We've reached the end of the Low Carb Bootcamp so how did you do overall? Add your weigh-in to the Spreadsheet and let us know your plans. Would you like to keep losing weight over the coming week and months? Are you thinking about giving weight maintenance a go? Have you considered introducing intermittent fasting? This thread will continue until the next Bootcamp starts so there will be plenty of support for you.

Oh. Yeah. The Point, sorry.

The Point, was that these things are clearly not 'essential' food groups or I would be dead, or ill, instead of the healthiest I've been in my life.

prettybird · 21/05/2020 15:37

Talking about a non-plant based diet Wink: I've just bought the ingredients to make boerewors (this weekend is #gbbraaioff to go along with #specactularsouthafrica to promote SA wines, so we've been doing some promotion for our wee wine business which specialises in South African wines).

Normally, I'd get my dad to make them for me (he was after all initially a South African farmer even if he then became a doctor and boerwors means "farmer's sausage") but because of social distancing, I extracted the family recipe from him.

I've never made sausages before, so wish me luck! Shock

They're good HFLC sausages, 100% meat plus some spices. Dad says the most difficult thing is getting enough/the right fat for them as modern meat is too lean.

StuntNun · 21/05/2020 17:37

Prettybird what combination of meats will you use for the Boerewors? Lidl sell a 25% fat beef mince which is the highest fat content I've seen. We make pork sausages from a combination of pork belly and pork shoulder to get a good fat content. My local greengrocer is owned by a South African couple so we can buy Boerewors from them. They're amazing on the barbecue, aren't they?

Can't remember if I've shared this before. Slow roast pork belly. Amazing!

www.gordonramsay.com/gr/recipes/slow-roasted-pork-belly/

Previously my pork belly was tough meat but decent cracklings Or tender meat and floppy cracklings. This recipe is both tender AND good crackling. Although I think I've broken some kind of BC rule with the volume I've consumed!!

prettybird · 21/05/2020 19:09

Stuntnun - it's 2kg of beef, 750g of pork belly(ish)/green bacon and 200g pork fat. The been they gave me was really fatty but I sent my dad a picture of it and he said it's fine - will make them nice and moist. The 2nd picture is of everything diced and the family secret Wink special blend of spices mixed through it.

Am about to go and mix the brown malt vinegar into it and then attempt mincing/stuffing Shock

Wish me luck Confused

Mmmmm... I think you should post me a sausage, pretty

BIWI · 21/05/2020 20:42
Shock

@Athelstane!

BrassicaBabe · 21/05/2020 21:11

Ooh, pics of after please pretty too. Raw and cooked. Sound fab. (I've made standard pork sausages before. I can even twist them into a pretty butchers string! )

Anyone catch themselves considering something remotely healthy or sensible then thinking "fuck if, it can wait til BC next week"? BlushGrin

Serious about posting a sausage, those sound fabulous. Expect Royal Mail might object though.

Me, Babe. I'm going to have such a shock come Monday.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 21/05/2020 21:44

Part of my shifting back to the right mindset involved being spotted mowing the lawn all sweaty and bulging over the top of my trousers weighing and measuring for the first time in a while.

Let's just say I have a way to go, but feeling a bit more determined having seen those numbers. I HAVE to get some weight off my hips if I'm going to wear my nice clothes ever again.

BIWI · 21/05/2020 22:12

I took a photo of myself yesterday, in my running gear. I swear to God it really didn't look that bad in the mirror, but when I looked at the actual photo Shock

venusandmars · 21/05/2020 22:38

@prettybird I must be close enough to drive and pick up a sausage or two...

BIWI · 21/05/2020 23:02

I came across this just now Big Mac 'salad'

I used to love a Big Mac back in the day so I'm just leaving this here until after the next week or so!

BIWI · 21/05/2020 23:04

When I worked in advertising, McDonalds was relatively new in the UK. One of my colleagues and I used to regularly go to the store on Haymarket for breakfast as well as lunch. How I'm not the size of a blimp I have no idea.

BrassicaBabe · 22/05/2020 18:44

Mammoth test of will this evening!

We have a wood fired pizza oven. It's been wildly neglected since I turned LC in sept '17. Well today I've made pizza dough and I've fired up the oven!! I also have Doritos and hummus for the kids.

My plan is to have left over belly pork from yesterday.

