Evening all. Slightly earlier than usual as I'm taking to my bed with Man Flu. (The most serious of all colds, don't you know?!)

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness as ever

So this is our last two weeks. Still time, though, to get rid of a few pesky pounds. Perhaps time to consider going back to strict Bootcamp, if you've been following Bootcamp Light over the last few weeks?

Next week I'm going to try another recipe from Keto Kitchen, which looks lovely - Spicy Cottage Pie. I like a good shepherd's pie, and this one sounds very tasty and a bit different from what I usually make.

Thank you for all those you who delurked last week!

Here's to a good week for all of us Flowers

Yes, DH bought me some of that @SpellitwithaY - it's absolutely horrible to use! The first time I used it, it made me retch very violently, which hurt my throat even more. The second time I managed not to do that quite so much, but I couldn't manage to get it quite in the right place. Will have to gird my loins and try again.

Oh, and DS1 has just told me that he's tested positive too, this evening. Joy.

@BIWI open the bottle and pour a bit in the cap and gargle it rather than trying to spray it in right place.

BIWI · 03/03/2022 08:21

That's a good idea. Thanks @ditavonteesed

Hello!

The thread is very quiet and I'm missing the regulars. I wonder if everyone is busy or busy not low carbing?!?

I've not much news since yesterday except I woke up at 2am with a really sharp odd headache. It's mostly gone now but I felt a bit hungry and shaky too so probably need to look at topping up my magnesium and potassium as I'm drinking so much water (4l a day). It was a really weird headache, really painful.

Plans for today are:-
L - avo, mozz, basil & tomato possibly on Schneider Brot
T - chicken fajitas bowl with mashed avo, sour cream & homemade salsa

Wilkolampshade · 03/03/2022 09:28

@BIWI and all the covids, sorry to hear of poorliness. ❤️ My DH had the needle-scrapey throat too and resorted to sherry in the end. Did the trick. But yes, only mild in the sense of not hospitalised. Hope you all feel better soon.
I'm still going - managed to not get thrown during a visit by a difficult parent. To be fair he also managed a few days without shouting, stropping off or throwing things around so well done both of us.
Progress slow but consistent. 1 or 2 lbs a week. Of course, over a year 1 or 2 lbs a week would be 50+ off, so reckon its good enough.
Found recently by checking macros my fats were much, much lower than they should have been which would 100% explain my lack of energy. I woke after a night out at a local Turkish restaurant and felt the best I had done for weeks and genuinely think (don't laugh) it was in part the iron, but mainly the deliciously rendered fat on the lamb ribs I'd eaten. Lamb is normally way out of our budget, so it was a real treat.

Fleecy · 03/03/2022 09:45

@queenofcauliflower - so sorry to hear about your parent's funeral. How awful Sad

@Wilkolampshade snap on the lamb. I love it too but it's so expensive and with five of us, we tend to stick to chicken and pork. Lamb is so good!

@BIWI how are you today and how is your son?

EwanHoozami · 03/03/2022 09:56

BIWI & DS hope you feel better soon. Sore throats are so misery-inducing.

Sorry that I fell off the threads! Life got a bit lifey for a while. Still LCing although my loss has stalled. Possibly because I’m not eating enough proper meals.

I did discover a recipe for eggs fried in double cream, anyone tried it? It’s so good. A thin layer of cream gets trapped under the egg and goes all caramelly.

pinknsparkly · 03/03/2022 13:29

@queenofcauliflower - I'm still here too but definitely lurking more than contributing thanks to being a covid house plus general busyness of life! We've accepted an offer on our house this week so now it's all systems go and I'm struggling to keep up with work before you add in house moving stuff Grin

BIWI · 03/03/2022 14:09

Ah, that lifey life stuff. Terrible Wink

I'm feeling much better - still not quite there (and waiting for another test, but I think it's still going to be positive.

DS1 seems to be OK. DH now coughing his guts up but saying it's just a cold Hmm.

@BIWI

Oh, and DS1 has just told me that he's tested positive too, this evening. Joy.
This was bound to happen. No matter how hard we try, the Omicron variant (assuming that’s what it is) of C19 is like a wildfire.

Sorry the chloraseptic didn’t work for you. It saved me much pain back in the states.

Flowers to all the COVID sufferers. Sending virtual, low-carb, chicken soup to everyone. It heals the soul, don’t you know. Much like a nice cup of tea.

WATER WATER WATER!

Tonight I’m planning on pork belly, with advice from someone in this group whose name I’ve forgotten but promises perfect crackling. Yum.

Baystard · 03/03/2022 15:11

Still here, and still LC - not recovered my appetite fully after covid though so I'm not eating huge amounts, or feeling motivated/hungry enough to cook alot/very excitingly (or MN post-worthily).

