Week 6: Onwards and downwards into the 2nd half

BIWI has asked me to start this week's Boot Camp thread as she is away in New York and therefore 5 hours behind (and you lot would be champing at the bit by the time she was up and able to post Wink)

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here Remember that it is full of resources, as well as a means of tracking your downward Wink trajectory.

Hopefully, those of you who have been here from the start of this Boot Camp will now be getting used to this Way of Eating (if you weren't already) and are now over any cases of carb flu. If you'd suffered from the notorious Weeks 3, 4 and sometimes even Week 5 stalls, you should now, as long as you KOKOed, be seeing the scales moving downwards again Smile

Remember too that there are lots of lovely recipes available in the pinned threads (and the desserts one, which isn't pinned). No excuses for not eating fabulously on this Way of Eating Grin

2 pounds off for me this week - very pleased with that.

prettybird · 19/11/2018 22:06

Congratulations littleorangetree

Re your more painful period: I think @stuntnun explains it as the oestrogen being released from your fat cells and it should settle down

Doilooklikeatourist - glad you've had a good day. I like turkey steak too - usually smear it with olive oil to add to that fat.

Onlyaprawn - good loss Smile

This Boot Camp is unusually quiet HmmI hope that there are lots of Lurkers being successful and feeling the virtual support Grin

I’m lurking, and not because I’m off-piste. Just unusually busy this bootcamp and trying to do what many of you do daily—combine BC with work schedules. This new for me but I’m catching up regularly and absolutely cheering everyone on!

ShagMeRiggins · 20/11/2018 01:04

I’m not sure how successful I am right now, prettybird. I keep fighting the same 5-10 lbs. it’s okay, though. I’ve been doing this a while and feel better and successful. My goals haven’t changed, but my schedule has been modified. Does that make sense?

I’m absolutely committed to this way of eating. Not just because it works for me, but because I love the food, eat much healthier, and basically feel like shit if I carb up. Hmm

abbey44 · 20/11/2018 01:41

I missed the weigh-in this morning, but I'm really struggling at the moment. I'd had a good week, weight-wise, up to last Monday, despite being away for a few days, but I came back with a flu-type virus which has knocked me all to hell. My blood sugars have been all over the place, the Lemsip and Covonia have shot it up even more and when I did climb on the scales at the weekend, I'd put the whole of last week's loss back on. I am not feeling great in any way shape or form right at the moment, and probably won't until I've at least shaken this bug off. I'm sticking on-plan as much as I can, and keeping the water level up, so hopefully it will all even out, but hell, it's not great right now. I don't know whether I need a hand-hold or a kick up the derriere... Confused

Anyway, I'll just sulk quietly in the corner for a bit. Well done all you BC-ers who are getting the results. I'll be back with you all soon, I hope.

Kleptronic · 20/11/2018 08:18

I put 4lb on this week and I know why and it wasn't worth it. 2 slices of sourdough toast and a bowl of trifle. 4lb. Four fucking pounds. Well that'll teach me!

reddA · 20/11/2018 08:53

Morning everyone, thanks for the new thread Prettybird :) It is quiet, has everyone gone into hibernation? Great to see some losses this week! I'm still stuck fluctuating between 8.08 and 8.16 for some reason, just want to break through that bloody stone and get to my firm maintenance weight of 7.8-7.12.
Still suffering with the hormone issues since starting this woe, had one full cycle so hoping it will start to improve, it's the bad skin that is making me feel like doing something else, I only need to lose a few pounds, I enjoy the food on this and it is more about being healthy than losing weight so I won't ever increase the carbs, just thinking of maybe decreasing the fat and upping the protein slightly - will need to read up on it, see if there's any solution to the oily skin and sore boobs Blush

Hope you feel better soon Abbey Flowers Kleptronic, fingers crossed it will whoosh off by next weigh in - I really want a crumpet, If I put 2 inches of butter on top and marmite do you reckon it will work? Macros would be ok (misses the point) Grin

Hope everyone is okay KOKO

MaudesMum · 20/11/2018 08:54

Still stalling, still on 187lb. Feeling there's a little less of me around the tummy, though - and I know that I was a bit silly at the end of the week (red wine and hobnob-related).

