Our last 2 weeks!

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Only two weeks to go!

I'm feeling that a lot of us are struggling. But it's all about how to integrate what we're learning about low carbing and how that fits with day to day eating/meals.

Above all, though, who could possibly say that the meals we're eating could not be the mainstay of family meals?!

Let's see this last fortnight as a challenge: what's your most enjoyable/family-friendly meal, that they would never realise was a 'diet' meal?!!!

Loving the car and garden chat. I work with new cars and am due a new company car which is exciting as currently I have been abusing the generous car allowance running a 2014 Skoda with 100,000+ on the clock.

My garden is overrun with weeds; like one of you earlier, we bought a house with a large immaculate garden and have let it go. We're getting a designer in shortly to help us turn it into something we can enjoy and critically maintain! I love peonies I had pale pinks in my bouquet. Fancying some of the alliums too. No tulips at all!

DH off doing a mammoth run with a friend tomorrow so pondering what to treat myself to for a solo dinner. He's rewarding himself with fish and chips when they finish their 40 miles!

BestIsWest · 03/06/2021 18:58

@Rayna37 we both drive Skodas. I’m a big fan. Very reliable.

prettybird · 03/06/2021 19:13

Welcome @gimmeavino - missed your post in amongst the garden and car chat Thanks

As BIWI says, just jump in, follow the Rules (in the one of the tabs of the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness) and ask if you have any questions. We're also great at support if you're struggling (we don't all manage to stay on the wagon all the time Hmm)

And remember the water Grin

Ours has been great, DH had it from a few months old and then I took it over when I switched from a company car to the allowance to supplement my maternity pay and have run it since. My Dad has just bought a second one too and he's really into his cars.

Thanks for directing me to the right thread BIWI Blush

My username says it all! New low carb username required

Tips for getting started please

cheeseisthebest · 03/06/2021 20:00

So much to catch up on, but 40 mile run?!!! What!! Shock

Chunkymonkey123 · 03/06/2021 20:05

I’ve been off the thread for two weeks so just checking back in.
I got to a weight I was ok with for now/summer so decided to try and maintain. This has not gone well, I’m 3 pounds up in 2 weeks. Trying to make good choices though.

Random789 · 03/06/2021 20:47

Hi sandwiches. Courtesy of Bootcamp, I have learnt about the low-carb ham and cheese sandwich, which is cheese between two slices of ham (or ham between two slices of cheese -- I forget which). So perhaps you don't need a namechange Grin. I can't really give tips, because I'm a newbie myself, except to say: enjoy the nice food this way of eating allows, enjoy being kind to yourself and not counting calories!

I has a NSV today. For years I've had some lovely cool, baggy cotton trousers that I've always really loved the idea of but never been able to wear, because they are meant to have a loose line but were tight around my thunder thighs. I wore them today without tightness and I just love them. Really very casual and comfy but not slobby. I could live in them all summer.

sandwiches77 · 03/06/2021 20:56

Thanks for the welcome Random789

Stokey · 04/06/2021 07:51

Loving the alium pictures @Random789 and @prettybird. Your gardens are looking lovely, I do love this time of year with all the greenery and wild flowers abounding. We've done no mow May & our cats are loving hiding in the long grass.

And congratulations on the NSV too Random, so great to get into a favourite pair of trousers. My mum sent me these bamboo trousers and they're fast becoming a favourite. Perfect for hanging around the house but not too tracksuit like.

MrsBertBibby · 04/06/2021 08:07

Gorgeous garden pic Random. I am sulking as I have to go into the office today so no garden breaks for me.

Not even to visit this beauty.

Big alium fan here, not least because they are so movable! I keep sticking them in new spots, they don't seem to care.

Welcome n00bs! New low for me today, and the suit trousers which were straining at the pockets four weeks back are now a comfy loose fit. Winning!

I love the flower photos. I have an large untamed garden. I am trying to make it lower maintenance. A lot is no mow all year round. I love the alliums. I had a few but they haven’t appeared this year. Weighing in today. 0.1kg less than last week. Maintenance going well. Still have to get that 7lb wiggle room off.

