January 2019 Low Carb Bootcamp - Week 1

BIWI · 14/01/2019 00:59

Well happy new year!

Here's a sparkling, brand new, Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for us all to get this new Bootcamp off to a good start.

Remember, you don't have to be on the spreadsheet if you don't want to - and if you don't want to declare your actual weight, you can index it - which means that your starting 'weight' is 100. Then for every pound you lose, you take off one. So if you lose 4lbs in week 1, then your 'weight' starting for week 2 will be 96.

There are over 170 people signed up, so the thread will move very quickly - but please, please, please read all the posts. Don't just jump on and post your own stuff without reading what other people have posted. That's especially the case if you're posting with a question - read the thread to make sure it hasn't already been asked.

Have a good look at the spreadsheet and all the tabs at the bottom, as there's a huge amount of information there - not just the rules, but also the list of vegetable carb counts, and some really interesting reading/videos too.

I hope everything there is clear, but if not - just shout.

Looking forward to getting going!

bibliomania - I can't/won't get rid of my microwave - it is too useful for making buttery microwaved brussels or buttery microwaved cabbage or buttery microwaved cauliflower Smile

To the extent that dh now has to cook his oven chips in the main oven rather than in the small (combi) oven, so that it is free for me to microwave the veg that I have instead of chips Grin

BIWI · 16/01/2019 12:47

@MrsKoala - olives are fine, and walnut oil is OK too! (Now, you don't have to wait)

prettybird · 16/01/2019 12:51

Olives are fine, as is walnut oil. It is walnuts that are not allowed during the 1st 2 weeks.

Rshard · 16/01/2019 13:14

I thought the same prettybird about microwaving brussels!

I’m a converted daily weighed, having always been weekly probably from attendance over the years at WW etc. Always weigh first thing, naked and after the loo as pp have said. I thought daily weighing would derail me if I didn’t see a tiny loss but it actually spurs me on

nowlook · 16/01/2019 13:16

Afternoon all!

Just trying to plan for next week as I'm away overnight with work about 4 hours away from home. I'm not worried about the hotel element for the evening meal and breakfast the following day, but I'm travelling first thing in the morning and will then be in a portacabin for lunch with the usual array of petrol-station sandwiches and crisps (it's the glamour of the job...)

No access to a fridge or microwave, so any recommendations for things I can make in advance for breakfast and lunch that will survive well on the journey?

At the moment, I'm thinking hardboiled eggs, raw spinach, cheese, but wondered if any of you have had success with leftovers eaten at room temperature the next day. Although food poisoning might help short-term progress, I've decided to try and avoid it for now.

Onlyaprawn · 16/01/2019 13:23

Thanks for the avocado tip @bibliomania, I'll give that a try. Just had a delicious lunch of some turkey mince that I fried up with shallots, paprika and oregano, mixed with mayo when cooled and eaten in little gem leaves. Need to crack on with my water consumption now though.

CantstandmLMs · 16/01/2019 13:24

Hi guys. Haven't been able to add my weight to the spreadsheet on my phone. Just keeps taking me to the App Store even though I have sheets and then when I open it the file doesn't appear...I'll look later on my laptop!

Anyway first full week last week and lost 2.5lb which I'm happy with!

Been finding it easier as I've gone along. Cravings for carbs have subsided dramatically. I'm fasting 16 hours a day which helps also and this morning I did a fasted gym class. Haven't been able to eat yet but have to say I am hungry!

prettybird · 16/01/2019 13:27

I too am a daily weigher. Dh complains that the new, Salter scales are "bad" because he can't get a consistent reading from them. Yet I found that as long as I put the scales in a specific spot I can get a consistent reading ( +/- 0.25lb).

I find the daily weighing helps keep me focussed: if I'm up, it reminds me to up my water and fat intake and constrain snacking (even if they are HFLC snacks Wink) Grin

So far this week I've lost 2lb Smile - hopefully that will "stick" until next Monday, although the weekend away might cause me problems (more with drinking enough water)

SheldonTheWonderShlong · 16/01/2019 13:46

Thanks MrsKoala that was me. I buy the cartons of egg whites (great to add in a bit more volume to an omlette) so should be fine. Annoyingly I forgot the cream cheese. Just been shopping Angry

Ahhh well something for next week.

bibliomania · 16/01/2019 14:02

I ruined all my efforts with some badly decorated biscuits

Poor MrsFiona, that somehow adds insult to injury!

