Morning all.

So we finally reach the last week.

I feel that this Bootcamp has been a pretty successful one overall, with lots of SVs and NSVs.

Next Monday will be our final weigh-in, so there's one more week to lose some of that pesky fat.

I hope it's a good week for you all

I've enjoyed hearing about all the successes today. keep kokoing those that haven't and it'll come.

Alma special best wishes to you and loads of hugs. do you have friends/family you can lean on and either just have a good cry with or who will bolster your spirits, do normal stuff and take your mind off things? I remember really wishing i had at the time I separated, as my supposed BFF went quiet (her husband and mine have continued to be good friends. go figure Hmm ) So I didn't really have anyone I could really talk to in RL and I needed to vent and discuss and work my head around everything that was happening and figure out the practicalities etc and also just to feel cared about. Anyway, it gets better. I promise.

Just started last week, do marking place.

Amazingly already dh has told me my face looks thinner, a colleague admired my hair ( I haven't done anything to it), and my mood has been surprisingly upbeat!

Bluntness100 · 12/03/2018 20:50

Well I snuck out of the Reception, several hundred people there and it was sweltering hot , had half a glass of wine, a glass of water and no food. Feel knackered. Think it was the heat. Can't sneak out the next two days though,,,🤔

Rhodiolia · 12/03/2018 21:02

Hello! It seems you are just finishing up Bootcamp just as I need to join!

I did a previous BC many years ago, didnt see it to the end though Blush

However, I found out a few days ago I carry a mutated BRCA2 gene, which means my likliehood of developing breast cancer is around 80%. It is recommended that I have a double mastectomy & breast reconstructed asap, but I am horribly overweight and need to lose a shit ton before I will be considered :(

LCHF is the one way I know will work, so I am determined to do this so that I don't leave my 3 beautiful children without a mother.

I started today, and despite being at uni all day I think I did ok!

Twoo · 12/03/2018 21:18

Rshard’ I do IF naturally as I’m never hungry in the am. In regards to alternate day IF, James Fung says it’s an appropriate way to eat on this woe. I have just got his book and it’s quite interesting. It outlines different fasting protocols and contains some low carb recipes.

Twoo · 12/03/2018 21:22

Flowers Welcome Rhodiolia . I wish you joining us was under different circumstances. The ladies on this thread are fab. We will all help, support and guide you. Ask anything.

Plantlover · 12/03/2018 21:48

Gosh rhohiolia that must have been awfully hard news to take in.

BerylStreep · 12/03/2018 22:09

Rhodiolia Flowers welcome.

YoLoHogwomanay · 13/03/2018 01:01

welcome rhodi Yes you CAN do it and you've got all of our support along the way. Flowers

AthelstaneTheUnready · 13/03/2018 06:20

Hi, Melanie - it does have an almost instant impact, doesn't it? Grin

Bluntness, sounds very trying. I hate being hot.

Rhodiola, that's quite a bombshell - I'm not surprised you want to take all the preventative measures humanly possible. At least with LCHF, you know you're not just losing weight, but also making your body as healthy/well-nourished/un-inflamed as it can be, setting you up well for any procedure and recovery. Flowers

Rshard · 13/03/2018 06:35

Thanks twoo

Welcome rhodiola, as others have said you’re guaranteed help and support here. Good luck

StuntNun · 13/03/2018 06:38

Welcome Rhodiolia. Bootcamp is a great place to start with your weight loss journey and the support here is second to none. In your circumstances keto might be a better choice in the long-term since it is under investigation as a treatment for cancer. It's basically the same as Bootcamp but you need to keep your carbs a little lower so that you stay in deep ketosis. I also recommend reading The Scientific Approach to Intermittent Fasting which includes information on using a regular extended water fast as a cancer preventative. I'm sure it was shocking to find out that your risk of breast cancer is so high but at least there are things you can do to reduce the risk.

LeapinLizards · 13/03/2018 07:37

Hello Rhod - welcome. Sorry that you've joined us in such difficult circumstances. Flowers

Rhodiolia · 13/03/2018 07:40

Thank you all for the warm welcome! Thank you Stunt, I'd heard of keto but didn't really understand how it differed from LC, I had also heard that fasting is good for healing but never been brave enough to try it! Thank you for the link.

Just wondering what everyone's fave BC meal is? I have fallen in love with celeriac dauphinoise!

SoMuchToBits · 13/03/2018 08:31

Bit late posting as was working all day yesterday and it was ridiculously busy again, so just too tired last night to post! I have stayed the same this week, probably no surprise due to rubbish lunch on Sunday!

