BIWI has asked me to start this week's Boot Camp thread as she is away in New York and therefore 5 hours behind (and you lot would be champing at the bit by the time she was up and able to post Wink)

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here Remember that it is full of resources, as well as a means of tracking your downward Wink trajectory.

Hopefully, those of you who have been here from the start of this Boot Camp will now be getting used to this Way of Eating (if you weren't already) and are now over any cases of carb flu. If you'd suffered from the notorious Weeks 3, 4 and sometimes even Week 5 stalls, you should now, as long as you KOKOed, be seeing the scales moving downwards again Smile

Remember too that there are lots of lovely recipes available in the pinned threads (and the desserts one, which isn't pinned). No excuses for not eating fabulously on this Way of Eating Grin

I've been working extra and now onto my second cold of the season.

I'm staying away from lemsips this time Biwi

B: Scrambled Egg 2 x coffee and double cream
L: baby plum tomatoes and loads of mature cheddar cheese, like loads.

Tea will be chicken tikka masala but with Quorn and lots of cream, cauliflour rice and gem lettuce leaves to make wrap things (it's to replace poppadom/naan bread)

prettybird · 23/11/2018 15:45

Wheely - if you have some coconut flour, there is a recipe for flat breads that make decent alternatives to naan bread in the pinned veggie recipe thread (one of the last posts).

If you don't have coconut flour, it's worth getting some Smile (NB: I'm not made keen on coconut but these didn't taste coconutty).

Does double-cream slow down your losses Leapinlizards ? I was hoping it wouldn't as it goes so well with veg.

prettybird · 23/11/2018 19:55

Wildheart - some people find that dairy can stall them. and also, although we don't count calories on this WoE - going totally overboard, especially if you are close to target.

Butter doesn't count though. I can't remember the technical reason.

Should add - dairy doesn't causes stalls in everyone - many of us cope fine with all that lovely cheese and cream! Grin

Something weird has happened! I mindfully decided to have prosecco tonight, but am finding it really really sweet and dehydrating!! Old me would have easily downed a bottle but I have put 3/4 back in the fridge and am downing water Shock Very happy Grin

Hope everyone is KOKO - it's very quiet!

meercat23 · 24/11/2018 00:52

Still koko here but slower and more difficult than at the start. Hopefully still making progress. I think I need to go back and read the rules again

BIWI · 24/11/2018 07:28

What are you finding more difficult, @meercat23? Anything we can help with?

Collectorofcookbooks · 24/11/2018 07:36

Morning all

Hope the jet lag isn’t too bad BIWI, and you got some sleep.

I was doing so well.. and then...life —and custard creams—

But I’ve pulled it back. I think. I’d say I’m sticking to this 90%. Wonder if it’s time to go onto Bootcamp Lite?

However, DD needs to go dairy free. So that’s going to be an interesting balance for us all.

Time for some water!

prettybird · 24/11/2018 10:49

Gosh - this is one of quietist Boot Camps in yonks Shock

Is it because we are now all so confident in this WoE that we don't need the support or advice? Wink

Collector - some of us do full Boot Camp during the week and then Lite at the weekends. Or just see it as relaxing slightly the Rules, so that you can incorporate nuts, some berries and some very dark chocolate in moderation . I make nice low carb chicken nuggets with a coating of ground almonds/linseed/Parmesan that I can only have if I'm on Boot Camp Lite.

But it still wouldn't allow Custard Creams WinkGrin

Hope you had a great trip BIWI.

I feel like I'm in the swing of things now and that ths WOE is becoming normal for me. My ability to resist sweet things seems to have increased way beyond anything I've managed before. Maybe I'm just in a good frame of mind this time. Long may it last!

I tried on a shirt this morning, which I love but it was far too small when I bought it, and it is now almost wearable! Small victories like that are really cheering me up at the moment instead of chocolate Grin.

Hope your are all having a good weekend so far!

meercat23 · 24/11/2018 11:39

BIWI Nothing I can put my finger on but some of the foods I had been relying on like eggs and salmon and avocado don't seem to be so appealing. Tt might just be discouragement at thinking I was stalled but this morning I went to my weight loss support group (No diet or programme just mutual support) and found that I had lost 3 1/2 pounds. I think my scales might need new batteries Grin

Not going to give up though, I still have my eye on that top I want to wear for a Christmas event!!

StuntNun · 24/11/2018 13:29

Collector how come your DD needs to go dairy-free? I have a mild dairy intolerance but I'm okay with butter and hard cheeses since butter only has a tiny proportion of protein and in cheese the protein is broken down by the processing. Three of my kids are also intolerant of dairy but they all have different tolerance levels. So DS2 can eat yogurt, DS3 can have well baked dairy but not cheese or yogurt, and DS4 needs to avoid dairy as far as possible but can take the occasional chance when eating out.

