Morning all! Very sorry for the late start. I set my alarm. Woke up. Wondered why I'd set my alarm and went straight back to sleep Blush

Anyhoo.

Here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

For those of us who are new, the spreadsheet is not only where you record your weight (if you want to - it's not obligatory), it's also where you'll find lots of other useful information. Look at the tabs at the bottom for the rules, a veg counter (that will work out your carb count for you if you're using it for a recipe), and lots of other resources to help you learn more about low carbing.

I'll be back to post more stuff later this morning, but for now just wanted to get the link out there.

If you're using your phone to access the thread, you will need to download the Google docs app.

I’d like to join in. I will go and read all about it and try and understanding everything and then jump in! I’ve been eating low carb for a month but I think I could definitely do better!

northernknickers · 15/10/2019 06:13

Can anyone help with a technical issue please? I have google sheets and google drive on my phone, but when I click on the link, it won't open in the app. It opens on my phone...then asks if I want to open in the app...I click to do so and all that happens is the OLD spreadsheet opens. I've tried to remove that one but it isn't shifting! Grrr 😆

PrimaDonna123 · 15/10/2019 06:42

Sorry Northern I’m using it on my phone and it’s working ok. Are you on an iPhone or Android? Hopefully someone will be able to help.

Today’s plan:

B: Eggs, butter, cream
L: Prawn salad, avocado, hm mayo
D: Sausages, swede mash, kale, lots of butter

northernknickers · 15/10/2019 06:45

@PrimaDonna123 iPhone. The new spreadsheet has always just downloaded in the past 🤦‍♀️

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 15/10/2019 06:55

I am also on an iPhone and having exactly the same problem as northernknickers.

8Track · 15/10/2019 07:14

Is there maybe a bookmark you have for the old spreadsheet that needs deleting?
(I actually couldn't make it work on my phone so used my work computer -and hoped IT don't clock my weight confession!- )

Lovely nights sleep, had a camomile tea in bed.

Today's plan:
B - leftover chicken thigh, egg and avocado. Have chucked it all in a pot with some butter snd going to microwave it at work. Experimental!
L - cauli cheese soup, with some of those m and s crackling straws if I fancy a crunch.
D - parmesan 'battered' chicken and celeriac chips, spinach mountain.

Emergency babybel in my handbag!!

Keep going Campers - we can do this!

northernknickers · 15/10/2019 07:17

Phew! Glad it's not just me then😂

Rshard · 15/10/2019 07:24

20 boot camps - wow stuntnun!

I was at a meeting the other week with lunch emma and was presently surprised to find meats and cheeses on offer as well as the traditional sandwiches of course. It was a good surprise.

Not sure about excel issues, I always update the sof on my computer as my phone never wants to load it.

Cauliflower cheese soup sounds yummy 8track. Is the recipe on the thread?

Nonononon · 15/10/2019 07:37

Morning all! Didn't feel 100% when I got up this morning, I feel.. odd. But had some water and a coffee, may be coming down with something because I have a sore throat too and I'm sure that's not down to lack of carbs!
Anyway, I'm powering through.
B: eggs something
L: left over bolagnaise with kale
D: chicken legs with coleslaw.

Two coffees with almond milk and as much water as I can manage!

I can't seem to find the link to the spreadsheet, I've scanned all the recent threads too, can someone post a link for me please? Thanks.

Hope everyone has a great day.

rosesandsunflowers · 15/10/2019 07:40

Well done everyone on the first day. I found it surprisingly ok. Had a bit of a headache early evening but I think I hadn't eaten enough. I had a couple of spoonfuls of some full fat yoghurt which helped. Managed to drink 3.5litres of water + a couple of coffees and a tea.
Had a rubbish night as both kids are sick and DH has to go to A&E last night too. Feel like today is going to be a struggle already.
Plan today is:
B: eggs and bacon (is it better to have fried or scrambled or poached?
L: homemade coleslaw, salad and feta
D: prawn curry with cauliflower rice.

8Track · 15/10/2019 07:40

Rshard I think I saw it on here on an old thread, but I made it just be chucking things at the soup maker - chopped shallot and celery fried in some coconut oil, bag of frozen cauli, handful of cheddar cheese chunks, pepper, bit of double cream, topped up with a little veg stock. I wanted it quite thick. A bit experimental but smells delish!

Nono it should be a link in the very first post on this thread - Spreadsheet of Fabulousness I think it's called.

