Week 3 - Low Carb Bootcamp - which way will you go?

Morning all

Here's the spreadsheet

So a few mixed results so far. Hopefully there will be some more good ones on the spreadsheet!

I suspect that what a lot of you are coming to realise is that this isn't a way of eating that can allow you to cheat or even to take your eye off the ball.

In this initial phase, while we're aiming to become fat-adapted, it's really important that you keep your carbs as low as you can (within sensible limits - this is not a a zero carb diet - you should be eating enough veg and salad to get good nutrition, which will mean you're eating carbs)

I know that sometimes it's impossible. I'm in a situation where tonight I'm being cooked for, by people who have no idea I'm low carbing, and who haven't asked if there's anything I can/can't eat - so I'll just have to accept it. But whilst it's within your control, you really do need to stay strong.

Now.

This is the start of the infamous week 3 (and next week, week 4) - and it's very, very, VERY common for weight loss to stop - or sometimes even for people to gain slightly, even if they're following the rules.

So. You can decide to stay on Bootcamp if you want to, to help deal with this, or you could move onto Bootcamp Light, which means you can start to add some fruit, some nuts and seeds and some alcohol back into your diet.

The operative word is 'some'! All in moderation - and not at every meal, every day - because this will mean that you won't see the weight loss you want to.

There are three options:

  • stay on Bootcamp
  • move to Bootcamp Light
  • choose a hybrid - Bootcamp during the week, Bootcamp Light at the weekend

Whatever you choose, I hope that you have a good, positive and successful week. Flowers

MrsKoala’that sounds utterly shit. I’m sorry to hear it. Totally understand the wine, now finish whatever glass you’re on and go to bed if you can. Flowers

NorthernKnickers · 31/01/2019 21:46

Ah that's good then...I have been very good (goes off to polish halo 😇)

☺️

Doilooklikeatourist · 31/01/2019 21:49

@Northern , I have a gurgler going on as well , not so bad tonight , but last night gurgled and growled all all evening

@MrsK !!!!! What a nightmare ( my Dad had dementia , any type of infection made him worse , he had uti so often )

After being rudely awoken by a cramp , the rest of the day has been ok
My calf still aches though , tried the veg bouillon , not very nice 🤢

B 2 chipolata , mushrooms
L cauli , carrot , celery soup ( with extra salt , and a knob of butter )
D chicken breast withleeks , mushrooms , carrot, broccoli and cream sauce
Too much carrot , I think , ether choice of veg required tomorrow

1stMrsF · 31/01/2019 22:10

@MrsKoala that is not a good day Thanks

@NorthernKnickers have you eaten celeriac? Makes me gurgle (and then windy).

@SlinkyDinkyDoo and @BIWI the cheese sauce was delicious - it's amazing how lovely everything tastes with cream in!!

NorthernKnickers · 31/01/2019 22:14

No celeriac (and no wind...actually no wind since starting this! Which is a revelation in itself!! 😂😂)

MrsKoala · 31/01/2019 22:16

I have no idea what his plan is, He has no idea what his plan is. He keeps saying lets take each day as it come/cross that bridge when we come to it. But what that means is boiling the frog and incrementally leaving me with more and more shit.

In the last 6 weeks Fil has fallen, broken his hip, been hospitalised and then put in a home and become increasingly violent and destructive. My mum has been rushed to the hospital with DVT My 14 yo niece has been hospitalised for anorexia. I haven't stopped bleeding. Both the dses are struggling at school. We've al had numerous bouts of D&V and colds. DH has been working away a lot and is back off to Japan in 10 days. So I just have no idea what is happening. Every time my phone rings I think wtf now!?

Today
B - 3 egg and leek and courgette omelette
L - pork curry with green beans
D - Cauli mash, broccoli and baby corn and a small amount of beef goulash.

3 glasses of dry white wine. for medicinal purposes!

venusandmars · 31/01/2019 22:18

Food today:
B - avocado
L - 2 fried eggs, ham, cabbage, mushrooms
D - Sausage casserole, left over celeriac dauphinoise, buttered spinach, oven roasted cauliflower

Can anyone explain the science behind drinking so much water?

StuntNun · 31/01/2019 22:19

No clue I’m afraid Northern.

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 31/01/2019 22:42

Christ on a bike MrsKoala and I thought I had problems. At least you don't have camel toe (snigger)

Dia12 · 31/01/2019 23:07

Oh you've got a lot on your plate @MrsKoala, it always comes at once doesn't it. Things will settle down 🤞Sending you lots of love

I've been really good and kept on track and even managed a trip to the gym. Really ought to go more regularly, especially as I've just renewed the membership for the year and lost more monetary pounds than any pounds in weight!!!

I also came across some electrolyte replacement tablets at Aldi (I'd been looking at rehydration salts on amazon but these are much cheaper)....thought I'd share with the group - are these ok @BIWI?

Week 3 - Low Carb Bootcamp - which way will you go?
Mimosa1 · 01/02/2019 05:07

Oh @MrsKoala what a time you've had of it! i hope things settle down soon.

I'm up at the crack of dawn as my toddler woke up half an hour ago and has now gone back to sleep but I can't gggah. Generally speaking though, I do find Im sleeping better over the last few weeks. I think it may be related to this woe. DH said he thought I'd lost weight last night and I think I felt a hip bone today so hope to have a good week!