Tiredofit · 24/11/2018 21:59

I’m reading all the posts and trying to stay motivated but definitely struggling this week. Despite not being hungry tonight I have been eating macadamia nuts and several spoonfuls of cream. I know I can’t get of with that and hate myself for doing it but I still do it. Hopefully next week will be better.

BIWI · 25/11/2018 07:48

Why do you think you're struggling, @Tiredofit? (Hope that name doesn't reflect how you feel about Bootcamp!!!)

Can we help with anything?

Perhaps have a read of this study, about the benefits of low carbing?

That link is to a very recent, high quality piece of research that looks into the advantages of a low carb diet vs 'conventional' calorie counting. it's really interesting reading!

Doilooklikeatourist · 25/11/2018 09:51

Good morning 😀
I’ve been off Bootcamp for much of the week , so I’m fully expecting a weight gain tomorrow

Had a busy time , DD graduating, family get together , weekend with friends .. we don’t have many social events , and then we have lots in the same week !

Back on today , no booze , no sweet treats , but it will be worth it

I’m reading that Diet Dr piece , as I’m still struggling with not doing the calorie counting , just need to change My way of thinking

Cheese is good 👍

Wildheartsease · 25/11/2018 11:06

Interesting article! I know from experimentation that lowering sugar helped me lose weight- even on a calorie controlled approach.

The problem I found was that the diets were also low fat - so following them was all willpower and usually only lasted 12 weeks.

HFLC seems to require less willpower- even in places where there is cake. The food is satisfying.

Collectorofcookbooks · 25/11/2018 17:00

@stuntnun it’s a long story, centred around chronic constipation and continuing soiling - pretty much at the end of our tether and it’s been suggested as something that may help. She’s 5 1/2 and school have been brilliant but it’s impacting daily life massively and we need to try and get it sorted. Been trying to do so for 4 years!

Currently going through 8 to 10 pairs of pants a day and did 2 disimpactions, but nothing is working. She already seems much bouncier after 48 hours and is eating better, so we shall see. Any advice gratefully received.

Collectorofcookbooks · 25/11/2018 17:01

Like the idea of going bootcamp lite at the weekends! Will see what happens on the scales tomorrow.

StuntNun · 25/11/2018 17:41

Collector I believe that dairy intolerance is much more common than we realise and a significant proportion of people are suffering from mild but chronic problems as a result. Wheat is another likely culprit and may be an even bigger cause of gut health problems. I had to go dairy-free a few years back when I was breastfeeding DS4 who is dairy-intolerant. It was actually really tough because I was already eating low carb and I had to cut out dairy, soya, eggs and coconut. I lived on meat, fish and vegetables for over a year. BUT the perennial rhinitis that I've always suffered from cleared up and now I know that I am also intolerant to dairy. I've worked my way up the milk ladder and I'm fine with butter and cheese. I can have yogurt or cream occasionally but not every day. Milk is the worst cause of the rhinitis coming back but I'm fine with a latte or flat white once in a while - I suspect steaming the milk breaks down the dairy proteins a little. When I first cut dairy I couldn't have milk at all without a rhinitis flare up but over time my gut lining has healed so I have a better resistance to be occasional exposure.

My DS2 didn't discover he was dairy intolerant until he was 10-years-old. He always had a runny nose, and he would get leg pains at night that stopped him sleeping. One day he and DS1 decided to have milk drinking competition and that night he was up in the worst pain ever. I suggested he stopped drinking milk and now he doesn't have any more pain. He's fine with yogurt every day, it just seems to be milk that he can't handle.

StuntNun · 25/11/2018 18:19

Collector my advice for your DD would be to go completely dairy-free - checking labels on everything - for at least four weeks to see what difference it makes to her. It's not as difficult as it used to be between food labelling and the wide availability of 'safe' foods. Don't be in too much of a rush to start the milk ladder because it's reasonably likely that she will maintain some level of intolerance. My DS3 can just about cope with the occasional slice of pizza or a piece of milk chocolate but it will cause some issues. Sometimes a single exposure seems okay but repeated exposure every day cause symptoms to return. Also be aware that she may have other intolerances that you aren't yet aware of - soya allergy often goes with dairy allergy. It's a good idea to keep a food diary since symptoms can take 48 hours to develop. It took me ages to work out that my DS4 couldn't have coconut.

prettybird · 25/11/2018 22:48

Made Nigella's olive oil chocolate mousse tonight (using erythritol instead of the small amount of caster sugar): it was lovely Smile

Dark chocolate, eggs, olive oil, small amount of erythritol and sea salt. Very easy and quick.

I'll post the recipe tomorrow on the desserts thread.

tootstastic · 26/11/2018 06:51

Ooh like the sound of the chocolate mousse @prettybird!

Early bird again heading to yoga. 2.7 loss for me this morning, so 21lbs off since the start of BC. It feels good to tick the one and a half stone target. I'm due TOTM anytime and already feel a little bloated, so hopefully it won't stall things.

Good luck with the weigh-ins this morning everyone!