I will KOKO, as this is a way of eating I'm now very comfortable with, but am going to Rome next week, which is going to be a bit of a challenge. I will weigh myself the day before I go (Sunday) but probably post it later...

meercat23 · 20/11/2018 09:55

I am still stalling too. It has been three weeks now that I have been pretty much stuck. I have been away for a few days during that time but except for a few drinks kept pretty much on track. Time to review what I am doing.

starsky22 · 20/11/2018 10:25

Thanks prettybird for the new thread. I'm reading the thread, but then struggle to find time to post, or I write a post and then get distracted and forget to post it and by the time I realise the thread has moved on!

Wasn't feeling well yesterday and didn't weigh in, so weighed today instead and I am 1lb down, happy with that as it wasn't a particularly strict week! Need to up the water too.

If anyone is stalled and doesn't know why, then try posting your meals for the last few days and we can see what it may be, although generally it is down to not enough water and/or fat. Or in maudesmums case too much red wine and hobnobs!! Wink

Everdeenstaken · 20/11/2018 10:33

Oh dear.....gained 2 lbs last week but at least I know why, so it's not as frustrating as it could be. I have been eating too much cheese (did anyone read the news story this week about cheese being addictive? - I can vouch for that!) not drinking enough water and I had wine and too many peanuts on Friday and Saturday night and a couple of rye crackers and a satsuma on Sunday. So I'm clinging to the fact that at least I managed to resist my craving for sweets and ice cream. I am back on track now, I had my period last week so I think maybe that's why my resistance was low.

bluelefant · 20/11/2018 11:41

Oh dear, the 3lb I lost last week have found me!
I blame a croissant I had instead of proper lc breakfast o Sat morning..
Then some wine on Sat evening...
The scales were unforgiving yesterday and showed even more so I moved "official" weigh in to today and feeling optimistic for the week ahead...

dotheshakeandvac · 20/11/2018 13:42

I know it's quite quiet here but just wanted to say thank you to prettybird, biwi, cherries and all you other lovely regulars and stick wielders! After 5 weeks the weight is coming off and I'm starting to believe this might be something I can do in the long term, which is huge for me. A proper change in the way I do normal - not a short term 'diet'. Have been taking inspiration from previous boot camps and the recipe threads, and taking each day as it comes. And brussel sprouts......who knew?!?!

Collectorofcookbooks · 20/11/2018 14:03

Feeling sluggish and headachy today, the DC both have colds so suspect I know what's coming... lots going on, so like others it's not that I'm not here, it's just that I'm juggling a lot!

B - natural yogurt with cinnamon
L - roast gammon with cauliflower and broccoli cheese
D - roast veg and halloumi

Feeling really bloated too. Am glugging the water down. Have sprouts for lunch tomorrow, can't believe how much I'm looking forward to them! Really hoping that next week I'll have broken through the first stone barrier.

prettybird · 20/11/2018 14:23

I'm sure I have single handedly - through the easy buttery microwaved brussels "recipe" for green addictive balls of deliciousness - increased dramatically Lidl's sales of brussels BlushGrin

Wildheartsease · 20/11/2018 15:26

Brussels are my favourite too. I like them in all forms.

For the first time since starting this WOE I became a bit binge-y yesterday - just really wanting to eat all day. It could have been work related as there is much stress.

I ended up feeling over-full (so was clearly not eating to hunger) having eaten lots of butter and cream and cheese (alongside my meals and veg)

Managed to stay off the carbs though and kept drinking water.

Back on track today.

ilovecherries · 20/11/2018 17:15

shakeandvac, glad it’s all coming together for you. :)

My off piste week for my colonoscopy is gradually slipping away again, although was amazing what 5 carb-ridden days (prescribed!) did to my cravings. I don’t think I will ever be able to be liberal with carbs again. So I’ve had to white knuckle it a bit this week, but starting to feel on an even keel again.

I have just made a spicy pork thing for dinner and idly our it in MFP - which I haven’t used since my calorie counting days - and it is claiming it’s 30gns of carbs per portion. I’m finding it very hard to believe that’s correct, given I know exactly what’s in it. Glad my day is no longer under the thumb of that bloody app!

bluelefant · 20/11/2018 17:57

Am I the only one here who hates Brussels sprouts? They taste bitter.
I tried both mashed celeriac and chips though and I loved them.