SaoirseSeahorse · 15/10/2019 07:41

Morning!

Not off to a great start... My lovely DH brought me a cup of tea in bed this morning which had a teaspoon of sugar in it. I wasn't really thinking and drank it... oh dear.

Anyway, onwards and upwards.

Plan today is:

B: boiled eggs and cucumbers
L: cauliflower soup
D: chicken curry, made with leftover chicken from last night, spices and coconut milk
Snacks: creamy coffee and maybe some cheese

Nonononon · 15/10/2019 07:48

Thanks 8track Smile

Almahart · 15/10/2019 07:59

Slipped into boot camp light last night with some dark chocolate but won’t do that again

Today - bf will be Greek yoghurt, lunch a Greek salad and some avocado and dinner might be bacon and scrambled eggs ( as that’s what’s in the fridge!)

Off to a conference over night on Wednesday so will need to take some emergency snacks just in case.

RozHuntleysStump · 15/10/2019 08:00

Morning everyone. My first day due to son’s birthday yesterday. Weighed 14stone 😭 I’d got down to 13.6! Oh well. Going to measure myself once the house has warmed up a bit.

Not had anything to eat yet as I need to go shopping but have someone bringing me a box of eggs so will have a couple of those before I venture out.
The hardest thing for me is drinking the water! As I like to go walking a lot, I like to avoid needing a wee.

TheHoundsofLove · 15/10/2019 08:07

Yes Roz - I have the same issue. How on earth do you all manage to drink so much when you're out and about all day?
Talk of cauliflower cheese soup has reminded me that I have a recipe for Cauliflower, Gorgonzola and Wholegrain Mustard Soup which is really nice. I will dig it out later...

Rayna37 · 15/10/2019 08:39

Out and about today with a lot of driving so the water might be a challenge. Excellent breakfast at Leon of the truffle mushroom egg pot. Lunch will something nice from M&S or Waitrose at services and as it's only day two I'm sure I can resist the endless bloody chocolate biscuits always on offer where I'm headed. Dinner will be a simple one, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs.

Oct '19 - Week 1 Low Carb Bootcamp - Here we go!
Twit · 15/10/2019 09:02

Morning all!
I stuck to the plan yesterday, and eventually managed 2 and a bit litres of water. I ended up with a headache, and went to bed early, so I forgot to measure myself.
I will definitely get carb flu, and I tend to get it quite badly, so I'll be watching my salt intake (thanks for the info @BIWI) and gritting my teeth to get through it. 🙁
Today's planned menu is:
Breakfast- egg
Dinner- tuna and mayo plus salad leaves
Tea-chicken legs, courgette and spinach.
And 2.5 litres of water.

We're having a new front door put in today, so I'm going to be hanging around my own home awkwardly, trying to look busy whilst actually being busy editing 40k words on my laptop.😭

venusandmars · 15/10/2019 09:02

@EmmaGrundyforPM

It can feel tough when you're out and about, but as you before familiar with the rules and the kind of choices you can make, it does get easier, and you will learn you own way round it. The thing to remember is that the woe is pretty much all or nothing (except when it's unavoidable), so you can't routinely have creamy eggs and bacon for breakfast AND sandwiches for lunch AND meatzza for tea.

This is how I have managed working out and about, business lunches, and staying low carb.

  • plan ahead. Know where every M&S food outlet is near your destination, know which M&S snacks are delicious and low carb, so you can pop out of the conference at lunch time and quickly get something you know you'll enjoy.
  • don't let yourself get hungry. Have a big breakfast before you go (or allow enough time to get something before it starts) eggs, bacon, sausage, mushroom, butter coffee. Have some lchf snacks to eat about 30-60 minutes before lunch time (nuts, cheese and ham rollitos, olives). That way you won't be as tempted to dive into a pile of sandwiches, fruit or cake.
  • take an alternative for the coffee breaks. I often have a bag with a few macadamia nuts in it (5-10) or a couple of squares of Lindtt 90% dark chocolate. I know that I'm not hungry at coffee break, but when everyone else is tucking into muffins or biscuits I at least have something alternative to put in my mouth if I get snacking envy.
  • become an expert at knowing what you can have from a lunchtime buffet and dive in there - cheese, ham, salad items (with lots of mayonnaise - you can even get individual sachets to carry around with you to increase the fat content of salads
  • take a snack with you to eat as soon as the conference finishes. Having something to look forward to helps me to control my eating in the middle of the day, and stops me making poor choices at the station on the way home when I'm hungry and tired.