B- black coffee
L- 4 x LC seed crackers (basically linseed, psyllium husk, sunflower seeds) with a very large slab of butter on each one (they're just a crunchy carrier for the butter). Appetite not good but salty butter seems to go down ok.

Dinner is sausages, the family will have chips but I'll just have a couple of poached eggs instead - plus cabbage.

Bought some clotted cream yesterday, I quite like heating a few blueberries in the microwave until they start to release juice and swirling them through double cream so will try it with clotted cream.

BIWI · 03/03/2022 15:20

I was prepared to give the Chloraseptic another go, following @ditavonteesed's suggestion, but thankfully no longer needed it today. And in fact haven't needed any other medication either.

Still stuck upstairs, seeing as most recent test was, indeed, positive (it was very hopeful of me that it wouldn't be!), but I have enjoyed having the time to just be 'forced' to do nothing, and lie in bed and read/Mumsnet, etc.

Glad you are on the mend BIWI and wish your family well soon too.

Lifey-life all full on here too.

The saddest thing: son's friend (ex-housemate at uni) took his own life. It does put everything else into perspective. Supporting/listening to son - of course. Can't actually do anything that really helps though.

BIWI · 03/03/2022 17:20

Oh no - Sad. And how hard for your son to cope with.

Baystard · 03/03/2022 21:09

@LostMyLastHatfulOfWords I'm so sorry Flowers

Fleecy · 03/03/2022 21:14

@LostMyLastHatfulOfWords that's awful Sad

That poor family and your poor son.

LostMyLastHatfulOfWords · 04/03/2022 00:08

Thankyou all. It is so sad.

Wilkolampshade · 04/03/2022 07:45

@LostMyLastHatfulOfWords so sorry and so, so sorry for your son.

BIWI · 04/03/2022 10:58

Morning all.

Still not right, but feeling much better. Although upstairs on my own, in my own bed - quite enjoying this part of isolation Wink.

Cooking has not happened this week, obviously, but so far what DH has cooked has been appropriately low carb. Roast sausages and roast veg one night, Spanish chicken with chorizo last night.

I haven't had much of an appetite, but fortunately I haven't lost my sense of smell/taste.

Cottage pie will have to wait till next week I think.

@LostMyLastHatfulOfWords so sorry to hear about your son's friend. Please make sure ds gets professional support if he needs it. My friend's son was in a similar situation and it really impacted on his mental health too.

venusandmars · 04/03/2022 16:20

I've managed well in the face of some eating out challenges this week. Lunch in seafood restaurant head good choices on Wednesday but the Vietnamese yesterday was more difficult, I think I only made a mistake with one item: MIANG KHAM
One Bite Thai Wrap
A must-try Thai classic. Crispy salmon,
ginger, red onion, peanuts, lime, chilli and
palm sugar, hand-wrapped in betel leaves.

I should have know when I read 'palm sugar'. But I have to say it was absoloutely amazing - all the taste of lemongrass, ginger etc...

And tonight we're going HERE Actually going there, not the food at home! Again, I'll avoid the breads and fries but possibly not the cold, crisp white to go with it all Blush

What I was pleased about was that with 2 lunches out I resisted the guilt pressure to come home and cook for dh (poor man wasn't invited to either event, although he is coming this evening). He had stuff from the freezer.

Today:
B - coffee and cream
L - eggs, bacon, mushroom
D - various assortments of oyster, tuna, mussels, octopus with bits of tomato, avocado, micro herbs, smoked mayo... plus sides of broccoli with chilli and garlic, and seaweed slaw (whatever that is!)

This week is not normal life. I'm getting all my socialising done because next week I'm on jury duty with a case which potentially lasts for 4 weeks. I WIILL be taking my own food, but I face days of boredom (there is always an inordinate amount of hanging around - with no phone / computer etc) surrounded by sandwiches, crisps, biscuits, fizzy drinks and fruit for the healthy bit

Have a good bootcamp weekend everyone, and hope the COVID sufferers are better soon.

BIWI · 04/03/2022 16:51

That restaurant looks AMAZING @venusandmars!

Don't envy you re jury service - although an opportunity to read some really good books! But I'm interested that you seem to know already what you're committed to - do they do it differently in Scotland?

OP posts:
venusandmars · 04/03/2022 17:03

It's a long and complicated story @BIWI

The system here is (I think) the same. But because of traumatic events in my past I have medical expemption from certain types of cases. Of the 'remaining' cases there are some which will be a few days and one which might be 20 days. I don't know any details but I'm guessing that's likely to be complicated fraud or something with multiple people accused, or something with covering many years.

So I'm expempted from certain types of case, but of the rest it's the normal ballot system. Fingers crossed I may simply be turning up and waiting and going home all week.

I've done jury duty before and even in the most clear cut of cases it feels like a big thing to know the kind of life that person might be sentenced to Sad