StuntNun · 20/11/2018 19:27

Bluelafant a lot of people can't eat Brussels sprouts because of that taste. Apparently it's a genetic thing - if you don't have the right gene then you can't taste it so you can eat sprouts.

I've been loving the frozen celeriac from Waitrose lately. It's so convenient for a quick veg option unlike fresh celeriac which is a danger to life and limb. I've also taken to broccoli stars, which is broccoli stalk sliced and roasted in olive oil. Tonight they got a bit overdone and they were lovely and crispy. I can't believe how many broccoli stalks I have thrown away over the years, not realising that's the best bit!

reddA · 20/11/2018 20:51

I ruined Brussel sprouts for myself when i had them during carb flu and felt really really sick Sad hopefully I'll be able to face them again.

Did a 23 hour fast from last night as I was so busy today, I seem to have a sudden burst of energy (having been stupidly tired recently) so I rearranged DS's bedroom completely, it looks fab (put his double bed on kallax cubes so he now has a chillout zone underneath and made a massive desk from a wardrobe door) he loves it, although the rest of the house is now a complete tip! Really hope the energy lasts until I get every room done Grin

Just had an omelette with celeriac, mushrooms & spinach, it wasn't that great, so I might have a small bowl of greek yogurt with a couple of raspberries (to take the taste away)

Found multi-packs 5 x 18g pork scratchings in Lidl for 99p, only small bags but great for popping in your handbag (on the random crap aisle).

Grah0SoontobeaFitty · 21/11/2018 04:07

@Kleptronic 4lb gain I gained 5lb feel your pain.- Saturday not enough water, missed breakfast, rushed out got caught up in work till 4 pm had to meet DW for ride home at 4:30 - so eating at about 6 when we got home.
Only Chocolate or burritos at work, in Tuck shop, carbs - 27.8 g for a crunchie or 57g for burrito.......Try Hot black coffee, ( cream was off) hot water, hot salty water still wobbling, 18hr fast, took the crunchie.
Got home had steak and salad mayo and homemade chili sauce, no sugar.

Tried getting Water balance right since then and so far this week have gone down 3lb.

@bluelefant nope absolutely hate them, feel sick smelling them -EXCEPT cooked the way a welsh family cooked them when I went round for Sunday dinner 35 years ago. No, they wouldn't tell me the recipe said they would only tell the girl when she gets married. They were good but not that good. Cooked some in a pan the other day, just to try, with Steak caramelized and covered in garlic butter black pepper, Forced them down.. they are filling. If you like the feeling you going to get a repeat if you swallow anything else.

Well happy days Ladies KOKO and hope all your dresses fall off in just a few short weeks. Grin

bluelefant · 21/11/2018 06:42

I definitely have that gene StuntNun mention Grin

Kleptronic · 21/11/2018 10:18

Oh Grah 5lb for a Crunchie that's rubbish I'd want a pizza for that.

I've got a bad case of the fuckits. Made blueberry muffins for my boy. Ate one.

prettybird · 21/11/2018 10:26

I used to not like brussels - bitter (literally Wink) memories of boiled to within an inch of their lives brussels mush in my Uni Halls Sad

But since I've discovered microwaving them in butter, I find them sweet rather than bitter Smile

Hi all

May I join you please? You were recommended to me

I have almost 3 stone to lose which I've managed to stack on in the past few years due to my love of cakes and sweets.

I'm vegetarian and can only eat eggs as an omelette or pancakes. Or err cakes.. And I detest tinned tomatoes!

Am I a lost cause? Can I lose 2 stone by Christmas if I start now and I'm very strict? Please say yes Grin

It's either this or Cambridge diet and I'm toying with giving this a go first. I've had a look at the spreadsheet but only briefly for now. Do I really not need to calorie count?!
Am also a cheese and Greek yogurt fiend - I take it this is ok? Should it be measured? And blueberries and raspberries? Deffo not allowed for now?

Thank you so much for any help
