Week 3 - Low Carb Bootcamp - which way will you go?

Morning all

Here's the spreadsheet

So a few mixed results so far. Hopefully there will be some more good ones on the spreadsheet!

I suspect that what a lot of you are coming to realise is that this isn't a way of eating that can allow you to cheat or even to take your eye off the ball.

In this initial phase, while we're aiming to become fat-adapted, it's really important that you keep your carbs as low as you can (within sensible limits - this is not a a zero carb diet - you should be eating enough veg and salad to get good nutrition, which will mean you're eating carbs)

I know that sometimes it's impossible. I'm in a situation where tonight I'm being cooked for, by people who have no idea I'm low carbing, and who haven't asked if there's anything I can/can't eat - so I'll just have to accept it. But whilst it's within your control, you really do need to stay strong.

Now.

This is the start of the infamous week 3 (and next week, week 4) - and it's very, very, VERY common for weight loss to stop - or sometimes even for people to gain slightly, even if they're following the rules.

So. You can decide to stay on Bootcamp if you want to, to help deal with this, or you could move onto Bootcamp Light, which means you can start to add some fruit, some nuts and seeds and some alcohol back into your diet.

The operative word is 'some'! All in moderation - and not at every meal, every day - because this will mean that you won't see the weight loss you want to.

There are three options:

  • stay on Bootcamp
  • move to Bootcamp Light
  • choose a hybrid - Bootcamp during the week, Bootcamp Light at the weekend

Whatever you choose, I hope that you have a good, positive and successful week. Flowers

It does! Just had an amazing lunch of roasted cauliflower cheese.

However, I'm FUMING. All these years of being lied to. Flour be gone! The cheese sauce I just made was just as nice, if not better than the traditional one. So easy to make too, no faffing and no lumps.

That lunch has made me feel really happy 😃

Checking in.
L - chilli with salad and coleslaw
D - salmon with red cabbage and cauliflower cheese (need to see if I can persude my mother who is cooking to try it as above. That was good timing Slinky)
Doing better with water today
KOKO

Hi all, would anyone be kind enough to share any stories of hormones being "released" on this woe? I'm having some breakthrough bleeding which is definitely not normal for me. I'll go to the GP if it carries on but I'm a bit concerned.

AandL · 31/01/2019 16:23

Still same on scales this morning, grr.
Not enough veg or water yet today either.
Cold & pissy rain in Dublin

B serrano ham, scrambled eggs, grated cheese, creamy coffee
L smoked salmon and cream cheese
S some nuts, bit cheese + pate, small creamy coffee
D www.savorytooth.com/instant-pot-beef-bourguignon/
With cauli mash, will do spinach too to up veg.

Katinkka · 31/01/2019 17:05

On my period. I am soooo hungry. Hope it passes! Teatime soon. Woohoo.

BIWI · 31/01/2019 17:30

@Katinkka - if you're hungry, eat something!

Can I ask a quick question....on ingredients lists on packets, when you're looking at carb counts, do you look at total carbs or just the 'of which sugars' bit?

I bought some organic cacao powder to go with my Greek yogurt. The total carbs are 26g per 100g, of which sugars is 0.6g. I'm not that bothered about having it if it's too high.

Going well this week, but I've had more of an appetite today and wonder if it's down to the extreme cold. I'd lost another half a pound when I hopped on the scales this morning, so just one more pound to hit 3 stones off. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻

nowlook · 31/01/2019 17:46

@tootstastic

I think it's the overall carb count.

But...how much were you thinking of adding? Grin
A sprinkling isn't even going to be 5g, is it?

tootstastic · 31/01/2019 17:48

Yes just a sprinkling

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 31/01/2019 17:49

Loving the cauli cheese recipe. We often eat it as a main meal with mushrooms and bacon added so a flour free alternative is great.

I haven't weighed myself again since Monday's disaster but I am successfully wearing trousers today that I rejected a month ago for making me look particularly lumpen.

BIWI · 31/01/2019 18:32

NSV for me today. DH bought me an unusual ring for Christmas - 4 separate silver rings which you're supposed to wear together. He was very proud of himself as he'd measured one of my other rings, to get the size. But when I tried them on, they were too tight. Today I'm wearing all four Smile. Not quite sure if I'm going to get them off, but at least I got them on!

KiteMarked · 31/01/2019 18:35

I have a similar NSV today too! My hands and fingers get puffy very quickly when putting on weight, and I'm back to wearing my wedding rings again. :)

tootstastic · 31/01/2019 18:36

@BIWI how lovely, victories like that are such a nice surprise when they happen.

nowlook · 31/01/2019 18:59

Likewise, I tried on a pair of my favourite holiday trousers. Yes, I had the mother of all camel toes, but I managed to do them up nonetheless. Going in the right direction!

ShagMeRiggins · 31/01/2019 19:46

Well done for NSVs.

Stacked rings—even when the same size—will feel tighter when closer to the knuckle. They’re sized for the base of the finger, not the middle.

So really, that’s an extra well done.

ShagMeRiggins · 31/01/2019 19:47

the mother of all camel toes

Allow me to suggest a tunic. And well done.

Burnshersmurfs · 31/01/2019 19:52

Mimosa- same thing happened to me. Hung around for a bit, and has gone now.

Mimosa1 · 31/01/2019 19:57

Thanks @Burnshersmurfs

Rshard · 31/01/2019 20:18

Loving the nsv’s! Your rings sound lovely @BIWI.

Ha ha at the mother of all camel toes!!

Dh and I popped for some dinner while dd was swimming at a local bar/cafe. Lots of ‘small plates’ low carb options, I struggled to narrow it down to three!

MrsKoala · 31/01/2019 20:38

Very stressful here today. I planned my food really well and did a slow cooker goulash then DH came home and stole almost all of it and left for god knows how long.

Fil broke his hip before xmas and his dementia has worsened so he's been put in a home, But he has become violent so they keep calling us and today DH has snapped and left work, came home, packed stuff and took food, took fil from the home and has said he's going to take him back to his flat and move in with him and care for him full time.

I must admit i'm on my second glass of white wine and no dinner.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 31/01/2019 20:46

Shock MrsK! But... is that even a possibility, nevermind that he hasn't discussed anything with you!

BIWI · 31/01/2019 20:59

How on earth is DH going to manage that as well as going to work @MrsKoala? Shock

Surely he can't. And please don't tell me he's going to burden you with that?

AthelstaneTheUnready · 31/01/2019 21:08

MrsK, I have to head off - but will be hoping that some rationality returns to your DH tomorrow when the blow-out calms down a bit. Flowers

NorthernKnickers · 31/01/2019 21:14

I have 'the gurgles'. Has anyone else had this? None stop gurgling (it's making me laugh 😂). I'm not hungry, so no idea why this internal, musical cacophony is carrying on! Been going on all night now...same thing happened last night too 🤦‍♀️ I'm guessing it's just some kind of digestive settling issues 🤷‍♀️ Probably just as well I live alone!

BIWI · 31/01/2019 21:42

I don't know what it means @NorthernKnickers (maybe @StuntNun does?!) but I always think that's a good sign. Seems to kick in when I'm being particularly 'good'!
