Week 3 - Low Carb Bootcamp - which way will you go?

BIWI · 28/01/2019 08:45

Morning all

Here's the spreadsheet

So a few mixed results so far. Hopefully there will be some more good ones on the spreadsheet!

I suspect that what a lot of you are coming to realise is that this isn't a way of eating that can allow you to cheat or even to take your eye off the ball.

In this initial phase, while we're aiming to become fat-adapted, it's really important that you keep your carbs as low as you can (within sensible limits - this is not a a zero carb diet - you should be eating enough veg and salad to get good nutrition, which will mean you're eating carbs)

I know that sometimes it's impossible. I'm in a situation where tonight I'm being cooked for, by people who have no idea I'm low carbing, and who haven't asked if there's anything I can/can't eat - so I'll just have to accept it. But whilst it's within your control, you really do need to stay strong.

Now.

This is the start of the infamous week 3 (and next week, week 4) - and it's very, very, VERY common for weight loss to stop - or sometimes even for people to gain slightly, even if they're following the rules.

So. You can decide to stay on Bootcamp if you want to, to help deal with this, or you could move onto Bootcamp Light, which means you can start to add some fruit, some nuts and seeds and some alcohol back into your diet.

The operative word is 'some'! All in moderation - and not at every meal, every day - because this will mean that you won't see the weight loss you want to.

There are three options:

  • stay on Bootcamp
  • move to Bootcamp Light
  • choose a hybrid - Bootcamp during the week, Bootcamp Light at the weekend

Whatever you choose, I hope that you have a good, positive and successful week. Flowers

@BIWI the home kicked Gil out. That’s what precipitated this. They couldn’t cope with his violent behaviour and SS told them to call an ambulance and send him to a&e saying he needed a mental health assessment and then he would have to be hospitalised till they found a more suitable home.

The reason he was so violent tho was because he wanted to go home and dh has said he has really settled , slept and eaten well since he got back last night. But he is settled because she’s is there. If he was alone, even with 4 careers a day popping in I suspect he would wander and be a danger to himself.

Dh is in denial as usual and I get lumbered with everything. I know I sound selfish but i am concerned this will be the beginning of more and more work for me. I don’t see any happy ending her regardless of what happens. All the homes are 1-2 hours away and dh wants to go twice a week. Which means the whole weekend he would be missing anyway.

Fil is fit and late 70s so this could go on 10 more years.

I was up ranting in my head at 3am. Then when I got undressed I noticed I could see all my ribs, so I hopped on the scales and have lost 2 more lb. That makes half a stone now. (Not sure if the head ranting is burning more fat!)

Thanks everyone for the kind thoughts. I don’t really post much personal stuff anymore as it seems to piss people off.

BIWI · 01/02/2019 10:34

I don't think you sound selfish at all @MrsKoala! But I do think your DH is not considering you and how all of this is going to land on you. I bet he hasn't even considered cancelling his trip to Japan, has he? No doubt he'll tell you that he can't, it's important, work won't let him, blah blah blah.

Flowers @MrsKoala. I do think adrenaline can burn off fat, as long as the accompanying stress doesn't send you towards cake! Hopefully your DH will come to see sense after the initial reaction wears off.

My paltry (in comparison) problem is that my sugar cravings are still so bloody strong. And today I am in an office with loads of sugary, carby meeting catering hanging about. I've been successfully ignoring the danish pastries since 8am but in about 30 minutes the mid morning muffins are being delivered. Followed by the lovely carb filled baguettes for lunch... Sad

MrsKoala · 01/02/2019 10:45

I feel for you Shagging, I once had a job as a receptionist and I absolutely ballooned from a size 10 to an 18 in a matter of months due to the ridiculous amount of pastry’s and boredom I had to endure. Keep strong. Go and squirt fairy liquid on them and then flounce off with a face of victory! (Don’t really do that btw) Grin

I google photos of women I think are beautiful when I need a bit of motivation. I'm binge watching Suits at the moment so Sarah Rafferty is my go-to. Also Jessica Chastain.

I look nothing like either of them and never will of course!

Rshard · 01/02/2019 11:43

Cakes in my office today too. I have ignored and now in the train heading to a meeting so successfully avoided!

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 01/02/2019 12:07

Well done @Rshard . I have 32 assorted muffins 3.7 metres away from my right elbow. I'm telling myself that they were baked in a rat infested factory by lice ridden bakers and transported here in a chemical toilet.

prettybird · 01/02/2019 12:09

With the cold weather, I've been struggling to drink enough water Blush As a result plus a blip last week Blush my weight is hovering a few pounds above where I'd got to last week Sad

I think I might copy the habit of a friend of @AthelstaneTheUnready and make myself a flask of tepid water to have drinkable water ready at all times.

