So here we are!

Lots of us signed up this time, so inevitably the thread will move very quickly. Please, though, take the time to read the whole thread!. Although this is a place where you can post your daily menus, or your thoughts and questions, please don't just do this, but read what other people have posted too.

A bit thank you to the very lovely @AthelstaneTheUnready who has set up the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness. Star

The Spreadsheet

If your name isn't on there, don't panic! Just add yourself to the bottom of the list. Don't worry about trying to alphabetise it - that will be sorted out for you. (And if you're on the spreadsheet but don't want to be, don't worry - if you don't post on it your name will be taken off)

Here's a brief recap of the rules:

  1. Eat three proper meals a day
  2. Avoid processed foods
  3. Eat plenty of fat
  4. Make sure you are eating plenty of vegetables and salad
  5. Be careful about dairy (apart from butter which is unlimited)
  6. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water a day
  7. No alcohol
  8. No fruit
  9. No nuts/seeds
10.No sugar or artificial sweeteners

The full rules are here . They're supposed to be stickied at the top of the Low Carb Bootcamp topic (along with the recipe threads), but for some reason they're stickied at the top of page 2!

Remember that after the first two weeks we can relax some of this, and move on to Bootcamp Light, which means that you can add some fruit (berries mainly), alcohol (in moderation) and nuts and seeds (again, in moderation), but the point of the strict initial phase is to help push your body into burning fat for fuel rather than carbohydrate.

And remember - if you cheat, you will only be delaying this process from happening!

Good luck to everyone. Any questions or problems, just shout! Smile

PISS - how apt in so many LC ways Grin

PushkarKali · 18/05/2019 23:06

@18pagesfrontandback - I do that every time I weigh myself - do it once holding the laundry basket then properly. The scales need resetting sometimes I think.

m0therofdragons · 19/05/2019 02:39

Crap, meal out was low carb - steak with Parmesan broccoli and buttery asparagus (but sooo much). Avoided alcohol and crisps at Eurovision party but ate chocolate and strawberries... and some roasted peanuts. I've not had a blip since end of March so I guess I was due. Back on it now - probably with an extra stone to lose. Now weighing tomorrow. Too scared!

WheelyCote · 19/05/2019 06:19

Morning everyone
Hope eveyones doing okay

IStillMissBlockbuster · 19/05/2019 08:10

Hey everyone, i'm just meal planning for the week ahead and one of the recipes on the meat recipes thread uses chickpeas - are these allowed?

MumbleLumble · 19/05/2019 08:14

I weighted myself today and I've lost 7lb. (started Tuesday) this has been keeping me going but I'm worried if I don't lose any weight next week it'll demotivate me! I need to get a tape measure I think.

IStillMissBlockbuster · 19/05/2019 08:17

18.5g carbs per 100g

TheWayOfTheWorld · 19/05/2019 08:35

I'm going to a wedding today - I am quite anxious about the food situation. I've just had a good breakfast and, if need be, will just fast until this evening (we will be leaving late afternoon to collect our children from grandparents etc) - I am going to pop a couple of nibbles in my handbag in case I need something to keep me going.

blackteaplease · 19/05/2019 08:37

Gosh this thread moves fast, I've caught up the last 24 hours now. I've just had a yummy cooked hotel breakfast to start my day. I succumbed to a snack pack of salted peanuts on the train as we were delayed but all in all I've managed to LC a weekend away. I would have had pork scratching but I got a random gristly bit recently and it put me right off them.

Rshard · 19/05/2019 08:40

Morning all

Definitely measure mumblelumble, it stopped me from diving into carbs head first when the scales weren’t moving. Or you could keep trying a too tight piece of clothing as someone suggested upthread. I had a jacket which was about 2 inches from closing when I started but is now too big.

