So here we are!

Lots of us signed up this time, so inevitably the thread will move very quickly. Please, though, take the time to read the whole thread!. Although this is a place where you can post your daily menus, or your thoughts and questions, please don't just do this, but read what other people have posted too.

A bit thank you to the very lovely @AthelstaneTheUnready who has set up the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness. Star

The Spreadsheet

If your name isn't on there, don't panic! Just add yourself to the bottom of the list. Don't worry about trying to alphabetise it - that will be sorted out for you. (And if you're on the spreadsheet but don't want to be, don't worry - if you don't post on it your name will be taken off)

Here's a brief recap of the rules:

  1. Eat three proper meals a day
  2. Avoid processed foods
  3. Eat plenty of fat
  4. Make sure you are eating plenty of vegetables and salad
  5. Be careful about dairy (apart from butter which is unlimited)
  6. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water a day
  7. No alcohol
  8. No fruit
  9. No nuts/seeds
10.No sugar or artificial sweeteners

The full rules are here . They're supposed to be stickied at the top of the Low Carb Bootcamp topic (along with the recipe threads), but for some reason they're stickied at the top of page 2!

Remember that after the first two weeks we can relax some of this, and move on to Bootcamp Light, which means that you can add some fruit (berries mainly), alcohol (in moderation) and nuts and seeds (again, in moderation), but the point of the strict initial phase is to help push your body into burning fat for fuel rather than carbohydrate.

And remember - if you cheat, you will only be delaying this process from happening!

Good luck to everyone. Any questions or problems, just shout! Smile

At Nando’s the butterfly thighs are quite nice, the ratatouille is alright too and quite low carb as it goes.

BIWI · 17/05/2019 10:19

@Almahart - if you go to the Nandos website they have a download of their menu, with a full nutritional breakdown, so you can make your choice from that

Ooh fabulous thanks biwi and I love ratatouille ninkaninus

Youwanapizzame · 17/05/2019 10:38

Morning everyone!

just gone to refill my water bottle! Really pleased with my efforts this week although there was a coupla blips. Pleased it didnt throw me off altogether.

B - Bacon, sausage, black pudding
l - leftover dinner
D - Takeaway (Likely to be something tikka/shashlik with raita or paneer something!)

I wore a dress I bought a while agoe yesterday that has been "too small" and while it WILL look better with a bit more off, I wore it AND felt a bit foxy! I'm wearing a jumpsuit today that has similarly not seen the light of day!!! Not bad for not even a full week! :) :) :)

BIWI · 17/05/2019 10:40

Sounds like some really great results already!

Just don't relax too much this weekend so that a good result on Monday is jeopardised!

Tried the Greek yoghurt and (extra thick) cream for breakfast this morning - pretty filling!

bibliomania · 17/05/2019 10:58

On adding things to natural yoghurt, I'm fond of a drop of rosewater (do not overdo it!) and/or ground cardamom. I feel like I'm starting the day in the Grand Bazaar rather than, er, Yorkshire.

Nyon · 17/05/2019 11:13

Thanks, Chipping - shall do!

Managed to remain fairly good last night at the Korean tapas place (there may have been one marinaded small piece of chicken that crept in but the portions were tiny and I was starving).

Today’s menu:
B: baked eggs
S: pork scratchings. Still feeling peckish during the day.
L: Salad, colesaw, goats cheese and cold pork
D: creamy leeks, lamb frying steak and spinach. very much looking forward to this, especially as DP is cooking it!

I think it’s in the rules that everybody has several jars of out of date herbs and spices in their cupboards eh? Grin And nope, I wouldn’t sling it. Not unless it tasted grim or was growing things on it. Then again... even that could be good for gut health Wink

Thanks for the lactase enzymes tip. I don’t have a full on intolerance it’s only milk that I just can’t stomach for some reason. But unless those drops remove the carbs too (?) they’re not on the shopping list yet Grin

For those of us who need help with drinking water plain, Waitrose has Twinings Cold Infuse bags reduced from £3.70 to £2.50. I really like the rose lemonade flavour but can't bring myself to buy them at full price.

I've lost the post, but someone asked me about cauliflower bhaji - I've never made it, unfortunately, but now I really want them Grin

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 17/05/2019 11:30

Just had to snooze the Facebook page of a local pudding business because it kept showing me lots of lovely things I'm not allowed! Confused

Ninkaninus · 17/05/2019 11:30

Just had an early lunch of leftover butter chicken curry with cauliflower rice, plus a plate of crudités for raw veg benefits and also to help with roughage for digestion. It was delicious! Thought a photo would be useful for pp who was asking about veg portion sizes - this is what I’d typically have for a lunch, whatever mix of veg I’m having and whatever dish. If it’s an actual salad I would have a biggish portion of leaves as well, maybe 3 or 4 big handfuls?

Hello! Glad I've found you - I really need to join bootcamp and great timing it is in the first week. I've done it before under another name.

