Week 3 - Low Carb Bootcamp - which way will you go?

Morning all

Here's the spreadsheet

So a few mixed results so far. Hopefully there will be some more good ones on the spreadsheet!

I suspect that what a lot of you are coming to realise is that this isn't a way of eating that can allow you to cheat or even to take your eye off the ball.

In this initial phase, while we're aiming to become fat-adapted, it's really important that you keep your carbs as low as you can (within sensible limits - this is not a a zero carb diet - you should be eating enough veg and salad to get good nutrition, which will mean you're eating carbs)

I know that sometimes it's impossible. I'm in a situation where tonight I'm being cooked for, by people who have no idea I'm low carbing, and who haven't asked if there's anything I can/can't eat - so I'll just have to accept it. But whilst it's within your control, you really do need to stay strong.

Now.

This is the start of the infamous week 3 (and next week, week 4) - and it's very, very, VERY common for weight loss to stop - or sometimes even for people to gain slightly, even if they're following the rules.

So. You can decide to stay on Bootcamp if you want to, to help deal with this, or you could move onto Bootcamp Light, which means you can start to add some fruit, some nuts and seeds and some alcohol back into your diet.

The operative word is 'some'! All in moderation - and not at every meal, every day - because this will mean that you won't see the weight loss you want to.

There are three options:

  • stay on Bootcamp
  • move to Bootcamp Light
  • choose a hybrid - Bootcamp during the week, Bootcamp Light at the weekend

Whatever you choose, I hope that you have a good, positive and successful week. Flowers

For all those of you wondering about the recent report that we should hardly eat any meat, here's a really interesting 'dissection' of it

I’m going to try roasting some cauliflower tonight - any tips?

BIWI · 30/01/2019 17:40

Cut it into florets, put in an oven/roasting tray, sprinkle generously with olive oil and season with sea salt black pepper and ground cumin. Bake for around 20-30 minutes till it's starting to char.

Haworthia · 30/01/2019 17:43

Ooh, I never would have thought of ground cumin. I’ve just got a new jar too 👍

Katinkka · 30/01/2019 17:45

Struggling a bit today as started on metformin and it’s making me feel sick despite the anti sickness tablets I was given too. I am struggling to think of what to have for tea as I need to eat something to take the rest of my tablets! However, have gone on a long walk and was at yoga and Pilates last night so overall I’m doing well.

Told the consultant I was doing low carb and he approved which was great. I was worried he might say something about it. My friend who’s a nurse and has a diabetic son said I need carbs!

Tuna may salad for lunch. Yoghurt for breakfast.

AandL · 30/01/2019 17:58

That's gas @MrsKoala, it's hardly run of the mill!
Dinner was bloody delicious, kids loved it too. Roasted broc & green beans with added lemon juice + grated parm were very tasty!!

venusandmars · 30/01/2019 18:01

@katinkka you ARE having carbs, it is just that you are having them in a really healthy way - salad, leafy green vegetables, fibrous root veg (celeriac, swede). So much better for you than pasta, white rice or a biscuit!

venusandmars · 30/01/2019 18:12

@1stMrsF At conference type things I sometimes have to remind myself that I am not actually hungry - it is a mindless habit of mine to grab something sweet and tasty, but if I actually take a moment to listen to my body then a glass of water or mug of herbal tea is all that I really need. That said, I often take a little bag with 3 macadamia nuts in it so that I can snack, and that I don't feel so irritated and deprived. I only take a small number so I eat them consciously, rather than scooping handfuls.

ShagMeRiggins · 30/01/2019 18:34

Slinky your huffy post brought much mirth with it. I love laughing at a good rant.

My facial and manicure (tough life) had to be cancelled as one of the children slipped on the ice and might have broken his hand. Enjoying A&E wait now and really, really wishing I had eaten breakfast, as this interrupted my planned late lunch. #starving

Batshittery · 30/01/2019 18:38

Evening everyone

BIWI I haven't been on mn in the last couple of days but I can understand how such a thread must have hurt you Thanks
I don't think some people realise that you don't get paid for doing this. You have a rl job and only do this to help us that need it. If someone has been pissed off that you told them off for cheating then bc is not for them. There are far more grateful posters, me included.