BIWI · 19/05/2019 09:04

@Iamnotacerealkiller Haven't you read any of the elventy million posts I've made about weeks 3 and 4?! You're heading into week 3, and it's very, very, very common for weight loss to slow or stop for a couple of weeks. I had no idea about the Atkins acronym, but that shows it's a clear phenomenon and not just you or your scales!

KOKO and things will get going again soon.

My scales have a really annoying habit of showing a higher weight when I first step on them. I have to step off, let the digital display go off, and then get back on again for a second, always lower weight. Which is always the one I take Grin

@IStillMissBlockbuster definitely not allowed during the first two weeks of Bootcamp, and not really allowed on Bootcamp either! Not sure why that recipe is on there, but I'll go and take a look

Morning... I survived Friday and Saturday without booze! Yay!
It was long.
But, DH is finally home tonight after over a week (extra 2 days due to a missed flight) and that's good as the kids are driving me potty...and nearly driving me to Carbs.
Yesterday
B. Bacon, spinach, avo.
L. Wasn't hungry!
D. More veg in butter and cream, more pork steaks in garlic
Then I did fall into the fridge, but got away mostly unscathed with baby bel, a pepperami and lots of sparkling water.
Spent the eveno g pkayi g with our new kittens and watching videos about cat behaviour...
B. Not had it yet, might have scrambled eggs in a bit as need to leave for DDs riding lesson in a mo.
L/d roast lamb, veg... Got swede, parsnips, greens, green beans, leeks, courgette. Kids can have roasts and Yorkshires too.
Will try to walk a bit today, but my knee is still buggered. Hoping I can start running again soon, really going to struggle if I can't. Also can't do yoga, plates... Can't bend it without pain, can't get on all 4s..was hoping to speed up weight loss with exercise but that ain't happening!

DrBuckles · 19/05/2019 09:06

Morning everyone.

Another big achievement for me- last nights Eurovision celebrations and I didn’t go carbsy! I had cheeses and meats and olives but none of the usual breads and desserts.

I did have a couple of gin and tonics which I know isn’t allowed but again I had a couple, not 10 which is an improvement for me.

Have a good day everyone, looking forward to weigh ins tomorrow!

BIWI · 19/05/2019 09:09

@IStillMissBlockbuster I've had a look at that recipe, and it's definitely not allowed - tinned tomatoes, onion and chickpeas or peas would make that pretty carby.

OP posts:
IStillMissBlockbuster · 19/05/2019 09:16

Ok, thanks for clarifying!

MrsBertBibby · 19/05/2019 09:19

Youcan't, parsnips are on the red list. The delicious bastards!

We need kitten pics!

Iamnotacerealkiller · 19/05/2019 09:20

Thanks everyone. im an experienced low carber and have had two big weight losses using this in the last few years. That's why its soo frustrating to have such long stalls, that and having a deadline to get to a size 12. Im being much stricter then the first time i did this that's the thing, its being much less forgiving then the first time which was about 8 years ago.

Iamnotacerealkiller · 19/05/2019 09:28

Thanks BIWI. its the end of week 2 for me. Its just annoying as this is what happened last bootcamp before a 5 week stall. then after that i was only losing 1/2 a pound for one week before boot camp ended and i gave up in pure frustration. i suppose because i am comparing this to my first time which felt so fricking easy! i lost two and a half stone in less then three months without any fasting which is what i do now just to maintain. Physics suggests it shouldn't be different this time but IT IS!

I will of course KOKO as i just feel much better while doing this, partially i think because i am doing something about my weight rather then ignoring the problem. You are right it is too early to worry about :)

I am very grumpy anyway because i'm just getting over a bout of thrush too! I wonder if that is a result of my hormones changing about as i don't normally get it unless extremely stressed and im certainly not eating any sugar to feed it!

devoncreamtea · 19/05/2019 09:30

Morning everyone.
youcantscaremeihaveachild sorry that your knee is still painful - can you get to a physio? I think the best thing to do for it is to rest it though - frustrating!

