Under active thyroid and low carbs??

I have under active thyroid which I take 100 mg levothyroxine for. ( I also take apple cider vinegar)
I'm looking at doing the low carb bootcamp as need to lose some weight. Is this advisable? How will it affect thyroid?

Since this is a medical issue you probably won't be able to get much advice on here. A low carb diet can affect your thyroid hormone levels so it may not be advisable to go very low carb such as strict Bootcamp or Atkins induction levels. On the other hand, since you are already taking medication it might not make much difference. I have seen it suggested to have periodic carb refeeds to minimise the effect on thyroid levels but as far as I know there haven't been studies to test the effectiveness of this method. I would discuss it with your GP. They might be willing to test your thyroid levels more frequently while you're changing your diet. Bear in mind that any effects on thyroid levels may show up in the long-term, i.e. six months or more down the line.

I have no idea of the science behind this and have no medical training but I take the same amount of thyroxine as you and low carb is the only diet I’ve ever been able to lose weight on. Last summer I stuck to it resolutely and looked and felt better than I have in years so I highly recommend it from personal experience.

Thyroid needs carbs to convert T4 into T3 so not recommended long term. I'm hypo and have hashimotos so I need high carbs to function optimally. Check out Stop the Tyroid Madness online for loads of information.

I’ve got an underactive thyroid and am on thyroxine for it. I do find I lose weight quicker doing low carb but I find it so hard to stick to!

I would say that start it, but be prepared to stop it. It's one thing to get "keto flu" with headaches and a bit tired, it's another thing to feel unwell. The first time I did keto it was great for 10 days then I started getting EXHSUSTED.

The second time I ended up unable to walk properly from exhaustion..in a few days!

Give it a shot because maybe it'll work for you, but pay close attention to how you feel. There's no point being thin and in bed from exhaustion!