I know that some of these (the nuts and chocolate) are not intended for the first 2 weeks of bootcamp, (please forgive me BIWI) but they're better options than a tasteless sandwich that you didn't really want in the first place. Also as bootcamp goes on you'll probably find yourself less hungry and more able to turn down the lunch buffet. It's a journey, and maybe a way of eating for the long-term, so if the sandwiches are unavoidable one day, then so be it.

venusandmars · 15/10/2019 09:09

B - avocado, butter coffee
L - out, but I've looked at the menu and I'm planning moules mariniere, followed by confit duck. I'll swap the potatoes for seasonal green veg in butter
D - still out, so will miss dinner, and will have a boiled egg with butter when I get home at night.

Glenthebattleostrich · 15/10/2019 09:12

Morning everyone.

I have the screeching child today so give me the strength not to fall head first into a vat of Halloween chocolate to drown him out!! He's currently stropping because I handed another child some crumpet 🤔☹️

Water wise, I have a big glass or a bottle as soon as I get up, before my cup of tea.. Then another after my shower. I've always drunk lots of water on a morning, might be a fatty but I have lovely skin!!

For days I'm out and about lots or very busy I've ordered some lo dough (from the products thread) to try. Also posh pork scratchings are about £10 for a box of 12 from Amazon. I'm putting some in my bag when I go to the cinema tonight.

Rose, I hope the children are on the mend soon and that your DH is ok.

SittingontheSidelines · 15/10/2019 09:20

Morning all, not caught up with the thread yet, was going to log my weight first as I forgot yesterday.
So can anyone help please. I have the app from last Bootcamp as I do the spread sheet on my phone. However I can't get this Bootcamp spreadsheet onto it only the May one. Any suggestions, I suspect it's fairly obvious when you know how.

BIWI · 15/10/2019 09:26

Morning all.

Just working through today's posts in order, so forgive me if anything has already been answered!

@northernknickers @PrimaDonna123 @GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal really sorry, I can't help with the technical issues; I rarely use my phone for MN as I find it too clunky so always use my laptop. Hopefully someone else can help you!

@Nonononon here's a link to the spreadsheet It's in the OP of this post - I always post it at the beginning of each week's thread. Sorry to hear you're not feeling great but, as you say, a sore throat really won't be from low carbing Flowers

@rosesandsunflowers

Well done everyone on the first day. I found it surprisingly ok. Had a bit of a headache early evening but I think I hadn't eaten enough. I had a couple of spoonfuls of some full fat yoghurt which helped.

Sorry you're feeling a bit rough - did you read the piece I posted about carb/keto flu? It sounds like this is what you're heading for - should only last a few days. In the meantime, especially with the amount of water you will be drinking, it's really important to keep your sodium intake up. Which means salt - cook with it, add it to your food, and try a hot drink made from either Oxo, Bovril or Marmite.

You also need magnesium and potassium, and good sources of these are full fat natural yoghurt, salmon, avocado and spinach.

B: eggs and bacon (is it better to have fried or scrambled or poached?

Either are perfect low carb, but scrambled will be better, on balance, because you'll get more fat, as you will be making them with butter. (You will, won't you? Wink)

Sorry about illnesses and trips to A&E - hope that's all resolved now?

@RozHuntleysStump @TheHoundsofLove you do get used to drinking lots of water, I promise you!

@Twit

Breakfast- egg
Dinner- tuna and mayo plus salad leaves
Tea-chicken legs, courgette and spinach

I realise this is just jotting notes down, without the full details, but please make sure you're getting plenty of fat in those meals

@venusandmars that's a great post - thank you very much. And it's so true. M&S are getting better and better at providing low carb-suitable foods (whether intentionally or not!) Flowers

@SittingontheSidelines looks like you have the same problem as others upthread - I'm sorry but I don't know how to correct that for you. The only thing I'd try (statement of the bleedin' obvious really!) would be to delete the app and then download it again? No idea if that will work!

Nonononon · 15/10/2019 09:28

The speadsheet wont load on my phone either and I don't have a laptop Blush
I don't feel well at all today, really light headed, tired and my guts are doing some strange things, sore throat is still there but idk if that's from all the laughing I did when me and dd were messing around last night.
I've been lowcarbing since last week so could this be keto flu? If it is I hope it passes soon.
On the plus side I had a lovely sleep last night!
