@ItsalmostSummer

If you go to the sign up thread, which I link to in my OP on this thread, you'll find the rules.

And yes, for the first two weeks it's three meals a day. Ideally without snacking - you will find once you adjust to low carbing that you're not hungry between meals anyway! - but while you get used to it, you can snack on things like cheese or olives.

I've been LCing for 3 weeks now and was feeling great and definitely slimmer, although the scales are up and down. Had my first failure last night - a couple of glasses of white wine weakened my resolve and I fell head-first into the chocolate biscuit tin.

I feel crappy! Not hungover (from only 2 glasses of wine), but puffy-eyed, itchy and and off-colour. Could that actually be the carbs? Anyway, it's made me want to get right back on track.

On the positive side, I did my first Parkrun in two years yesterday, after having to stop running because of plantar fasciitis. It was great to be back (even if I was embarrassingly slow!).

Eolian, it could be, it could also be something unrelated like hay fever.

Dd to do this you will need to change your eating habits.

So things like cold meats, cheese, Greek yoghurt etc for breakfast.

Packed lunch you can do salads with some protein added, meats, tuna, prawns, cheese, etc and be adventurous, add vegetables you like use asparagus, olives, broccoli etc There is loads you can have.

Eolian · 06/05/2018 09:31

I have trouble with plain yoghurt too, but it's a very convenient thing to have for breakfast. I mix a little dollop of unsweetened peanut butter, some cinnamon and a couple of drops of vanilla essence into mine. Sometimes a bit of milled flax seed.

My favourite breakfast since starting LC was the day I had smoked salmon with some cream cheese, sprinkled with lemon juice and black pepper. A bit extravagant to have every day though! I quite like avocado for breakfast too.

BIWI · 06/05/2018 09:51

@DDIJ You don't have to have eggs! It's not compulsory!

Breakfast is a funny old meal - we've been trained by Mr Kellogg et al that we should somehow eat different or specific foods. Whereas it's just another meal.

How about having a continental breakfast, e.g. ham and cheese?

Yoghurt is nice with vanilla extract in it - or cinnamon if you like the spice.

Or, how about just having leftovers from the night before?

After the first two weeks of Bootcamp you can drop breakfast if you want to - as long as you're not hungry.

If you only have to have a packed lunch once a week, it's easy! Lots of things you can do, as long as you plan ahead and shop accordingly.

Could be - a pot of tuna mayonnaise, or cooked low carb sausages, or cheese, all with some kind of salad or chopped veg, like cucumber, celery, etc.

Low carbing does mean a shift in mindset. The world is made for carb eaters! Eating on the go isn't easy - so you do have to plan much more.

I’m in. (Again).
Did boot camp last year. Lost a wee bit but main benefit was my seriously unhappy and irritable guts were so much better.
Since then I slipped slowly. Dabbled in veganing and got very lost.
I’m now very fat with very unhappy guts. Again.
Just back from shopping where I bought butter, double cream and belly pork so I think my subconscious is trying to tell me something.

ItsalmostSummer · 07/05/2018 04:28

Thanks BIWI ahh okay. I did sign up but I must’ve overlooked the rules. I found the rules somewhere else too. Thanks for the heads up. Cheese and olives are a great idea for a small snack.
I have been slowly switching towards low carbing. Not completely but getting there. (Getting ready for this.) I have also started exercising again, and just want to up my water intake, and then I’ll almost be ready to start. Now with one week to go...

NorthernKnickers · 07/05/2018 08:21

Quick question: how do people combat the 'ketosis breath' whilst doing this? This is really my only concern.

BIWI · 07/05/2018 13:00

You won't necessarily suffer, @NorthernKnickers. It's also worth pointing out that you don't have to be in ketosis to lose weight. Cutting your carbs right down will achieve weight loss.

If you are suffering, it should only be temporary. Drink even more water, and consider sugar-free chewing gum. (Artificial sweeteners are something we're trying to avoid, but in this instance I think it's justified!)

If it's your only concern, then you'll really enjoy Bootcamp Grin

Fabulous, thank you. Have just downloaded the spreadsheet from a previous thread so I could look at what I need to get in terms of food when meal planning. Looks fairly simple...not too different from what I eat now, except of course without my downfall...bread and potatoes! Have just ordered a super whizzy set of bathroom scales from Amazon (body fat, bmi, water...some other stuff 🤷‍♀️) so I'm gearing up 😊

Here's the preparation thread for next week

Morning Smile I've started cutting down sugar and carbs in prep for boot camp starting, my day looked like this - can someone tell me if I'm on the right track please?