So far I've had 3 Doritos. Just 3 individual crisps. Not 3 handfuls.

Wish me luck!!

BrassicaBabe · 22/05/2020 20:36

Failed!! Didn't eat my body weight in pizza, but did eat several slices. Home made pizza fresh from wood oven is amazing! Feels v heavy in my tummy.

prettybird · 22/05/2020 22:13

My boerewors. Still struggling to mince and fill the sausage skins but getting there gradually. Still have about a third of the mix to mince: some completed sausages already in the freezer and some in the fridge. Not managed to make a proper coil yet before the sausage skin splits but they definitely taste like real boerewors Grin

Went really well with the South African wine (Lyra Vega from Orange River Cellars if anyone is interested WinkWine) that we had as part of the #SpectacularSouthAfrica event.

Some amazing dinners tonight! 😄
My lovely dog was a very naughty animal this evening and legged it into a neighbours garden..! The son of said neighbour was very sweet at helping to get her back, but the whole thing took ages and I was DYING for a wine and a bit of ‘Life on Mars’. Then the mother in law rang (who is wonderful but prefers talking to me than DP) and that took forever. So mental evening!! I have cycled 20k this week! Gearing up for next week 🤣

BrassicaBabe · 23/05/2020 07:52

They look amazing pretty.

2lbs of pizza water weight on today. Lots of water today. Would like to kick those 2lb before Ultra BC.

Quite looking forward to starting on Monday. I've had an "odd" month when it comes to exercise. In fact, exercise in lockdown has been odd. I'm very much all or nothing. I did lots in March. May has been very little. So, I'm looking forward to giving myself an exercise kick in line with BC from Monday

ShagMeRiggins · 23/05/2020 08:20

Yesterday was all about the telly.

Latest episode of Killing Eve, all of the Twenty Twelve episodes, and evening film of What Happened to Monday followed by Spotlight into the wee hours of the morning.

Clearly I wanted to do nothing but schlump yesterday. Today will have to be a work catch up day and I suppose the house might need a bit of attention.

Steak salad and onions for lunch. G&T for dinner. Blush

BIWI · 23/05/2020 09:03

Yes, my exercise has been all up the spout @BrassicaBabe, since I could no longer go to the gym. My skipping didn't last long as my knees didn't like it Sad so I've reverted to running again. Which I really don't like! Anyway, yesterday I completed week 2 of the C25K. I find it hard to imagine that I was once able to run for 30 minutes without stopping!

I noticed yesterday when walking past that the gym I go to (with my PT - a private gym) was open, and when I peeked in, the owner was in there moving stuff around. I think he must be preparing for social distancing, but it's a small place (a shop unit in a local parade) and if there were more than 4 people in there 2 PTs/2 clients) it would be too busy and maintaining the 2m between everyone would be impossible.

And my PT is very reluctant to go back yet, so I suspect training will be off the menu for some time. On the plus side though, it's saving me a fortune! Grin

AthelstaneTheUnready · 23/05/2020 09:19

Hmm, exercise. I had a long walk round the supermarket - stocked up on loads of half price duck, steak, mince and mackerel, so sorted for first couple of BC weeks.

Also counting calories spent in temper when lawnmower finally collapsed, and calories spent carrying a really awkwardly shaped 30kg replacement. Also a full house hoover done properly (including ceilings, corners etc). I know I should do something more energetic, but it's gales and downpours here all day, so I shan't.

Supposing someone had accidentally hoovered up a very large spider - in self-defence supposing it was lunging at them - how long do you reckon it would live in the hoover bag? Before it was safe to open, or before it crawled out and came looking for revenge?

AthelstaneTheUnready · 23/05/2020 09:27

Ooooh, that BC recipe doc is great, BIWI - I'm growing far too much celery this year, so that will be a start!

BrassicaBabe · 23/05/2020 09:59

Recipe doc? Did I miss that one? I've saved the Big Mac Salad one though. The recipe is Americanised. What kind of mustard do you think it is BIWI

Anyone got any meal plans for 1k calories for next week?

Sooo windy here again today. Last night the wind caused the pizza oven to misbehave. I've singed one eyebrow. That'll teach me!!

BrassicaBabe · 23/05/2020 10:00

Athel. Sorry, the hoover needs a petrol bomb!