Haworthia · 16/01/2019 14:10

I made cloud eggs for breakfast, which were lovely, but I ate three and have felt sick ever since. When will I learn that my egg limit is two? 🤢

I’ve popped a couple of peppermint capsules and am keeping up with the water, but I don’t think lunch is going to happen.

CassieStuart · 16/01/2019 14:14

Just had an amazing soup I made from the veggie recipes page. The idiot proof diet Curried Cauliflower Soup. I omitted the cream and instead had a small sprinkling of parmesan cheese.

It was one of the tastiest things I have eaten in a long time, and something which if I wasn't doing this WOE I would have ever considered making.

Can definitely recommend it to everyone who is looking for something tasty and different

BIWI · 16/01/2019 14:19

@CassieStuart can I ask why you omitted the cream? And why only a 'small' sprinkling of Parmesan? Please don't tell me you're worried about the fat!

Decided to get order some scales. I think I need the weekly motivation.

Should arrive by Monday, will have to take the reading with a pinch of salt though as logged my start weight as what I weighed a few weeks ago on someone else's scales.

CassieStuart · 16/01/2019 14:37

@biwi it's because yesterday you said I'd need to keep an eye on the cream and cheese amounts. So as I've been having cream in my coffee and had eggs mashed with Boursin for breakfast I didn't want to overdo the dairy. I did fry the leeks in lots of butter and then added a dollop extra for luck to up the fat content though.

bluelefant · 16/01/2019 14:38

Hi everyone,
Posting for the first time on this Bootcamp as it's moving so fast I tried to catch up and read all of it and it took me 2 days 😆
So thank you(better late than never, right?) @BIWI and @AthelstaneTheUnready for organising it!I love reading it,it's very motivational.
First 2 days were successful and I already seen 2lb down on a scales.
I am also a daily weigher like quite a few of you.

Laska2Meryls · 16/01/2019 14:44

H/m turkey and LC veg soup for lunch followed by a ton of sardines in chilli olive oil.... Weird but good Grin

Dinner to be decided but I have the rest of a Savoy cabbage to eat up.. may have it SF with pork mince and mushrooms

Laska2Meryls · 16/01/2019 14:46

Tin of sardines .. a ton may be a few too many even for a lchf woe ! Grin

MrsTerryPratcett · 16/01/2019 14:53

No one's scales hate them as much as mine hate me! Got on, one pound loss, yay. Oh but low battery. Replace battery, four pound gain, shit. Get on again, half pound loss!

WTA?

MrsTerryPratcett · 16/01/2019 14:56

And I dreamed about eating crisps last night. Carb dreams?

tootstastic · 16/01/2019 15:09

Oh yes a few of us had carb dreams on the last bootcamp. Mine involved stuffing my face with Chinese crispy won ton and chicken balls...felt totally guilty and panicked when I woke up.

bluelefant · 16/01/2019 15:13

I go on my scales as many times as needed to get the same result twice Grin and it gets noted as my official result.

WillYouDoTheFandango · 16/01/2019 15:14

I went to get ice cream in my dream but even dream me remembered she was doing keto before she took her first lick and didn't do it Sad Not even a dream cheat, that's dedication!

LazydaysofSummer · 16/01/2019 15:19

Hubby has decided to join me with this WOE, which I think should make things easier, especially as we're both doing dry Jan too. I was hoping the weight would fall off once I wasn't drinking but no such luck, I actually put weight on since New Year, so this BC is perfect timing/motivation to address the weight properly. Thanks.
Yesterday
B: Scrambled eggs with butter
L: Ham salad with mayo
D: Steak with asparagus, roast cauli with cumin, Kale fried in butter with chilli flakes and garlic mushrooms (All very yummy)

Today
B: Avacado and tea
L: Tuna salad with Mayo
D: Slow cooked Pork Bellly with soy, chilli, garlic and ginger served with stir fry veg.

All with lots of water, and daily HIIT classes.

venusandmars · 16/01/2019 15:26

nowlook these tuna pots are tasty, don't need to be drained, and are re-sealable if you get a larger size. But you need to watch which variety you choose, some are 0.1g car, other are 10g carb. Last time I was low-carbing I took mayonnaise sachets with me for lunches away (you can buy helmman's on amazon). I'd take salad in a Tupperware, and always an avocado. Tuna, avocado, salad and mayo - perfect.
