Week 8 - Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp

Our last 2 weeks!

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Only two weeks to go!

I'm feeling that a lot of us are struggling. But it's all about how to integrate what we're learning about low carbing and how that fits with day to day eating/meals.

Above all, though, who could possibly say that the meals we're eating could not be the mainstay of family meals?!

Let's see this last fortnight as a challenge: what's your most enjoyable/family-friendly meal, that they would never realise was a 'diet' meal?!!!

To all those whose husbands drop weight so easily...

BSky · 01/06/2021 16:52

@MrsKoala - sorry you’re feeling disheartened after just a couple of planned discretions. Try drinking lots of water & few days of lots of eggs & strict lchf & hopefully scales will start dropping again. Cooking situation sounds a faff. KOKO the 19th is still in your gift.

@BestIsWest - pots look great.

@Rayna37 - I blub at marathons too & I don’t know anyone personally who runs them! 🤷‍♀️ Agree with the restrictions lifting that it adds another layer of emotion.

Great loss @Moonswimmer - I also have similar consequences to you after eating carbs. It’s not great but does encourage me to get back on track.

BestIsWest · 01/06/2021 16:53

@Ifeelmuchlessfat that is SO true! Why?

BSky · 01/06/2021 16:53

@Ifeelmuchlessfat - 😂 brilliant so true

BIWI · 01/06/2021 17:29

@MrsKoala you know that 6lbs won't be fat! Going off piste does have consequences, and it's important that you fully recognise and accept that - otherwise you'll never be able to successfully maintain. If most of the time you're low carbing, then you'll be maintaining your weight within a range of weights.

OP posts:
MrsKoala · 01/06/2021 17:58

I understand that BIWI. I just want my range of weights to be 11st 7-12st Grin Ive found this BC one of the hardest I've done and I just don't know why. I've eaten on plan, better even than some others (much less cheese). I don't know - maybe its age catching up on me.

I'm sulking a bit too as I've done previous months accounts and I've spent over £1k on food eating in and over £1k on food eating out. Shock Shock Shock So it feels more pointless when i'm exactly where I started.

I really want to be 11st 10 or under for the 19th (I'm fixating on this date disproportionately I know and I know i'm being silly about it and in reality it won't make any difference what I look like but it seems like the only thing I can control about it as it will be stressful).

MrsKoala · 01/06/2021 18:06

I meant to say upthread re the granola recipe that I like this one I just omit the sweetener and tweak the nuts and seeds - mainly because im not crazy about desiccated coconut and I find the egg white and flax make it more crunchy.

Oneborneverydecade · 01/06/2021 18:59

In the words of every aibu ever @MrsKoala you haven't got a woe problem, you've got a DH problem Wink
£500 a week on food is impressive. We spend a lot less but I know that if we ate out a few nights a week that could easily cost £300.
Have you mentioned what's happening on the 19th? Apologies if so

MrsKoala · 01/06/2021 19:17

@Oneborneverydecade I think that's been well and truly established on MN for some time Grin He has sensory issues and rigidity issues and just plain selfish issues most of the time - but it is what it is and he won't change. The food at home is all the meat, fish and dairy (cream and butter really add up!) mainly. The eating out is a couple of special meals with my parents/sister which were spendy as we pay, and then some when I can't face cooking anymore and I just want a break. Usually we'd go to Wetherspoons or somewhere cheap but because they have had a restricted menu round here it's not been compatible to this woe. It means more expensive restaurants have been chosen and then 5 of us eating really adds up.

So this month my challenge to myself is spend half of that (at the most) all in.

Sorry - no I didn't mention the 19th as it's silly Blush Its just my best friend who died 18 months ago birthday and his family are doing a thing. There are some people who were particularly vile to me at the funeral going and my exH (who is lovely) and my ex friends who are lovely to my face (one of whom is with my exH). A few guys I previously dated, their wives who glare at me and the wife of my friend who I have a tricky relationship with (she uninvited me from their wedding). So all in all I need my armour on and to feel able to face it all.

prettybird · 01/06/2021 19:19

That looks a good granola @MrsKoala - I'll give it a go. It looks a bit like the one I make ds, although his includes rolled oats and maple syrup Grin ....and cinnamon because I love cinnamon Wink

The big news chez Prettybird is that I bought a new(ish) car today. The car we got rid of was an unloved 13 year old Vauxhall Vectra and we now have a 3 year old Mazda3 Smile The car before the Vectra was a Mazda6 which we loved but unfortunately its arse was falling out and we wanted needed to put a tow bar on to be able to put on a bike rack on for ds' cycling competitions, so 7 years ago we got the Vectra.

ElasticFirecracker · 01/06/2021 21:50

@StuntNun

Does anyone have a good recipe for homemade burgers? I made some yesterday for a barbecue and they were okay but a bit bland. I use beef mince, an onion chopped finely, an egg, salt, pepper, oregano and cayenne. Maybe I only need to increase the amount of seasoning as I didn't measure anything, just threw stuff in.
You've reminded me that we often used to make burgers in the summer and this is the recipe we used.

