Evening/morning all

So this is our last week. It's been a shorter Bootcamp than normal, but I hope it's worked for you. Something a bit of an experiment too! Let me know (by PM) if it's worked or not worked for you.

As ever, here's the link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

There are some seriously great results here!

We're now in the run up to Christmas, which I know can be very difficult if you're trying to maintain a low carb diet. But we will always have a chat thread going here, so please post if you need help or just want to vent.

And remember, of course, that we still have another week to wrest with the scales/the tape measure! Grin

Here's to a successful, final week Flowers

Hope you fell better today @Aderyn21. Tiredness can really mess with our resolve. Put yesterday behind you. You are doing so well.

Aderyn21 · 08/12/2021 09:11

Thank you Jolly, kind of you to say so. I hope you enjoy the gym - it's horrible being alone all day.
Have made an appt for next week to speak to the dr. I think I may be anaemic again and might also need my HRT tweaking.

Am also going food shopping this morning because there's literally nothing in the house despite the fact that I seem to live at the supermarket!

I hope everyone has a good 'last' week. I'm planning to stick with this until Christmas Eve - I feel much better for cutting out alcohol completely, although I am looking forward to the hotel chocolat velvet used espresso martini that I have stashed away for Christmas Eve!

Aderyn21 · 08/12/2021 09:13

That should say velvetised! I really don't like autocorrect - I must figure out how to turn it off. I'd doesn't like me swearing either Grin

BelladiMamma · 08/12/2021 10:38

Sorry I haven't been contributing much! I've had a mother push since I got over my illness and did my weigh in today in case I'm not around at the end of the week. Finally some results! I've still got more to lose but at least I know I can do it. I feel like I'm looking better already. Thanks for all the support and information @BIWI it's a huge job!

BIWI · 08/12/2021 11:33

Glad that pushing your mother has worked for you, @BelladiMamma Grin Wink

Sorry, not managing to keep up with the thread at the moment. Busy Christmas present buying (online). Kids end of term is Friday so trying to get as much done as possible before then.

Mainly having eggs for lunch, dinners so far this week have been wild salmon, guinea fowl and chicken, lots of celeriac, anchovy cream, cauliflower, roasted courgettes, mange tout, broccoli, spinach, brussel sprouts.

Thanks for heads up on new MM book, I have the fast 800 recipe book and love the food, I ignore the 800 calorie counting part but follow the principles if that makes sense.

kerkyra · 08/12/2021 16:23

This may be of use to someone, frozen roasted veg from Tesco. Should go well with my moussaka with feta crumbled on it.
I'm so loving all this food,so rich and tasty.

@BIWI 🤣🤣🤣

She's feisty my mum and she'd push me right back!!!

WildMaryBerriesWithBrandyCream · 08/12/2021 18:52

I'll be sticking to this a little longer too.

No scales but:

-At the start of Bootcamp my winter coat just stretched shut and zipped, but I was trussed inside and could not bend at all

-Today I wore the coat - with 2 additional layers of clothing on - and could actually move around inside it.

Question: does an evening spent nibbling on olives count as a FLGV Wink

Bit late now to have my planned supper of cheeseburger pie, asparagus and shoogled sprouts Grin

Dellabob123 · 09/12/2021 09:05

Hello. Been absent due to this horrible cold again, it seems to be coming in cycles.

Well done everyone getting this far, and those wanting to continue. I feel the same. I won’t change this woe now. Stuck with for nearly 6 months and there’s no going back.

I’m down another 1lb, which I’m very pleased about. Wasn’t expecting to keep losing in maintenance!

@Aderyn21 I hear you about the self sabotage, sometimes I’ve had a moment of madness and think I’ve reached where I am, this little something won’t do any harm. But it never tastes as good and I then feel terrible for attempting to undo all this hard work and good health. I’m more of a moderator so re set the next day and go and try on a beautiful dress that would t fit before.

