Week 6: Onwards and downwards into the 2nd half

BIWI has asked me to start this week's Boot Camp thread as she is away in New York and therefore 5 hours behind (and you lot would be champing at the bit by the time she was up and able to post Wink)

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here Remember that it is full of resources, as well as a means of tracking your downward Wink trajectory.

Hopefully, those of you who have been here from the start of this Boot Camp will now be getting used to this Way of Eating (if you weren't already) and are now over any cases of carb flu. If you'd suffered from the notorious Weeks 3, 4 and sometimes even Week 5 stalls, you should now, as long as you KOKOed, be seeing the scales moving downwards again Smile

Remember too that there are lots of lovely recipes available in the pinned threads (and the desserts one, which isn't pinned). No excuses for not eating fabulously on this Way of Eating Grin

Hi

Please can I check in for some advice? I'm not on this BC but have lost about 1.5 stone on BC since last Sept. I'm now at maintenance. Well, thought I was

Before October half term my weight had crept up. So I knocked alcohol on the head and killed 5lbs in about 10 days. V happy. Sorted. Had a very carby half term and I'm still dealing with that! So I've knocked alcohol on the head again but nothing is happening. In fact yesterday I put on 1.5 lbs!

I'm a daily weigher and I find my weight doesn't fluctuate. If I eat on plan it goes down, if I eat off plan it goes up. Simples.

Yesterday I had left over paneer curry (lowest carb coconut milk) for lunch and in the evening home made kebab with cheese, mayo and cabbage. (I nicked cheese as I made the kids lunch) Surely that doesn't equal 1.5 lbs on?! Oh and I rowed 7km!!

The day before I had a pizza with 90 second bread (my first ever). But it was small. And a slow cooked chicken thigh dish with the chicken wrapped in bacon in the evening. The kids had fish and chips. I did not. DH had wine. I did not. That day I put on 0.5lb!

Any pointers please x

Wildheartsease · 19/11/2018 08:26

Thanks for this Prettybird

Woosh for me this week! 3lb down is quite something.

I have been particularly careful (more water - more fat - less wine) and more active but was not expecting such a drop.

Special thought: I am no longer obese :) and can stop feeling guilty /personally responsible every time the news mentions 'the obesity crisis'.

prettybird · 19/11/2018 08:42

BrassicaBabe - are you having enough water? Could it be fluid retention as a result of the off-piste eating? And are you having enough fat? Subconsciously, when my weight bobbles upwards and I know it's "my fault", I often try to cut my calories. Instead I make myself have slices of butter Grin

prettybird · 19/11/2018 08:54

Tootstastic - congratulations on your 3lb (posted at the end of the last thread) but puts on stern face , why are you disappointed?

On this WoE, after the initial whoosh, you will lose an average of 1-2lb a week Smile .....like most diets (only it's much more pleasurable and easier than most diets Wink)

So enjoy the bigger than average drop - and remember to look at the overall average. It's also better for your skin if you don't have too big a drop too quickly.

Thank you prettybird After last weeks small gain the scales are moving nicely downward. I have found the tip of a lemon slice in hot water invaluable for the last week or so. So much easier to get my water down now it's cold.
Just need to get a bit more adventurous with my menus now though so off to look at one recipes. have a good week everyone.

Doilooklikeatourist · 19/11/2018 09:59

Stayed the same , which is good , as there was an incident with apple crumble last night .
Got a busy , exciting and expensive week ahead , as DD is graduating, so 2 nights in a hotel , meeting up with DS too , and a couple of celebration meals
So , I think I’ll do the best I can , not miss out, and KOKO as much as possible ( Monday , Tuesday and half of Wednesday will be boot camp for sure )

Collectorofcookbooks · 19/11/2018 10:46

2lbs on this week, but I know why, and also fell into the apple crumble trap yesterday 😀

Back on it!

prettybird · 19/11/2018 11:18

What is it with apple crumble? I had the apple crumble trap 2 weeks ago! Confused

I've now taken over making desserts when we go across to my dad's, so that they are suitably low carb for me Grin (Last night's wasn't very successful - it was Tom Kerridge's yoghurt, cocoa, orange essence, coffee and chia seed "mousse" - a bit claggy Hmm)

OP posts:
tootstastic · 19/11/2018 11:29

@prettybird I've taken your stern face on board about being happy about my 3lbs loss. It's just that I've really only lost 1lb, as lost the first 2lbs the day after weigh-in last week. It feels like I've pretty much weighed the same for a week, despite being totally on it with no cheats since the beginning.

Also, I feel that my general hugeness should mean that I lose more than someone nearer their target weight (starting weight 262lbs), as I have such a large amount to lose.

But you are absolutely right and a loss is still a loss and I am happy with my overall loss of 18.3 lbs. I suppose because i have circa 120 lbs to lose, even 18 lbs feels like a drop in the ocean.

