Week 7 - Low Carb Bootcamp - Only 4 weeks to go ...

Morning campers

Here's the spreadsheet

So there are only four more weeks to go before we reach the finish line. But still time, if you're keeping to the rules, to lose another 4-8lbs - so possibly another half a stone!

It's a tricky time of year, though, as we hurtle towards Christmas, and the parties and drinks and chocolates start to make their appearance. I don't know about anyone else, but I have That Dress that I need to make sure I fit into, so that's keeping me focused.

Hope you all have a good week.

Bluelefant that looks okay - apart from the coffee with sugar. You don't snack which is a good sign. The most common culprits for weight loss stalls are not drinking enough water, or not eating enough fat (adding 1-2 tbsp extra butter or olive oil per day can help.) Portion size can also be an issue as a lot of people end up subconsciously restricting their calories and eating too little, which paradoxically scuppers weight loss. Another way to boost weight loss is to introduce intermittent fasting, aiming for a 16-hour fast between dinner and breakfast.

BIWI, it’s so hard to avoid when you’re nowhere near a shop and being catered for.

I’m still plugging away. Not seeing much difference - trousers from last year fit ok but still a couple of skirts I’d like to get back into. It’s felt much harder for me this time compared to last year.
I’m enjoying the food but I think I’ve become a bit too reliant on cream as my fat - my creamy coffees have increased from 1 to 4 per day. Blush

bluelefant · 27/11/2018 08:11

Thank you StuntNun
I tried to give up sugar in my coffee many times and failed.I just hate the taste!I'd rather give up coffee altogether.
Will try and be really strict this week and see if the scales move a bit down again to pass my "bouncing" point Hmm

Have been experimenting with some new dishes, on the logic that if I'm tinkering around with sage and thyme, I'm not thinking about confectionary. Dug out Hugh F-W's Vegetables book, and have made cabbage parcels and roasted Brussels sprouts. My digestive system doesn't know what's hit it.

@StuntNun , with the intermittent fasting (16 hours between dinner and breakfast ) I’m assuming you cut down to just the 2 main meals ?
So breakfast at 11am
Dinner at 6-30 ?
Sounds doable

Menu for today
B slice of cheese , pork scratchings ( for the crunch )
L 2 egg omlette with mushrooms , butter and cheese
D Roast chicken thigh ( complete with skin ) cauli cheese , and other green veg
Seeing it written down , is it too much cheese ?

I can make cauliflower rice , and a spicy tomato sauce instead

I asked DH what he wanted for dinner ( my day off today ) and he wants something healthy and low fat ... rolls eyes 👀

StuntNun · 27/11/2018 13:19

Yes that's right Tourist you don't need to do it every day - just three times a week for a minimum of 14 hours each time is enough to start getting health benefits. I find that if I intermittent fast i.e. skip breakfast then I'm much less hungry for the rest of the day whereas when I eat breakfast I end up snacking all day.

Doilooklikeatourist · 27/11/2018 13:25

Ah thanks @StuntNun
Intermittent fasting = posh way of skipping breakfast
Will give that a go tomorrow

On Day 2 of my Egg Fast. Fortunately I like eggs!

Boiled eggs for breakfast, boiled eggs mashed up with mayonnaise for lunch and doing different things each evening. Last night was cheese omelette with a generous amount of cheddar cheese. Tonight is frittata (just with Parmesan). Tomorrow I'm planning low carb/cream cheese pancakes with cinnamon.

Snacks have been bits of salted butter, teaspoons of clotted cream (to reach my quota of one tablespoon fat per egg) and a couple of slices of cheddar and Emmenthal.

I've given myself a bit of a talking-to and realised sitting in the corner sulking isn't going to achieve anything, so... Doubling down again, with new resolve.

I had a bad few days a couple of weeks ago, when I kept having hypos (v low blood sugars) and having to eat carbs to treat them, and it sent me all to hell. Anyway, I think I've got it all back under control, but I'm back at my starting weight for this BC. Bloody annoying. Especially as it's only a couple of weeks till I go away.