Breakfast - bowl of full fat Greek yogurt and a smoothie with spinach, kale, cucumber, green apple and frozen berries

Lunch - spinach and mushrooms stir fried in butter with three scrambled eggs

Dinner - home made roast veg curry (aubergine, red onion, peppers) and paneer with spiced cauliflower rice

Drinks - 3 litres of water and two coffees with cream (no sugar)

I know the fruit and peppers won't be allowed on the boot camp but does the rest sound ok?

nevermindthebollox · 08/05/2018 18:30

I'm just doing my shopping list to start boot camp! I have a quick question, are tomatoes allowed in the first two weeks, or are they classed as a fruit? Thanks!

BIWI · 08/05/2018 19:18

@Electrocute1980

The other thing to avoid is the onion. Switch to shallots if you can as they're less than half the carbs.

It all sounds OK, as long as you're making sure that you have lots of fat with what you're eating.

Goodasgoldilox · 10/05/2018 01:23

'The other thing to avoid is the onion. Switch to shallots if you can as they're less than half the carbs.'

Is this right?

Shallots are much sweeter than onions. It would be surprising if they were lower in carbs.

Bluntness100 · 10/05/2018 06:41

I'm not sure on the shallots to be honest. Google says shallots have 17 g carbs per 100g and onions only 9g. Maybe I'm looking at the wrong thing [ confused]

BIWI · 10/05/2018 07:47

All the info I have says that onions are 7.9g carbs per 100g whereas shallots are 3.3g

... but I'll double check that! (Don't forget if you're looking at US data, their carb figures include fibre, so you need to look at 'net carbs')

OP posts:
BIWI · 10/05/2018 07:49

From WeightLossResources (a UK website):

Shallots Calories and Nutrition per Serving (1 Serving=1oz/28g)
Calories 6
Protein 0.4
Carbohydrate 0.9
Fat 0.1
Fibre 0.4

OP posts:
Bluntness100 · 10/05/2018 08:04

Very strange, lots of nutrional info out there and it varies, from what I can see it either says they are roughly the same or onions much lower. Which would make sense as shallots are much sweeter. However it's all over the place in terms of data.

BIWI · 10/05/2018 08:08

I know - that happens with a lot of things. We had the same issue on one Bootcamp about the carb count of baby sweetcorn. If I remember rightly, that was also from info on the back of packets too - and you would assume that the supermarkets who print those packs have to use reliable data. I think we concluded in the end that it was probably also something to do with a specific variety.

Ultimately, I think the thing to remember is that shallots or onions are still vegetables, so they still have a lot of value in your diet (quite apart from the flavour that they impart), so it's not the same as if you were debating whether to have biscuits instead of cake!

OP posts:
Bluntness100 · 10/05/2018 08:09

Totally agree. I doubt it makes a lot of difference either way. It's not like we eat a shed ton of onions or shallots really.

50shadesofbeige · 10/05/2018 09:35

Just signed up! As of this morning I've lost 19 lbs low carbing (with a few dodgy weekends thrown in...), so hoping with bootcamp I can get to my goal. I've got quite a few events for the first four weeks but fingers crossed they don't have a big impact. Just going to look through the spreadsheet etc now, thanks for providing all of this @BIWI

Goodasgoldilox · 10/05/2018 12:00

You are right - there seem to be many varied figures for onions and shallots. I suppose this sort of counting is still being established with the establishment!

It shouldn't matter too much though - as you say. Most people eat onions fried anyway - so per 100g (after frying) the carbs will be lower and the fat higher!

MysteryNameChange · 10/05/2018 21:46

Excited to start bootcamp again! I did bootcamp this time last year, felt great and I lost a stone putting me just in my 'healthy' weight range then I immediately got pregnant. I then bowed out due to morning sickness. I put on so much weight when pregnant, felt horrendous the whole time. I haven't dared weigh myself yet 😂 I've been generally low carbing since having the baby - but I want to knuckle down to shift the excess weight. I have been steadily losing already though, but I still feel very porky. Baby is 10 weeks now, I've name changed since I last did BC.

Am I okay to do full hit bootcamp while bf or shall I start off doing bootcamp lite?

Ilovecherries I can't remember if you started the same bootcamp as me, last year, or maybe you had already done one round. Either way I'm made up for you that it's carried on working for you - you must be so proud of yourself.
