Jan '20 - Week 2 Low Carb Bootcamp - How did you do?

We've already seen some fab results, especially from those who started early. We do expect a big variation in the first weigh in. Some of you will have lost several pounds, some a more modest loss. Others won't have lost anything yet either because some healing is needed before weight loss begins in earnest, or because they didn't quite manage to stick to the rules during the first week.

So please check in with us to reflect on how your first week has gone. Try not to compare yourself to others because weight loss is a very individual thing. If you have any concerns about your progress then please do ask. We have had thousands of people through Bootcamp so make use of that collective experience.

Add your weight to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness or tag the rather wonderful ShagMeRiggins with your weigh-in if you can't access the spreadsheet yourself. If you're only just starting then please tag the very lovely AthelstaneTheUnready to be added to the spreadsheet. And to anybody that suspected they couldn't lose weight while eating lots of lovely food, and without feeling hungry... I hope you enjoyed being proved wrong!

For when I yearn for a slice of toast with poached eggs, would a broghie with butter be acceptable?

Egg in a cup with bacon again today.
Steak and salad with home made mayo for lunch.
Heinz chicken for tea with more cream for tea (needed comfort food and HCS is mine)

VeryLittleOwl · 21/01/2020 20:20

Wow, some amazing week one results ,well done everyone!

Unfortunately I am not one of them - turns out that trying to stick to my usual boot camp lunch of a chicken salad when I'm spending significant amounts of time stomping around in the mud in a 55mph breeze results in diving headlong into comfort carbs. Amazing I haven't gained anything, but neither have I lost an ounce.

So back on it, but this time trying soups for lunch instead, which seems to be working better.

Metoopleasetolose · 21/01/2020 20:23

Thanks @Stuntnun I think I will try and cut out nuts/seeds and cream cheese to try and maximise my calories on filling protein. I'm a creature of habits and I'm just looking for something that works and I can stick to for breakfast. Before I would have a bowl of musli for breakfast and now I just find the uncertainty of what I will have for breakfast quite unsettling.

MrsBertBibby · 21/01/2020 20:24

MsAwesome Covent Garden wild mushroom soup is very low carb and delicious!. I must get some in at work, there are only so many scrambled eggs I can bear!

StuntNun · 21/01/2020 20:31

Metooplease once we're into Bootcamp Light you could try a low carb granola recipe for breakfasts.

MsAwesome for those nights we get in unexpectedly too late to cook we'd normally just have eggs (I try to keep LOTS in) so probably just an omelette with whatever I can scavenge, usually cheese and mushrooms or courgette. Or if you do a meal plan at the start of the week and know which days you'll be short of time, make sure you've got something there/defrosted which is quick to assemble.

MeTooPlease my default breakfast is 2 eggs scrambled with butter. I might do other things some days but that's my basic-no time to think-no time to faff-breakfast.

Rayna37 · 21/01/2020 20:58

Food today:
B: scrambled eggs
Snack of Brie portion and a babybel
L: chicken Caesar salad as yesterday, with Greek yogurt afterwards
D: bolognese on courgette ribbons with Parmesan

Exitstrategist · 21/01/2020 21:27

I second that the cauliflower and kale soup is utterly delicious! Get it in Sainsbury’s!

Watched the Magic Pill on Netflix and it made me so mad. This low fat, sugar laden rubbish we have been putting into our bodies for the past few decades has made us so ill, develop horrific diseases, altered our mood and behaviour and all the time the MNCs are getting wealthier and try to silence /ridicule and even prosecute people who speak up about a HFLC diet. What struck me most was when they said we are the only species (apart from those that are unfortunate enough to be fed by us) who can no longer regulate our weight. We are so out of touch with food and where it comes from .

BlueLilyLilyBlue · 21/01/2020 22:41

I'm a little late but congrats to all who have lost or had NSV Flowers

Down from 11 stone 7 to 11st 4, which is good as I had a complete stall the previous two weeks.

B - a babybel
L - mushroom and onion omelette with salady bits
D - chicken with pesto and cambazola cheese, more salady bits and some broccoli
(Because I've been on bootcamp since August I also had 2 squares of 90% lindt chocolate which hasn't affected my weight loss and I find very satisfying as I'm a big chocolate lover but stick to the rules initially bootcampers!! It's only recently when I've been fat adapted and don't crave carbs at all that I introduced it.)

venusandmars · 21/01/2020 22:57

I so agree with the non-real food. Today in All Bar One I had skinny dirty burger, but because its veganuary they had a load of vegan options too. However most of them were 'meat-like' products, with 'gouda-like vegan cheese'. Why? Why not just have a bean burger (which I would actually like). Eat it with some onion marmalade. Or just have pasta with tomato, olive and chilli sauce. Just eat normal food! (I know the suggestions are not low carb / boot-camp friendly, but it's the principle. Either eat meant or don't eat meat. Eat bread or don't eat bread. Eat eggs or don't . But don't add a thousand manufactured ingredients to produce a fake egg.