So, scrambled eggs and bacon for breakfast, and dinner tonight was pulled pork shoulder (minus the barbecue sauce) with mashed celeriac, which was lovely. (I got up late, so there wasn't space for lunch as well).

prettybird · 27/11/2018 18:58

Glad you're back and focussed abbey Smile

Your food today sounds lovely.

Are you having your water? Hmm

BIWI · 27/11/2018 21:29

Never mind, @abbey44 - two weeks still gives you time to lose more before you go! And let's face it, you do face a more significant challenge than most other Bootcampers.

I was a bit worried you could only eat eggs on their own when you first mentioned the egg fast @prettybird...I had visions of that boiled egg scene from Cool Hand Luke 😝

Glad it's a bit more interesting than that! How does it work then?

Week 7 - Low Carb Bootcamp - Only 4 weeks to go ...
Wildheartsease · 27/11/2018 21:51

I loved that film toots!

abbey44 · 27/11/2018 21:54

I am getting my full quota of water prettybird - up every hour and a half during the night as a result. I try to think of it as flushing the fat out.

That egg fast sounds interesting - I guess you'd have to love eggs to do it. I'm another one who's interested to know how it works.

tootstastic · 28/11/2018 08:02

@Wildheartsease me too, but the thought of all those eggs made me gag 🤢

Littleorangetree · 28/11/2018 08:03

Feeling bloomin' awful this morning - have come down with a heavy cold. Hopefully it won't last too long because I've got too many things to do at the moment to be ill!

I'm not sure if I would manage an egg fast prettybird - I don't mind eggs in small doses, but I get easily put off them for some reason. I think it's the texture rather than the taste.

God knows what I'm going to be eating today because my cupboards are bare (can you tell I'm in a complete grump this morning?) Grin

tootstastic · 28/11/2018 08:06

Sorry you're not feeling well @Littleorangetree. Can you crawl to the local shop for some low carb snackettes and spend the day snuggled on the sofa watching old films?

Kleptronic · 28/11/2018 08:38

Hey you guys. What with my swings and roundabouts I've only lost two pounds this bootcamp, but weirdly I think I've changed shape. I've upped my running and I'm still going horse riding so maybe I've lost fat and gained muscle. My belly's smaller and I go in at the waist!

StuntNun · 28/11/2018 08:41

The egg fast works because eggs are incredibly satiating and it's difficult to eat more than about eight in a day. Basically you can only eat eggs and for each egg you have to eat one tablespoon of fat and up to one ounce of cheese. Cheese should be kept as low as possible but it makes the egg fast easier if you can have a cheese omelette for one of your meals. The egg fast was designed for Jimmy Moore who was struggling to lose weight on a normal low carb diet; that's why one of the original rules was to eat an egg within 30 minutes of waking - to keep his blood glucose level under control. The egg fast is a quick way to lose weight as you can lose about 3 lb in three days but I have concerns about the low protein intake on the egg fast. Looking at the macros I would expect a better result from adding 200-250g meat or fish per day.

Collectorofcookbooks · 28/11/2018 10:04

Gah, posted a long message then the page reloaded and I lost it!

Am in awe of the egg-fasters. I don't think I could do that. And I like eggs.

Went to the gym last night for the first time in 3 weeks. Feel better for it but a bit sore this morning!

What do we make of pumpkin seeds? Found some in the back of the cupboard and wondering if they're a good snack in times of desperation - have quite a few meetings coming up which, like you @BIWI, are on site. Figure if I have something in the car then I can keep going!

Collectorofcookbooks · 28/11/2018 10:06

Good news on the waistline @Kleptronic!

Hope you feel better soon @LittleOrangeTree - colds suck. Soup?

Rshard · 28/11/2018 11:07

Sorry I’ve been a bit absent, have been reading the thread though.

Life’s a bit frantic and it’s affecting my focus a bit. I need to koko, lovely to read about everyone’s sv’s and nsv’s

Justmuddlingalong · 28/11/2018 13:07

After getting to my target of 9.5st thanks to previous bootcamps, I'm still following this WOE. I'm bang on target today but fluctuate by a lb or 2. My heart doesn't sink if the scales show a small gain, I know it'll even itself out, because I know I'm sticking to the plan. If you keep on chipping away a lb at a time, it's amazing the results you'll get. KOKO everyone.