BestIsWest · 04/06/2021 09:08

What does NSV stand for? I can guess at the meaning - I think I have had one because the jeans that didn’t fit at the start of boot camp are now slightly loose.

prettybird · 04/06/2021 09:13

NSV = Non Scales Victory.

For example something fitting that didn't fit before, better skin, better sleep. Smile

BIWI · 04/06/2021 09:20

@sandwiches77

Best way to start is to just jump in! I assume you've read the rules and are properly understanding of them?

Key things are:

  • get rid of any high carb treats that might tempt you
  • plan your meals for the next week (at least)
  • if you're leaving home to go to work, make sure you know where you can buy low carb food for lunch (or take a packed lunch with you)
  • keep a diary of everything you've eaten and drunk so that you are fully accountable

... and finally, keep posting here! As you can see, we talk about anything and everything, not just low carbing Grin

Just got the quote through for our bathroom: £10,593.56, not including the tiles and flooring (but does include installing them) Shock That's the £1,000 contingency more than gone! Flooring is about 3m squared, so about £325 (retail price so may be less if we get supplier - who is supplying everything else - to supply them at trade prices). Still need to visit the tiling show room.

Plus I need to add £150 for the fancy mirror (backlit, Bluetooth, magnifying and shaver plug), which I'll be ordering from Amazon. And the paint. And the blind. And the shelves Shock

One of the things that's added to it is that he's having to replace the cast iron external soil stack and replace it with a new plastic 4" stack and run all that existing waste outlets into the new stack (including the kitchen and the attic bathroom).

To be fair, it is a quote and not an estimate.

Random789 · 04/06/2021 10:44

What a gorgeous iris, MrsbertBibby. I don't think I've seen that one before.

Here is a small iris that grows very readily n our garden. It was here when we arrived and I've had to divide it loads of times. I love it.

@prettybird I think construction prices have gone up a lot over the last year, I suspect Brexit and coronavirus combined to push up costs.

prettybird · 04/06/2021 11:23

@stokey - I realise and accept that Sad

We'll have a fabulous bathroom at the end, which is what is important. Smile

My dad's teeny-tiny en-suite shower room cost him £8,000 last year - although that also included the ripping out that dh is doing.

Oneborneverydecade · 04/06/2021 11:48

Just checking in from W Sussex. We've come to our favourite open air museum. It's absolutely tipping it down so we haven't yet left the car. Have eaten a delicious chicken mayo salad though so all is not lost.
I am jealous of all the beautiful gardens. Ours is a new build so we have a small square of largely poor grass.
Maintenance had lead to a 3lb gain but I've managed to get it back off this week. How're you getting on @ouchmyfeet ?

MrsKoala · 04/06/2021 12:40

Bathrooms are eye watering prices @prettybird our 3m by 2m one cost close to £12k (we did need scaffolding 3 floors up to move the soil pipes but still) Shock . We got a quote for my daughters tiny en suite shower room about 80cm by 180cm for over £7k not including the tiles and sink and loo. Shock Shock

FusionChefGeoff · 04/06/2021 13:01

@BSky I can report huge success with the Keto Buns recipe I linked above. Very simple to make and are very nice!!!

I paid a squillion pounds for proper almond flour and to be honest it wasn't any finer than the ground almonds I get from Aldi.

Not eggy / cheesy and very much bread like (if a bit soggy in the middle but that could be solved by longer in the oven). Look like alien buns but who cares Smile

prettybird · 04/06/2021 13:01

Shock @MrsKoala

It's just as well I hadn't put the remainder of my ICI pension lump sum into an ISA yet Wink. Will wait until this is all finished and have bought all the accessories to finish it off Smile

Oneborneverydecade · 04/06/2021 13:20

We've ventured out of the car and watched some of the filming of The Repair Shop

Random789 · 04/06/2021 13:42

£12k was what we spent on our bathroom last year prettybird, if that's any consolation. I think I could have chiselled it down a little bit by being much more hands-on in the research and choise of various appliances and materials, but i figured that my sanity had some monetary value so I preserved it at the cost of maybe a £1000 or so.