MrsBertBibby · 21/01/2020 23:16

Wagamama advertise a vegan egg. The mind boggles.

1stMrsF · 21/01/2020 23:52

Just checking in with food
B creamy coffee (started the day with lemon hot water too which was a BC staple for me last time, Nice and gets the water intake started)
L BBQ chicken & salad
D Thai basil pork with roasted broccoli and stir fry pak choi (coconut oil but still a bit low fat, what would you add to this type of meal to increase fat?)
Then went to the cinema and did not eat popcorn or chocolate or drink wine. Win! I saw Little Women, it was wonderful Smile

1stMrsF · 21/01/2020 23:54

Ooh forgot to say lunch also included the soup recommended by PP above. It was lovely!

Hagbeth · 22/01/2020 05:38

Today I’m giving up cream. I didn’t work, I’m a creamohic, I got to see it for what it is Grin Got a bit left in one pot but I’m not buying anymore.
I don’t have a sweet tooth, never had, but a savoury tooth. Sometime that makes it hard to do low carb and I figured out this is probably my greatest bug bear. I feel better now that I got this off my chest. I kind of new this was my problem all along but didn’t want to admit it. But now that I have it feels better.

NoOneCaresInRealLife · 22/01/2020 06:16

Stuntnun, definitely reduction in appetite and I feel better in myself. Had a colleague comment on how nice my lunch looked - that never happened before when I was having rice crackers cottage cheese!!

Metoopleasetolose · 22/01/2020 06:20

Thanks @Rayna37 will stick with egg too for now. @1stMrsF what soup is it if you don't mind me asking?

1stMrsF · 22/01/2020 06:53

@Metoopleasetolose Yorkshire Provender Cauliflower Cheese and Kale

ilovecherries · 22/01/2020 06:56

The whole low carb versions of food - bread, cakes etc is interesting. I’ve been LC for 3 years now, and I still find them triggering. Whether that’s a psychological or physiological response, I’m not sure. Certainly though they trigger ‘diet thinking’ in me. They set off cravings, but they also start thinking like ‘just one more want hurt, I’ll cut back later’ and they constantly call to me. I don’t even like the baking sections in LC cookbooks. Give me a dozen things to do with a chicken leg, and I’m happy!

TheClitterati · 22/01/2020 07:01

Thanksfor @Hagbeth - sorry about the cream loss.

TheClitterati · 22/01/2020 07:07

So I read the ingredients list on the herbal teas I've been drinking lots of lately, and I have a hidden liquorice issue. Yes a bunch of my pukka teas which don't Taste liquorice flavoured at all have liquorice and in the tiny tiny print on the back I'm advised not to drink more than 4 cups a day. I'm guessing this is because of the hidden liquorice. So as much as I love those teas I have to moderate drinking them and I will look for some licorice free teas. Who would have thought?

Having said that I'm finding it so easy to drink 3 L of herbal tea through my working day it's really really helping keep the water intake up. By the time I've had a drink of water either side of this we done with the water intake.

SayrraT · 22/01/2020 07:21

I feel like I need to try some herbal tea, I've never been a fan but some of these sound very nice.

On the 'fake' low Carb foods I'm a bit on the fence. I don't mind doing an occasional LC pancake (as evidenced yesterday) and I have made a low carb cake (from the lc gourmet book). Mostly I prefer to eat real foods though. I certainly never plan to have lc bread or pasta. I definitely prefer my lettuce wraps and courgetti.

Weighed in this morning and I'm another 2 lbs down (and I've got my period). That brings me into the next stone category down. I mean it is the 16s but still I'm Grin

MrsBertBibby · 22/01/2020 07:27

Somewhat startling weigh this morning : 6 pounds gone overnight. That's a stone in a week and a day.

I await to see whether it is still gone in a few days!

MrsBertBibby · 22/01/2020 07:38

So that has smashed this week's short term goal (into the 12 stones) and the next one (a whole stone lost.)

Goodness me.

SayrraT · 22/01/2020 07:44

Well done MrsBertBibby GrinFlowers

You must feel fantastic!