@FusionChefGeoff I’m sorry you’re struggling with the ‘diet’ I think this time around for me, My thinking is more to do with health and well-being. This woe has really impacted them in a big way - positively, and I tell myself this is what my body and mind needs now. I deserve to be healthy. I hope you can find a way that works for you

Last nights dinner was delicious - pulled pork with a cauliflower pilaf- lots of flavours!

There's an interesting post on the Fast800 website about diet myths. Most, if not all, of which will apply to Bootcamp:

here

The one about regular weighing is also interesting:

Diet Myth 8. Don’t weigh yourself more than once a week

There is a widely held belief that you shouldn’t weigh yourself more than once a week because then you will become overly obsessed with your weight. Well, I weigh myself several times a week, sometimes more and I have science on my side In a recent study they followed 40 people attending a weight loss programme. Some weighed themselves daily, others weekly, monthly or hardly at all. What they found was that the more often people weighed themselves the more weight they lost.

Does this mean I really do have to ask for a new set of scales for Christmas?

I do love it when long-held truths are debunked!
(The scales fall from our eyes and we see how things are.)

When all the extra testing came into schools - there were some wise old teachers around pointing out that examining children even more often wouldn't improve their learning.

They said: 'Weighing the pig won't make it fatter'.

We parents did not like this image of our slim little treasures, but how wise and right they were :)

ditavonteesed · 09/12/2021 18:42

Hey, I disappeared as I've fell off the wagon so badly. Too many meals out and the nurses station looks like a Buffett at all times now. I have also been struggling mentally. However I have not gone above what I decided in my head was going to be my top weight. This week I seem to have managed to shake myself a bit and get some of my enthusiasm back. My plan is to maintain till January and then start from the beginning again.
I weigh daily and it really works for me as I'm accountable and if it's gone up I really do reign myself in as it makes me feel bad. I wouldn't like to imagine the damage I could do if I left it a week.
Going to preorder the book and also might get the renpho tape measure to go with the scales.

Aderyn21 · 09/12/2021 19:44

It's really hard right now dita. Everywhere you look is full of Christmas stuff! I have two chocolate logs giving me the eye in the fridge that I bought ready for Christmas!

Moanranger · 09/12/2021 22:45

It is such a hard time of year for many reasons & this year especially with the threat of further restrictions hanging over us now.
I now have a 9 day run with no temptations. We had a work Xmas tea today, then nothing until 18th. I plan to be conscientious in the interim. Today did not go quite to plan. I forgot to bring LC bread. It wouldn’t have worked anyway as the tea savouries were not all on bread. I ate the savoury stuff & I must say was delicious. The cafe is run by a locally renowned chef. The drink was tea, and I had one small macaron.
Dinner right back on it with fizzy water, salad, left over cheeseburger pie & herb tea. I will carry on til Xmas, with a small relaxation for a day or two.

FusionChefGeoff · 10/12/2021 07:26

@BelladiMamma a result is a result no matter how long / when in Bc it comes well done!

@TrueGrit54 your food sounds wonderful and inventive - do you have a favourite cook book / website for inspiration?

@Dellabob123 thank you. The why we eat too much book is good as it's reinforcing the health message too - and I know I feel so much better on this woe. I'm not eating off plan im just eating way too much of what is allowed in a self destructive way I think.

@BIWI interesting. I have a strange relationship with 'the numbers' so when I'm feeling fat I avoid weighing. But then I've just weighed as a result of that - don't hide away etc and I'm down from my return from Glasgow so now my maintenance goal doesn't feel so far away anymore which has strengthened my resolve. That said, the resolve is always pretty good until 5pm!

Right - am doing Xmas menus today and we've got a couple of days where I need a make ahead and freeze crowd pleaser - ideally allowing me to stay LC.

So far I've got lasagne but make mine with aubergine slices. Served with roasted veg and garlic bread for the carbies. This will do brilliantly when friends with small kids are coming to stay.

Then a Boxing Day dinner in case any family guests want to stay a bit longer - but can be our family dinner with leftovers if not.