I've tried to add myself to the sheet, but it is saying it is protected. Please could someone add me? Starting weight 223 pounds Blush

m0therofdragons · 17/05/2019 11:45

Looks lovely @Ninkaninus now my lunch looks rubbish Grin

Really need today to be over. Tomorrow we're going to a burger bar so no bun or chips but they do do broccoli with Parmesan which sounds like a good option!

SittingontheSidelines · 17/05/2019 11:58

Just measured my dinner plates. 10" and 101/2". Thanks BIWI. I'll use the smaller one.

Almahart · 17/05/2019 12:03

Ooh rosewater and cardamom sounds lovely

18pagesfrontandback · 17/05/2019 12:59

Yes I’ve read/heard that before about plate sizes (maybe even on previous BC thread? Grin)

I think for those of us from the generation(s) of ‘you’re not leaving the table til you’ve finished your dinner’ (or worse(!) ‘...having pudding’ when that was on offer), it probably hasn’t helped us to stay in tune with our bodies’ hungry/full signals. Hmm
I know I was definitely from one of those households! And to this day eat all my dinner up like a good girl StarWink

I remember a few years ago catching myself spouting the same sort of thing to my dc and then thought, ‘wtf am I doing?’ So now instead I say ‘if it’s too much, just eat until you’ve had enough’. And try to monitor/adjust the portion sizes I’m giving accordingly.

18pagesfrontandback · 17/05/2019 13:02

We eat from dinner bowls rather than plates at the moment. Think I might need to measure those for reference Hmm

Lunch is chicken stir fried in olive oil with a bit of white cabbage and few cherry toms, big dollop of mayo and some cholula chilli sauce. Tastes nicer than it probably sounds!

ChippingInLowCarbing · 17/05/2019 13:32

DrBuckles fab, thank you, I’ll see if our Tesco stock it (frozen cauli rice, for those just dipping in).

The (frozen) celeriac was brilliant! It’s tiny pieces so it cooked really quickly. It was definitely as good as the fresh and faff free. Price was £1.70 per kg and fresh was £1.60 per kg, I’d easily lose the difference in the peelings I’m sure. Anyway, as far as I’m concerned it could be a lot more expensive than fresh and I’d still buy it!

I cooked it, then mashed it with butter, salt, loads of black pepper and some sour cream. (It’ll never be better than mashed potatoes, but you know...)

The 500g bags say serves 6-8. All I can say is that must be based on toddlers or people who really detest it! I’d say 2-3 depending on appetite and what else you’re having. Or I’m a greedy guts 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣

SittingontheSidelines · 17/05/2019 13:41

Breakfast yogurt
Lunch plain omelette and radishes sautéed in butter.
Dinner will be, spicy fried prawns, haloumi, avacado and salad leaves. (Probably some Mayo)

I've had over two thirds of my water already

What's happened to the sun?

felippertyfeck · 17/05/2019 13:54

Boo hiss to the clouds sittingonthesidelines! Forgotten about radishes, love them, off to the shops.. again I go.

Yesterday did quite well on food but not on water. Feel rubbish today, could sleep or England. B, mushroom omelette, L. cheese salad,
D. chicken salad with mayo and all the chicken juice and skin.

Today going well but some cravings have returned. Will have to see if crunchy radishes help!

Rayna37 · 17/05/2019 14:17

Excellent service station lunch: M&S simply food has a 3 for £7 deli deal so I got a pack of prawns in chilli and coriander, some Mexican chicken and some rollitos. All low carb. I've actually just eaten the prawns and an individual wedge of Brie they sell (53p) and will take the other two home. Not much veg but all very low carb and delicious and a superb alternative to a KFC or Burger King, albeit more expensive than just a salad or sandwich from M&S, tastier too. Not great for veg but then lunch on the go never is unless you get a salad and often they come with carbs, whether obvious or hidden.

blackteaplease · 17/05/2019 14:21

Ooh yes radish. Last year we had a glut in the garden and we had to get inventive. They were delicious roasted.

I'm off to see take that tomorrow night, two train journeys and a meal out to negotiate. I've checked out menus and planned my packed lunch for tomorrow already but I'm not sure I can keep on top of the water requirements.

VeryLittleOwl · 17/05/2019 14:36

Many apologies, I think I may have inadvertently PM'd someone with a picture of my chicken salad - first time trying to post from the app was obviously a failure!

Back home from town and happy to report that I not only ordered a chicken Caesar salad for lunch instead of a burger, but also managed to pick all the lovely garlic croutons off it and ignore them. Made it round Tesco without falling into the bakery section and after DH said he wanted pizza tonight, picked up the bits I needed to make myself fried leeks and onions with bacon and Boursin for supper. Final challenge of the day will be to ignore DH's left-over pizza, because there always is some.

Also wanted to say bloody well done to Rayna37 for a successful navigation of the breakfast buffet, I find those things really, really hard to make good choices at because I love pain au chocolat, croissants and Danishes.
