Good morning all

I see from the end of last week's thread that some of us have been struggling with various demons.

We only have two weeks left, so time to gird your loins (however you do that!), and plough on.

Hopefully the snow has gone, or is disappearing rapidly, and that there's enough appropriate food in the shops. At least our problem is not being able to find what we want - I saw a very sad piece in the news yesterday about a dairy farmer, who was having to throw all his milk away, because the tanker couldn't get to his farm to collect it. So days' worth of money for him gone Sad

Anyway, here's the lovely new thread, and with the fantastic Spreadsheet of Fabulousness.

Good luck this week. Stick with it and keep the focus.

Difficult weekend in terms of a lot of meals out of my house so I think there has been a lot of carb creep even though I have worked really hard to stay on plan.
B creamy coffee
L (out) Mediterranean veg omelette with salad and herbal tea
D coconut cream pulled pork with low carb coleslaw
Snack 18g packet of pork scratchings with about 8g dark chocolate
W not enough

So not terrible but not perfect. I think it will be a stall for me this week and I’m going to be cross...

Biwi, suspect we are saying the same thing, 🤣I agree she needs to eat more, as said, I know rhe feeling she means and it's due to not eating enough I think, or it is with me. Sometimes it's just tiredness though. But I can be fairly rigourous and skip rest days which is daft.

Yes. 800,is too low, but keeping an eye on portion sizes is really just another way of saying manage your calories a bit. So we are saying the same thing.

How many calories a day are you eating bear?

BerylStreep · 11/03/2018 21:32

Well logging with MFP has helped me to see where I could improve.

Today's food:
B. Spinach, egg & cheese with a knob of butter. Coffee with almond milk. No cream.
L. 2 babybel in microwave with butter. Coleslaw and turkey slice. Couple of slices of cucumber
S. Coffee w AM&C. Another babybel (they are like crack)
D. Small bit of rib-eye, green beans, celeriac dauphinois

Currently having a gin and diet ginger ale with fizzy water

Bluntness this week I’ve had around 1500 a day (for various reasons!) but as a rule I try to stick to about 1200 on most days with maybe a couple of days over that and one proper fasting day of 800. I am a rubbish dieter though, and regularly exceed my ‘limits’ which is why I try to aim low! I run 2 days and rest 1 day, and run between 3 and 6 km, but not particularly fast. (What I’m trying to say is that I’m not an athlete in training, I’m a slightly chubby, huffing and puffing, ex smoker!). The diet is working for me though right now, I’m losing consistently up until this week, and the running is just for toning up, which is why I don’t really want to rock the boat too much- if I eat those extra exercise calories, I Won’t lose (as I’ve found this week as I’ve eaten more, but not lost weight as a consequence)

I didn’t expect to spark such intense debate really; I simply wondered if I should maybe eat something to fuel my run, or if it was something to just push through as I’m currently doing. I have read up a bit about electrolytes and it does make sense, especially as I drink coffee a lot and drink a lot of water, so I’m going to try those.

Thanks everyone, sorry if I’ve derailed your thread a bit!!

Ok, then It could be actually it's not about the food intake reading your food and activity levels , it could be you feel this way because your muscles are not used to it, so it's really a lack of fitness still. It will get better. And quite quickly.

I'd maybe go for a while, longer. Sorry I know I'm changing my mind based on finding out your food intake but I think maybe it's lack of fitness that's causing that treacle feeling. Hope that doesn't sound rude.

And no it's an interesting discussion.

Oops Blush

I've been AWOL for a week - so I'm not even going to try to catch up Blush

Been struggling for a while to stop snacking (even if they were HFLC Blush) and to drink enough water and as a result my weight had crept up a couple of pounds. So, I put myself on an egg fast - which finally, today put me back under 12 stone Smile

Ds even made me scrambled eggs this morning as a Mothers' Day "breakfast in bed" treat (according to him, Mothers' Day is a capitalist commercial con, so I let him off buying me more than a card!) Smile

Unfortunately, my lovely dad tonight served us up my mum's lasagne - only made "properly" with pasta Shock. He did serve berries (again) for dessert.

Hopefully I'll still be under 12 stone tomorrow.

Welcome back Pretty’. Hope you see the right numbers tomorrow

😀

thenewaverage i recall someone on a previous bootcamp (cyclist?) had some peanut butter just before a ride. and took some with them (or maybe a protein bar) for the mid ride slump. or something like that. someone will correct me I'm sure.

anyway, I am no exerciser but when I do do it, I am running thru treacle anyway because I'm so unfit!

StuntNun · 12/03/2018 06:24

The reason we shouldn't need to count calories on this way of eating is because BIWI has designed and refined the Bootcamp rules to make it unnecessary. If you're eating low carb foods according to your appetite then you will lose weight without needing to count calories. But that doesn't mean that calories aren't a factor in weight loss. If you eat 3000 calories a day you won't lose weight although you might not gain weight either and when you get near your goal weight then a few days of counting calories can be a useful tool to assess your macros and portion size.

I actually think calories are becoming more of an issue now that low carb foods are becoming more widely available. I was in Subway the other day getting sandwiches for my kids and I was tempted by their bowl of meatballs as it was going to be a long time until my dinner. But then I realised that at 314 calories that was much more than a snack. Also I was in the leisure centre yesterday and saw that they had packs of almonds in the vending machine, but again they were nearly 300 calories per packet.

BIWI · 12/03/2018 07:37

@YoLoHogwomanay

Yes, that was Grah, if memory serves me right. But @thenewaveragebear1983 isn't fit like he was - he was cycling miles and miles, so often did need the extra - although peanut butter was more about the fat an protein than the carbs, I think.

To answer your original question, which I've tried to do several times Grin no, you don't need carbs before your run especially if you're fat-adapted, and you're eating enough. If you're a slightly chubby, huffing and puffing, ex smoker then this is more likely to be the reason why you're struggling.