I think the ingredients are OK.

I don't know if this would be helpful for you - the only seasoning they have is plenty of salt and pepper.

I just remember them as being really delicious and certainly not in any way bland.

I'll be making them again now I've remembered.

What is EVO? I've also seen EV and don't know what that is either. Is there a glossary?

ElasticFirecracker · 01/06/2021 22:00

@BestIsWest pots look fab. if they are to stay outside in all weathers, you may want to give them a coat of marine varnish (I think that's what it's called).

prettybird · 01/06/2021 22:05

@ElasticFirecracker

What is EVO? I've also seen EV and don't know what that is either. Is there a glossary?
EVO/EVOO/EV are all abbreviations of Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Smile
ElasticFirecracker · 01/06/2021 22:10

Food:

B: Small fathead pizza dough flatbread toasted with butter and rocket.

L: 2 slices cheese, I slice Parma ham with cream cheese & rocket.

D: chicken & courgettes cooked on stripy grill. Broccoli with butter.

Plenty water.

ElasticFirecracker · 01/06/2021 22:12

Thank you for that @prettybird

Of course there isn't! It would ruin the mystery Wink

EVO is extra virgin olive oil.

FusionChefGeoff · 01/06/2021 22:37

Comedy of errors for me tonight - kids are with GPs so after lots of agonising over menus DP and I set out for a 45 min walk to the next village and their pub for dinner.

We got lost and were late which has messed up my 18:6 fasting.

Then the very doable fish dish was off which only left very limited choices. I wasn't that hungry so didn't fancy a £20 steak so chose a starter size bresaola rocket blue cheese salad with PEAR what an idiot - just wasn't looking for fruit in ingredients list I suppose. Also tapas portion of pork belly that was drowned in a Korean bbq sauce that was probably full of bloody sugar. But I ate some as I was so disappointed in the rest of the meal and quite hungry as it took for ever to arrive.

So yeah - don't know what to learn from that - don't let DH navigate!! And if there's only 1 option maybe phone ahead?!

But the amazing thing was that I would normally have had a massive sulky strop but was able to (mostly) brush it off and enjoy the occasion if not the food.

Also the Simple app and new commitment to fasting means I didn't come home and 'self pity eat' all the cheese in the house!

L: tuna Mayo, egg Mayo, cold sausage with salad, green beans, olives, avocado
D: disastrous salad and 3/4 bits of bbq pork belly

Also gutted as 10 out of 12 cheese muffins ended up int he cake tin instead of the freezer and went mouldy Sad

prettybird · 01/06/2021 22:42

MrsKoala - I hadn't seen your reply which was a cross-post just before my post. That (the 19th) sounds tough - but good for you for wanting to hold your head up high and say " Fuck them " Grin

You've got this ThanksThanksThanks

Oneborneverydecade · 01/06/2021 23:16

Absolutely rooting for you @MrsKoala that sounds like a great motivator. Sorry to hear about your friend

ditavonteesed · 02/06/2021 07:41

@MrsKoala sorry about your friend and that sounds like a horrific night for you, are you sure you even want to go? Not going is another way of holding your head up. If you do go you can hold your head up high no matter what the scales say, those people are not worth any of your thoughts.

I think this boot camp has been hard because everybody is celebrating everything and celebrating usually involve food.
@prettybird what colour?
@BestIsWest the pots look ace, I may try that some time. I love painting things.
@FusionChefGeoff glad the fasting app is helping, I bet the walking helped I seem to be obsessed with walking everywhere at the minute, really helps me enjoy things more.
I am struggling with anxiety this week but determined to fight it.

prettybird · 02/06/2021 08:20

New car is white. It's not the colour we would've chosen ideally (that would've been the current Mazda Red which is gorgeous Wink) but it's what was available at a good price and is a perfectly acceptable colour, so I'm not complaining Smile

Going to have to move it further down the drive, closer to our neighbours' car, so that it's not directly under the hazel tree which is currently bountifully Hmm shedding catkins.

Hello all, I am reading but having a really manic few weeks and also finding that as real life resumes, demands on time resumes!

So disappointed- hit 11 stone last Thursday, then 11st2.8 on weigh in day, then was really being very strict to get it off again (loads of water, strict BC) and it’s gone up to 11st4.8 today!

Like a pp I have various events that I would have loved to be slimmer for, and one of them is today! So depressing.

Very committed though, and KOKO.

Here’s a photo of our very reluctant peonies. Everything so late here due to the weather.

prettybird · 02/06/2021 08:58

I'm sure you'll look fab for the event @Thinnerlikeachickendinner Thanks

Remember that you're often losing inches even the scales aren't shifting or moving upwards as long Wink if you've stayed on track with this WoE Smile

And also remember the water Grin