Clearly, patience is a virtue I struggle with and I know it's not possible to lose all this weight overnight. It would be so bleedin nice if we could though, wouldn't it?!!

boldlygoingsomewhere · 19/11/2018 11:30

Apple crumble is very tempting at this time of year. I’m not surprised so many have fallen into the trap. DD wants to make it with me next weekend so I might end up the next to fall. Grin

I’ve reached the point where I’m quite happy with how I look - there is still a bit extra on the tummy but my smaller clothes from last autumn fit again. That is with a couple of higher carb meals. I feel like I’m really starting to understand what my body can tolerate. It’s invaluable as it gives me that bit of flexibility.

prettybird · 19/11/2018 11:39

Tootstastic - I've lost 50lb in c1.5 years (including a couple of falling -off-the-wagons Blush) and have another stone to go.

Someone a few Boot Camps ago said they'd been told something early on in their career that really resonated with them - and it resonated with me and really helps with the patience.

The advise was that even if something is going to take a long time (eg a part time degree - or a diet Wink), then at the end of that period, the time will have passed anyway Grin You can choose either to see some progress over that time - or not to do anything because it would take too long Confused I choose the former Halo

OP posts:
FuriousFifties · 19/11/2018 11:46

50lb, that's flipping amazing.

You all keep me going along this path, thank you.

Rshard · 19/11/2018 11:50

What about thinking about some short term goals @tootastic? Less daunting than looking straight at the end point. A stone could be your first one? The next stone bracket?

tootstastic · 19/11/2018 11:51

@prettybird you've done amazingly well. Yes, I like that idea that the time will pass anyway. I definitely don't like the idea of still being 18st plus in a year or two's time!

I think I'm still in that zone where I think about it all far too much. I will calm the fuck down soon hopefully and just be so used to the WOE that it comes naturally. Fingers crossed that day comes soon 🤞🏻

tootstastic · 19/11/2018 11:55

@Rshard yes, short term goals might help. I could probably do that in terms of events, so much off by my works do etc. I have a ball to go to in jan and I'd quite like the goal of being down a dress size or two by then.

prettybird · 19/11/2018 12:02

I agree Rshard

Tootstastic - you can give yourself a variety of interim targets (so that you can always be close to reaching one of them to motivate yourself Wink): breaking a stone or half stone barrier in your overall weight; breaking a hundred barrier in your overall weight; breaking a 10kg barrier in your overall weight; losing a stone/half stone/multiple stones in the weight lost; losing more than 50lb in total weight lost (Wink); moving from morbidly obese to "just" obese in BMI terms; moving from obese to "just" overweight; moving from overweight to normal BMI Grin NSVs like a particular size, an old item of clothing, a waist measurement Smile

Any and all of these are valid targets that can be set simultaneously so can be celebrated as and when they are achieved Grin

OP posts:
tootstastic · 19/11/2018 12:07

Great ideas, thanks to you both!

It'll give me something else to obsess over, rather than obsessing over the gigantic problem of having over 120lbs to lose.

Rshard · 19/11/2018 12:46

Happy to help @tootastic! That strategy has certainly helped me

Spiderkitty · 19/11/2018 13:20

0.6 of a lb off this week, it's not coming off quickly, but at least it's going in the right direction!

B: Nothing
L: Cheesy courgettes and eggs
D: Not sure yet

Must try and get my water intake up again, I didn't drink nearly enough yesterday!

BrassicaBabe · 19/11/2018 15:44

Thanks pretty. I don't think it's not enough fat and my water intake is about the same as usual (cough. Not enough Grin) Its like my body moves the goal posts every time I find something that work Sad

prettybird · 19/11/2018 15:46

Stop complaining until you are having enough water Grin

...and be thankful that BIWI didn't leave me the Big Stick Wink

OP posts:
BrassicaBabe · 19/11/2018 16:10

GrinGrinGood point. Well made. GrinGrin

prettybird · 19/11/2018 16:17

If it is any consolation, I didn't drink enough water over the weekend and despite doing a 24 hour fast up until supper on Saturday, this morning I was up 1lb Shock I am therefore in denial Blush glugging loads of water today before weighing in formally tomorrow Wink

Don't do as I do, do as I say Grin

OP posts:
Littleorangetree · 19/11/2018 18:09

Thanks for the new thread Prettybird!

I'm 3 lbs down this week, which is great considering it's my TOTM. Has anyone else had worse period pain than usual? I'm hoping it'll calm down again next month as it's been pretty bad for the last couple of days. Ouch!

My next goal is to move from being obese to being overweight(!) which will take another 5.5lbs. I'm hoping to be there by our works Christmas party in Dec, though I'm planning a day off-wagon for that. I'm justifying it to myself because I haven't fallen off the wagon once since the beginning of bootcamp! Grin I've decided to give myself 2 days off over Christmas too, then get back on straight away as I don't want to undo all my hard work.

B: smoked sausage and plain yogurt (not together!)
L: miso soup (didn't have time for proper lunch today, but had a snack when I got home)
D: Chicken, broccoli, cauliflower and courgette with lots of butter and maybe some grated cheese.

Doilooklikeatourist · 19/11/2018 18:59

Good day today
Brunch. Bacon, fried egg and avocado
Dinner. Turkey steak ( I know low fat ) cauli cheese , courgettes , mushrooms and tomatoes, extra creamy sauce ( with cheese and butter )
Loads of water , loads of steps