Morning all

Anxiously on snow watch here - we’ve had the merest sprinkling, but waiting on a text from school to say whether it’s open or not. I’ve got too much to do today so I’m desperately hoping it’s open! They’re usually pretty sensible - but the forecast is for it to carry on snowing all day. Hmmm.

Have made much better food choices this week and it’s showing from my sneaky hop on the scales 😄

Last night I roasted some cauliflower for the first time to have with roast veg and halloumi- it was lovely! Will definitely do it again.

Also share the love for the cream cheese white sauce - but a word of warning - I find it splits if you reheat it in the microwave. Disappointing when you’ve taken leftovers to work that you’re really looking forward to!

Hope you managed to get some sleep @MrsKoala

BalloonSlayer · 01/02/2019 06:56

Flowers Mrs Koala. I remember all your other threads about your family situation and was reading your posts here with pleasure, thinking how nice it was that everything seemed to be going great for you. Hope everything is OK Sad I expect DH will come to his senses and realise that his DDad needs a different nursing home and sort it - definitely doable in 10 days.

Re boot camp I was thrilled yesterday morning as I had lost 6 pounds overall. Had a very good day yesterday and have put on a pound and a half! Grr.

StuntNun · 01/02/2019 07:34

Dia I use this electrolyte powder which works out really cheap - it's 500g and a scoop is 1g so only 4p per 500ml. It doesn't contain any artificial sweeteners or flavourings so it's much healthier too. I like the way you can change the dosage easily. In the summer I can add more to each glass of water (I use a pint glass) but in the winter I only need half a scoop. It can also be added to other drinks so if you're making cold-infused fruit/herbal tea you can easily add some electrolytes. I find that when I drink a lot of plain water I end up waking in the night both thirsty and needing to pee. Adding electrolytes means I absorb the water and stay much better hydrated.

Cheeseandapple · 01/02/2019 07:37

Hi everyone, lost my mojo with the thread a bit this week but have been KOKO.

Mainly plain yogurt for breakfast and then combinations of broccoli, cheese, sausages coleslaw, salad for lunch and supper. Lots of water too, no snacking.

I've gained 4lbs as of this morning. Is that just a week 3 thing? 😕

Dia12 · 01/02/2019 07:48

Ah I had this one in my amazon basket @StuntNun but ended up buying the ones from Aldi. I'll have to buy that next.

You're right, avoiding the sweeteners is far better. I've been doing that this time around and I think it's really helping make a difference in my cravings for sugar.

Rshard · 01/02/2019 07:49

Blimey @mrskoala, hope the dust begins to settle a bit today.

BIWI · 01/02/2019 08:02

So @MrsKoala, your 'D'H is going off to Japan in 10 days' time. Who does he think is going to care for his dad then?

You need to deal with this pretty quickly, and get your FIL back into his home. You can't be left to deal with this on top of everything else. What was your 'D'H thinking? He wasn't thinking about you, was he?

OP posts:
SlinkyDinkyDoo · 01/02/2019 08:31

Interesting about the electrolyte replacement. I was up twice in the night needing a wee and thirsty. Drinking plenty. stuntnun do you fin it's better to take at a certain time of day?

Anybody meal planning for next week? I've got an online shop booked but feeling uninspired. Have time to add to it so any ideas greatly received, particulary fish/seafood as I feel I've been too meat heavy the last few weeks.

BIWI · 01/02/2019 08:39

If you're still thirsty after drinking lots of water it is, apparently, a sign that you need more sodium - so electrolytes are a good idea. (Just make sure that they don't contain sugar)

@SlinkyDinkyDoo - how about kedgeree? You can make that with cauliflower rice - I think there's a recipe on the Bootcamp fish recipe thread. Otherwise one of my favourites is salmon fillet, marinated in ginger, garlic, lemon and sesame oil, then wrapped in foil and baked for 15 minutes or so - serve with some stir-fried (low carb!) veg.

nowlook · 01/02/2019 08:48

@SlinkyDinkyDoo I like my fish uncomplicated (because I'm a rubbish cook and petrified of fish bones). Prawn and vegetable curry with cauliflower rice; tuna burgers with melted cheese and celeriac chips. I've seen a recipe on the thread for scallops with cream and pesto sauce which I might try next week.

nowlook · 01/02/2019 08:52

I'll be having variations on a theme next week if it's still so cold. Omelette for lunch; meat with veg and a creamy sauce for supper. Best thing I've had over the last couple of weeks was chicken thighs and mushroom sauce with braised baby gem lettuce and broccoli.

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 01/02/2019 08:55

Kedgegree! Never even thought of that. Prawn and veg curry sounds good too.

Iamnotacerealkiller · 01/02/2019 10:20

Sorry, haven't posted in a while as we are going through our normal post christmas birthday marathon and everyone is visiting everyone. had a failure over the last weekend as the meal i planned to order had been changed to include potato and i just agreed and then couldn't resist! Otherwise done ok but probably not perfect as i've been eating a lot of other people's food and mystery carbs most likely in the form of gravy, dressing etc.

Once birthday left this weekend and its my little boy's first so im planning on doing the hosting fortunately. Will be off for a shop shortly to buy steak, salad ingredients, ploughmans (minus the bread for me) and whatever else. been living off soup, eggs and cheese for the last few days so need to get a bit more creative. Don't have much of an appetite though.

Iamnotacerealkiller · 01/02/2019 10:22

Oh, yes the potato did through me out of ketosis but got back on it sharpish so had a mini carb flu as punishment for my transgressions. so fed up of hanging around this weight, must do better!
