Rash on chest

I've been eating low carb (20-30g per day) for 10 days now. I have a lot more energy, no cravings and my appetite has reduced. I feel great. But today I've noticed that I have a rash on my chest it's not itchy but little red bumps. Could it be related ? I don't want to stop this way of eating as I love it and also have around 2 stone of weight to lose to get a healthy BMI.

I'm low carbing and have a similar rash but on my back.

For the next few days, increase your carbs to, say, 50g per day and see if that makes any difference.

There is such a thing as keto rash, so upping the carbs is the best way to find out if this is what it is.

@User7853367 and @cubangal what you both have is most probably an inflammatory skin disease called Prurigo Pigmentosa which was quite rare until the popularity of keto diets. You can read a bit more here www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8903224/ or here www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9121908/

The carbs you need to reintroduce to reverse the inflammation don't have to be crisps, cookies, pizza, cake, chocolate, chips... Maintain the principles of removing the junk food, and eat healthy carbs such as oats, whole grains, beans, fruit and if you watch your calorie intake you will still be able to lose weight.
For the ketogenic diets induced Prurigo Pigmentosa, there is a resolution of lesions after diet cessation. Summer is here, you want to be able to bare some skin.

Thank you. I'll try that for a few days, see if it makes any difference.

@User7853367 and @cubangal any improvement a week later?

Coveredinivy · 01/06/2022 09:15

Yes, I've started to have porridge for breakfast and swapped my seed crackers for oatcakes and taking cows milk in my tea which seems to have done the trick. Carbs hovering around the 50-60g per day so I still feel good and not bloated.