Any ideas?

Jollyholibobs · 10/12/2021 09:23

Well I wrote a post yesterday but looks like my phone ate it.

@WildMaryBerriesWithBrandyCream What a great NSV with your coat you can celebrate your success and feel good every time you put your coat on.

@ditavonteesed good to see you back with renewed resolve. It’s tough at the moment. I’m trying to work on my mindset. Particularly I’m working on challenging the lies I tell myself. The it’s been a tough day and this “what ever unhealthy carby rubbish” will make me feel better. NO IT WONT.

Didn’t have a good day yesterday. Ate far too much Greek yoghurt and cheese at the 5pm low ebb. Gave myself a dressing down and closed the kitchen for the day. But slept badly and now feel a bit groggy today which is not great for maintaining good habits.

Alone all day again which I hate. DH has his office do this evening as well so I have found myself a social event locally to go to which should be fun and does not involve food.

The sun is out and the cat just got on my lap all purring and contented but I must start work as soon as I have drunk my coffee.

B black coffee
L salad, homemade Mayo, nice cheese. Moderate portion of Greek yoghurt
D veg omelette and shoogled sprouts I think.

Jollyholibobs · 10/12/2021 09:27

@FusionChefGeoff I made this fish pie a couple of times and I reckon it would fit the bill. It went down well with carbies in my family.

StuntNun · 10/12/2021 09:32

@FusionChefGeoff I think you and I have very similar battles when it comes to food. I used to binge eat and, while I don't any more since going low carb, I think there's an unconscious self-sabotaging drive in my psyche. What I've found that really helps is intermittent fasting. I don't think my issues are entirely mental or emotional; there are hormonal drivers of hunger and cravings. When I fast regularly I feel a lot more stable, perhaps because my insulin is better regulated. I also have to minimise dairy consumption because it makes me feel hungrier. I eat cheese and butter but limit milk, yogurt and cream. I also don't have any artificial sweeteners. And I don't eat much nuts or chocolate as I feel they're too calorific/carby for me to be able to deal with. BUT at the same time I don't feel that I have a restricted diet. I eat meat, fish, eggs, nice cheese, loads and loads of veggies and I eat as much as I want and make sure I'm getting all the vitamins and minerals I need. Even though I fast I'm never hungry!

Learningtofeminist · 10/12/2021 11:25

Hello everyone. Dropped off for a bit as I put on several lb the week of the Thanksgiving meal Blush but it all came off again the next week and then some Smile. Is anybody carrying on after this week? I started 2 weeks late and was planning to carry on as close to Christmas as I can (although there has been some cheating).

I can pack my maternity trousers away now and am under my pre-pregnancy weight Grin Still a few lb away from my pre-child-2-IVF weight, and about half a stone from my target, which is my weight before my first IVF. But I am completely confident that I will get there with another boot camp after Christmas - how often do you normally do them, @BIWI?

In case anyone is interested in boot camp and breastfeeding: I do think it affected my supply a bit for several weeks. But I figured my son can cope with one bottle of formula a day if that's what I need to get back into my clothes - and I would say my supply is back meeting his insatiable appetite now (he still has formula sometimes when I'm just sick of clusterfeeding!)

Learningtofeminist · 10/12/2021 11:29

Oh by the way: the Thanksgiving meal was totally worth it Grin thank you to those contributing recipes and ideas, it was really interesting to read about the different traditions. We had sprouts and cavolo nero from the allotment, cauliflower mash instead of potatoes, sausagemeat-and-chestnut stuffing and a fantastic no-added-sugar cranberry sauce. All made by my husband so I can't take any credit. I think by and large it was bootcamp-friendly, but I've found that was works for me is watching calories as well as carbs so it was probably the sheer volume of food that tipped me over (I think there was also some other cheating that week but can't remember what? Neighbour visiting and bringing me pastries, that could have been then. Honestly life is a bit of a blur at the moment...)