Sorry to hear your news, Alma. Hopefully eating low carb will help you to look after yourself properly during what will be a stressful period. Flowers

Welcome, Rhodolia, as others have said, you'll find lots of advice and encouragement here and I'm sure low carb eating will be really helpful for your health generally as well as enabling you to lose weight. I'm not sure I have a favourite dish, there are so many lovely things to eat that are low carb! The Diet Doctor website is a great source of low carb recipes though.

And thanks, BIWI for running another bootcamp, your hard work is much appreciated (and StuntNun, prettybird, Beryl and anyone else who has contributed to running Bootcamp!)

TimeIhadaNameChange · 13/03/2018 09:12

Hi, Rhodiolia - my favourite LCHF meal is to fry some bacon, cut into small pieces, in butter, then lower the temp and add thinly sliced cabbage or brussels and fry them for a couple of minutes (so cooked, but not soggy). Then add some cream and a spoonful of mustard and leave on the heat for another minute until the cream is warmed through.

It's absolutely delicious and, even though I don't like mustard, I love it! I've done variations on it too (beef or corned beef instead of bacon - the corned beef just went mushy, but it was still yummy; garlic instead of mustard). The only thing that didn't work, in my opinion, was adding sliced mushrooms - the texture was wrong.

StuntNun · 13/03/2018 09:57

Rhodiolia the only difference is that a keto diet is slightly lower in carbs than Low Carb High Fat. Anything under 50g carbs a day is LCHF, under 20g is a ketogenic diet. On Bootcamp, low carb vegetables and protein are essentially unlimited but you need to be more strict to achieve nutritional ketosis. It isn't necessary to be in ketosis to lose weight and get significant health benefits. The advantages of ketosis are that it inhibits and can even reverse the development of cancer. I suggest that you get started with Bootcamp and then you can decide whether you want to become stricter later on. It's difficult to give absolutes because the only research at the moment is in animal models. Similarly with fasting, get going with Bootcamp first and you can decide whether to add in some fasting at a later date. It isn't as difficult as you might think, quite a few of us on here have done 24-hour fasts and found it manageable.

Rshard · 13/03/2018 10:16

That sounds lovely time! My fave rhodalia is cottage pie with a swede top instead of potato. My dh now has his portion with swede.

lisbapalea · 13/03/2018 10:29

Morning all,

Just checking in to log the food plan. Am down 1.8lb since yesterday so fingers crossed this is a pattern for the week ahead..

B - greek yog, berries, coffee with cream
L - will be salad from work canteen
D - might try the bacon and sprouts idea above, or omelette with mushroom

LeapinLizards · 13/03/2018 10:40

StuntNun, can you point me towards any of the research into ketosis and cancer that you mention? Or anymore info on it? DF has terminal cancer so i'm interested that ketosis can inhibit the development - which I take to mean progression? - of cancer. He may not want to pursue that type of diet, but I think it is worth flagging it up to him.

Rayna37 · 13/03/2018 10:41

STS this week after 6 weeks of BC: fair enough as I know why and while it could have been a lot better (whoosh at the start of week literally, due to diarrhoea) it could also have been worse: boozy Sat, carb creep and an escalation of fuck-its, Indian takeaway good choices but no doubt hidden carbs and peaking at eating the brioche which accompanied my cooked breakfast with French JAM actual liquid sugar FFS on it yesterday.

Off-piste for lunch as off to use the 3 course lunch voucher we have for an amazing place in Liverpool. I won't bang on about it and will be strict thereafter. I'm back in the realm of high end of normal weight rather than baby weight but still have plenty of jeans I can't do up due to my Mum Tum; mustn't get complacent.

SoMuchToBits · 13/03/2018 10:44

Rshard, I've also made the cottage pie with swede top and both ds (17) and I loved it!

StuntNun · 13/03/2018 10:57

Leapin I'm sorry to hear about your DF. I don't want to give you false hope because the research is in such early stages. It's difficult to be sure how reliable the animal models are, and it also depends on the type of cancer since some are more sensitive to the presence or absence of glucose than others. Here's a good summary of the current research.

LeapinLizards · 13/03/2018 11:16

Thank you StuntNun - I will take a read. It's not brain cancer in his case. I also wonder if it might seem counter-intuitive to him to adopt a diet that others follow to achieve weightloss. But I will read up on it because it feels (to me) like anything is worth a shot.

Twoo · 13/03/2018 11:23

Day late weighing as out yesterday. 10st 11. So lost 1lb from last weeks 2lb gain. Still on point. Full bc, no alcohol, no snacks and eating two fully nutritious meals a day. I will koko la Vida until things start to move again.

BIWI Thank you for reaaasuring me that threads carry on Grin

Not read this thread yet as busy catching up on yesterday’s job (which take three times as long these days). Bbl.