On another note - the swede chat really made me laugh. They are tricky beggars. Grin

On a bc that I did moons ago after a few weeks, the movement on the scales really slowed down, however, i went down a dress size with just an apparent loss of a few pounds. It's wizardry. Stick with it. Smile

Batshittery · 30/01/2019 18:42

Shagme I hope DC is ok Thanks

Mimosa1 · 30/01/2019 18:43

@Haworthia i love roast cauliflower with garlic powder. Somehow it doesn't come out garlicky, more umami-ish. And I LOVE the leaves and stalk. I used to trim the cauliflower and chuck the greens years ago until a friend showed me the light and I've never looked back

Jambalaya76 · 30/01/2019 18:43

nowlook · 30/01/2019 19:12

@Batshittery I've been one of the fortunate so far in terms of weight loss, but not seen a massive difference in waist size. I'm hopeful that the notorious 3rd and 4th week will see me lose a pound or two but bring with it some inches off the wine belly!

Batshittery · 30/01/2019 19:16

It's not always obvious nowlook. I was down hearted that the scales weren't moving and after a couple of weeks, my waistbands were spinning round me. I also found that I had no cellulite. That was a revelation Smile

BIWI · 30/01/2019 19:23

@venusandmars I'm very tickled by the fact that you have precisely 3 macadamias Grin

ShagMeRiggins · 30/01/2019 19:32

@Batshittery, thank you, he’s fine. It’s a bad sprain. Can’t play football for a month (he’s gutted) not any computer games/PlayStation (I’m all Ha Ha Ha). Blush

A&E was packed. Absolutely everyone slipping on the ice and hurting themselves.

Anyway, I succumbed to a pack of quavers from the vending machine—12 carbs—and home after four hours, ordered pizza for the kids, drinking lots of water while I prepare sea bass with beurre blanc, asparagus, and spinach for myself.

Cannot be bothered to annihilate a celeriac for chips. Also have a gin & slim in my fecking unmanicured hand.

AandL thank you for reminding me about tournedos Rossini. Fucking yum is what I have to say about that, and I now know what I’m making for our Valentine’s Day dinner (unless my husband gets his act together and books something).

Looking at ingredients it seems the toast and truffles are the biggest enemies. The Madeira pops up at 4g, as does the soy sauce, but the truffles are 73g carbs (all of these per 100g)!

I’d lose the bread and be stingy with the black truffle, but as the recipe is divided by four it doesn’t seem terribly concerning for such a special dish.

Batshittery · 30/01/2019 19:43

Also have a gin & slim in my fecking unmanicured hand.

Grin Grin sorry Shagme but Grin

Rshard · 30/01/2019 20:01

Laughed lots catching up with the thread this evening.
Can’t believe people are nasty @BIWI, as a pp said the boot camp is a big old clue!

AthelstaneTheUnready · 30/01/2019 20:19

Hope you're feeling a bit more settled now, AandL. Brew

Mimosa, that's a cracking idea. Don't know why I assumed you couldn't roast the stalks. I also have a celeriac I intend to make dauphinoise with, but haven't been able to be arsed all week. They last forever, right?

Good news/bad news: I have lost 2lbs today! after not losing at all last week . Also have v painful throat, headache, and shivery arms

AthelstaneTheUnready · 30/01/2019 20:20

Sorry, just realised I was channelling the Two Ronnies there.

Fuck...

SummerSazz · 30/01/2019 20:21

I'm back!!!

After a week away in London and Scotland and eating out for every meal I've done ok with 1lb loss for the week. I could have been better I'm sure (mainly alcohol as I only slipped on a small bread roll one night) but I kept off last weeks 3lb and lost one more. All good for me who lost nothing at all over the last year (put on and lost the same 5lbs) and I'm down 4 from the lowest of that Smile

I'm very happy with @BIWI 's stick and was laughing at the running group leader who offered to return the fees from a free group - you should def do the same!!!

Loving the recipe ideas too - I've had limited choices eating out so need to branch out myself I think otherwise keep to the same thing.

Well done all those who have koko despite life's (daily Hmm) challenges.

Batshittery · 30/01/2019 20:21

[grin]@Athelstane

Cozytoesandtoast00 · 30/01/2019 20:27

BIWI I love the stick. It makes my laugh!
Strange how people can get offended by honest feedback. I'd rather be told how it is, than get fatter by deluding myself!

m0therofdragons · 30/01/2019 20:30

This group worked so well for me in July and that was largely down to you @BIWI so I can only think they're just not cut out for it! Ignore them.
