Don't be nervous about boot camp, just do it a day at a time. After the first week you will start to feel great as you're burning fat. Plus you will start to get smaller.

Personally I don't use scales, I go on my clothes, so I have a target piece of clothing to get into for example. Everyone is different in what motivates them. Some it's scales, some it's clothes, others it's events.

I'd use my holiday as part of your first mini goal. You will then feel great on holiday.

Morning please can I join as a newbie and what do I need to know beforehand please? I am tall 6ft tall and have a good six stone to loose so I am starting at the gym/health club this week but also need my eating in line to match my increased activity otherwise i’ll Get despondent. My goals are to feel healthier, slimmer especially to
loose my MAHOOSIVE belly, have more energy, be able to shop for clothes that fit and I like not just to minimize my belly and feel a little cooler year round. I would like to be well on my way to two stone down by the end of June (starting today).

kakiqueen · 30/04/2018 12:34

Hi,
I've just signed up. I have done a few mini (and not very strict) Bootcamps and have lost weight well on them during the week as I take exactly what I need to eat to work and stick to it.
Then at the weekends I cannot seem to stick with it at all and end up eating carbs.
I am a bottomless pit when it comes to carbs, I just can't stop eating them once I start, even though I know they don't fill me up and actually make me hungry.
I would like to do it for real now.
I'm a bit worried about keeping up vitamin levels by missing fruit, is this a problem @BIWI?

Thanks!

BIWI · 30/04/2018 19:19

@kakiqueen - if you're following Bootcamp rules properly you should be eating plenty of veg and salad, so your vitamin intake should be fine.

@Hellsbellscockleshells if you go to the sign up thread that I've linked to in my OP, you'll find Bootcamp rules, which will help.

This weekend I'm going to write a post about how to prepare and plan for it, so look out for that.

I'm due to start this in May too. Can I just check can I still have tea? I drink tea with no sugar and drink it with Aldi soy milk which is a lot lower in carbs then semi skimmed milk.... I will really struggle without my cuppa in the morning... I also drink coffee with no sugar but with hazelnut milk, is this OK too?

YoLoHogwomanay · 01/05/2018 00:36

thanks BIWI

Looking forward to Bootcamp starting! I've started already, easing myself in with a bit of 'Bootcamp Light' before the start date. Feeling better for it already - my trousers are definitely looser! I'm 5 foot 6 and about 12 stone. I'd like to get down to 10.5 stone or maybe even 10.

Ilovecherries - did you lose that 5 stone in just a year?!!

ilovecherries · 01/05/2018 21:28

Yup :). It's only just over a lb a week on average.

BIWI · 01/05/2018 21:33

@GeneandFred - you should be fine. Just keep an eye on the carb count of the milks you're using, as well as how much you're actually drinking each day. Remember - most of your carbs should be coming from veg and salad.

Great stuff. Thanks @Biwi

ilovecherries · 01/05/2018 22:52

Finally! Hello again :)

abbey44 · 01/05/2018 23:06

I'm in for this one as well. Missed the last week of the last one as I was away on holiday, but I stuck with it and am still at the weight I finished on then. I'm looking forward to starting again to try and shift some of the last two stone I want/need to lose.

Hi to everyone from the last one, and to the new ones Smile

Mightybanhammer · 02/05/2018 06:53

Add me too please! Smile

Eolian · 02/05/2018 07:11

It's still an amazing achievement though cherries. What an advert for LC!

Honkyponk · 02/05/2018 15:11

I'm another really looking forward to this starting. I drink a lot of tea (with milk), in fact that is all I drink, so I'm a bit concerned about dropping that. Anyone else having a last minute panic? I very rarely buy sweet things but today consumed a pack of fruit pastilles and a bag of malteasers after lunch. Not good!

ilovecherries · 02/05/2018 19:33

I think the most important thing is to trust the process. Yes, you have to give some things up. You also get to put lovely food in its place. If you do it and follow the rules, then it works. If you don't, it won't.

Believe me, I had tried ever diet going. I knew the calories and fat grams of everything. I kept getting fatter. Starting bootcamp last May was last chance saloon for me. I decided I had only one rule - to follow the bloody rules. No exceptions, no tweaking, no arguing that I had any special reason for aberrations. I said I would do it to the letter for the 10 weeks of bootcamp (which included a big wedding anniversary and a two week holiday). If I didn't lose 7lbs in those 10 weeks, then I would stop it, never diet again and try to find peace with my weight. 7lbs sounds modest, but it was more than I'd ever achieved before. In fact I lost 21 lbs in those 10 weeks - so a bit like old Forrest Gump, I just kept on doing it. And a year on, I'm 70lbs lighter. My GERD has gone. My IBS is improved by about 80%. I feel 20 years younger. I sleep well. I run (no one more surprised than me by THAT!).

ilovecherries what a fantastic post. You sound just like me. I've tried every diet, know all the calories, and I'm piling weight on to beat the band.
I was starting to get cold feet about boot camp, but your post has got me all fired up!! Flowers

MrsBertBibby · 03/05/2018 08:16

It's early days, (But I have just passed 1/2 stone down) but I think I may be getting less joint pain. I get awful knife like pain in my ankles periodically, but I don't think it has happened since starting. Or in my knees. Is that a thing?

On the down side, I am hoping my research on Laxido is correct for carb-freeness as I have just had to go there.

Bluntness100 · 03/05/2018 09:00

I'm not sure, but as you lose weight it would lessen the pressure on your joints. But as it has been since starting then there may be something else going on there.

The thing I've noticed is I get a lot less sweaty at night. If I have a day eating carbs, then I get I get the night sweats again, when they are out my system it pretty much stops. I've no idea why.

Electrocute1980 · 03/05/2018 16:01

Hi all, I'm hoping to get a chance to read up over the next few days and join this next boot camp :) I have about 3 stone to lose and nothing else is working.

Lonesurvivor · 03/05/2018 17:46

I'm in I started on Tuesday so currently going through carb flu, the joys.
I did it for a few weeks in March/April and lost 20 pounds (lots to lose though) I then switched to calorie counting for a break as I'm not a lover of so much protein. I kept all the 20 off bar three pounds which I'm delighted with. I'm back again ready to do a few more weeks and hopefully get another stone off.

ilovecherries you've done amazing, I'm so pleased it's paid off for you. I'm not sure I could eat low carb permanently. I ate between 50/100g on calorie counting and enjoyed that leeway. I found though bad habits were creeping back in so decided to go back to basics. I love the way low carb reduces cravings and hunger.

Bostin · 03/05/2018 17:51

What would be the best way to tackle a holiday 2/3 weeks in?

Would it be better to stick to it 90% but allow yourself to give in to the odd temptation? Rather than plunging headlong into a vat of pizza and gelato.

I can’t imagine I will be able to stick to it 100% while away but would like to practice damage limitation.

BIWI · 04/05/2018 08:31

@Lonesurvivor

To be honest, unless you were veggie before you started low carbing, I'm not sure that your protein should be increasing massively. Eating 'normally' you would have been advised to eat food in the ratio of carbs:protein:fat. What we're doing is switching that round, so it's fat:protein:carbs - so the proportion of protein is pretty much the same.