Well done on everyone getting through the first weekend without the usual treats and drinks. It is surprisingly difficult!! I would have denied being a sugar/wine weekend junky till blue in the face - but I have struggled a lot to go without this weekend. kudos to all in the same boat!
Just had the most brilliant cooked breakfast (with added avocado!) and feel really nicely satisfied. Made it for the children too. We have a big competition today for my 10 yr old who is a good gymnast and trains with the local squad. Very dubious snacks available at gym club (it is like going back to the 80’s - they get rewarded for mastering new moves with mars bars!!!!) and do t want to be hassled endlessly by peckish kids!!
Will cook a chicken on our return and hope my dh is back in time to help with bedtime...
My lovely daughter is much better, so that is a load off.
Hope everyone enjoys a more relaxing Sunday than mine..Grin

VeryLittleOwl · 19/05/2019 09:30

I had an eye-opening rummage through the salad dressings in Tesco yesterday. The vinaigrettes you think would be low carb are actually the highest because of all the sugar. Came away with a cesar dressing with carbs of 1.4g per 100g. (Tried making my own vinaigrette last week, it did not go well...) Really annoyed that I forgot to pick up any yoghurt though. I am bad with breakfast, I usually don't eat it at all because most low carb breakfasts make me feel sick (unless it's cold leftovers from the night before which weirdly is fine), but I saw the suggestion of full fat yoghurt with double cream in it and thought that sounded great. Got the double cream, forgot the yoghurt and I know the corner shop (well, 7 miles away and shut today anyway) doesn't sell it.

So:
B: Ummm...
L: Roast beef cesar salad
S: Steak with asparagus and cauliflower cheese

Hope everyone who was feeling lousy last night has a better day today and well done to all those who resisted the Eurovision snackfest!

venusandmars · 19/05/2019 09:32

Youcantscareme watch out for the parsnips, they've got a lot of sugar. Hope the knee is better soon.

I didn't do so well on the water yesterday. Away camping overnight, so I drank as much as I could in the morning and very little in the evening, with the aim of not having to get up in the night for a pee. Didn't work. And I had a raging thirst in the night and had to faff around getting water. Ah well it's a sunny morning, and I'm sitting outside with my avocado - perfect camping food!
B - avocado
L - will be at a seafood restaurant, probably scallops with pancetta and creamed cauliflower, then pan fried sea bass with spinach
D - Italian meats, olives, cheese and huge salad

SittingontheSidelines · 19/05/2019 09:33

@Nameusernameuser we have a son younger than our two grandchildren. They've always been really close. Congratulations to you all.

prettybird · 19/05/2019 09:34

Weighing in a day early (as I'm on the overnight bus to London tonight to go to London Wine Fair) but 4lb off since Tuesday Smile

It's frustrating to be going back over old ground Hmm but I'm not going to beat myself up about it - what's done is done Grin I need to remind myself that I'm still over 2 stone lighter than I was this time 2 years ago Smile

Onwards and downwards Smile

I have pepperami and babybels to take with me to London and plan to drink plenty of water (having finally got back into the habit: it really does make a massive difference). The good thing about wine tasting tables is that in addition to the spittoons Wink, they also have plenty of jugs of water Grin

devoncreamtea · 19/05/2019 09:35

Cross posted there with iamnotacerealkiller (great name!). Just wondering if the stall might be to do with the thrush? I remember someone saying upthread (might’ve been you!) that the thrush episodes were because the fungus or whatever it is, is trying to cling on in the face of low carb cutting off the sugar supply. I wonder if that reaction might lead to inflammation and water retention as you fight it off?

m0therofdragons · 19/05/2019 09:54

I braved the scales after last night's deviant behaviour and I've actually lost 1lb. May be a delayed reaction is coming.

I've pretty much stuck to this woe since jan boot camp and am half a stone from target so my losses are much slower now, but still the right direction it seems.

Well done for all the big losses! This week I have no reason to stray so onwards and downwards Grin