StuntNun · 01/02/2019 12:25

Prettybird have you ever tried hot water, as in just plain water from the kettle in a mug? I quite like the taste and it's easier to drink thank tap water in cold weather.

Slinky definitely give the electrolytes a try as it sounds like you're in the same boat as me. It's important to drink regularly through the day. If you down a pint of water at a time then you might not be able to absorb it quickly enough and it will go straight to your bladder.

Dia I cut out sweeteners entirely and now that I'm off them I really notice the difference. I was kidding myself that I was okay with a diet Coke every now and then. Now that I'm free of them I can feel the effect on my gut the next day.

I'm jealous of you lot eating cauliflower with gay abandon. Nobody else in my family will touch the stuff so it doesn't seem worth buying it just for me.

LazydaysofSummer · 01/02/2019 12:48

@Stuntnun I get a whole Cauli, and gerally do roast cauli one day, cauli cheese the next then blitz up what's left and freeze in separate cauli rice portions, nothing wasted and handy to have to hand.
I even blitzed up some broccoli that was starting to yellow and froze that, this WOE has massively reduced my food waste.

Food for the last two days has been just dinner as I was working away that meant leaving super early, getting home late with the offer of just a sandwich during the day. I wasn't hungry so it was easier to just refuse, so two fast days for me unintentionally!

Back to normal today
B: Scrambled Egg
L: Tuna mayo with small side salad
D: Slow cooked chicken curry, with cauli rice from the freezer!

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 01/02/2019 13:06

I also second drinking hot water, that's how I drink all water unless I'm at the gym. I also like water flavoured with cucumber.

prettybird · 01/02/2019 14:09

It's boiling the kettle that is the pain Grin

If I'm boiling it, I'll make rooibos - but it means that I need to think about drinking rather than just drinking when I feel like it iyswim Confused

AandL · 01/02/2019 14:21

I put lime, mint leaves and cucumber in my 1L water bottle, makes it actually nice to drink!

B Very small dregs of pot greek yogurt with cinnamon and crunchy flaxseed. Large creamy coffee.
L leftover boeuf bourginon and cauli mash
D Steak and salad

Am going to try I. F on my says off, so sat, sun, weds, and see if it helps weightloss. Am I right in that black coffee pre meal 1 is OK but not coffee with double cream?

MrsTerryPratcett · 01/02/2019 14:39

It's boiling the kettle that is the pain

Buy a water boiler. Changed my life.

Week 3 - Low Carb Bootcamp - which way will you go?
Haworthia · 01/02/2019 14:40

The scales aren’t my friend this week. Somehow I am 2lb heavier than Sunday 🤷‍♀️

Glad people liked the Delia cauliflower cheese I posted yesterday! Tonight we’re having slow cooker fakeaway Doner Kebab, which I’ve been wanting to try for ages... years even. I’ll have mine with salad but DH is allowed pita of course. He’s started Dechox today so won’t be stuffing chocolate and treats under my nose this month Grin

m0therofdragons · 01/02/2019 16:15

I'm tired and grumpy. Snow meant I was working until 11pm last night the back to work at 6am (from home initially then in at 8am). I love my job but I'm exhausted. I was supposed to go home at 3pm yesterday. Was hoping to leave at 4.30pm today but am waiting on a director. Danger of falling into fish and chips this evening.

prettybird · 01/02/2019 16:19

Haworthia - I posted a recipe in the veggie recipe section for very nice flatbreads (from Tom Kerridge's Dopamine Diet book) which might work well with doner kebabs Smile

Haworthia · 01/02/2019 17:20

Ooh, interesting, thanks @prettybird

There’s nothing stopping me knocking up some fathead dough either, as it goes. It just didn’t occur to me!

Mimosa1 · 01/02/2019 17:39

,

Had a nice day today as had the afternoon off work and took myself for a facial. It looks like I've lost 500g, I hope it sticks for Monday.

Haworthia · 01/02/2019 17:48

I’ve just found some forgotten Christmas Brazil nuts at the back of a cupboard! My Friday night is looking up.

My main thought though, was sadness because it isn’t December and that means I can’t eat loads of them. But then I checked the back of the packet and they’re only 3.1g carbs per 100g. I’ll be getting the kitchen scales out later.

I thought you meant from your facial, Mimosa1!

prettybird · 01/02/2019 18:32

I read it that way too! Grin

1stMrsF · 01/02/2019 18:37

I'm in a cab on my way to a posh hotel. I'm nominated for an industry award and the awards dinner is tonight!! I've perused menu carefully and shouldn't be too bad food wise. However there will be some wine drunk especially if I win!

ShagMeRiggins · 01/02/2019 18:38

MrsF good luck and enjoy!

RedemptiveCrocodile · 01/02/2019 19:07

Good luck!

B: water, water, and water plus redbush tea
L: leftover dinner of bolognaise sauce over roasted broccoli
D: tuna mayo salad

I'm back to IF, 16:8
