Good morning all

I see from the end of last week's thread that some of us have been struggling with various demons.

We only have two weeks left, so time to gird your loins (however you do that!), and plough on.

Hopefully the snow has gone, or is disappearing rapidly, and that there's enough appropriate food in the shops. At least our problem is not being able to find what we want - I saw a very sad piece in the news yesterday about a dairy farmer, who was having to throw all his milk away, because the tanker couldn't get to his farm to collect it. So days' worth of money for him gone Sad

Anyway, here's the lovely new thread, and with the fantastic Spreadsheet of Fabulousness.

Good luck this week. Stick with it and keep the focus.

Thanks, StuntNun. Agree that only the doctor can make that call (my cardiologist, in thise case, as I regularly see a specialist). Interestingly, he’s the one who upped my statin dose in January 2017, which was fair enough at the time.

I feel things have changed.

Equally interestingly (to me), I have never had high blood pressure. Which might be why the beta blocker feels unnecessary to me. It’s also the one I feel has the most negative effect.

I’ll see how next lipid panel goes and have a serious chat with GP and then with cardiologist. It would simply be so nice to regulate myself with diet and lifestyle rather than having medications doing it for me, though I’m utterly grateful for modern medicine.

Rshard I might have been wrong about calcium. Was just a throwaway thought but a bit of Internet research is showing all sorts of different information! Vitamins B, D, and H seem to feature, as does zinc and iron and protein. Confused

YoLoHogwomanay · 09/03/2018 20:46

what a busy thread today!

ilove I'm totally loving your different looks. You rock, lady!

crafty well done so far. that's pretty amazing. maybe you are closer to goal and it gets harder? Or maybe it's just a temporary stall/fluctuation? I would just koko and forget the scales for a couple of weeks and see what happens. I'm sure others will recommend detailed analysis and specific diet tweaks which might also work! But overall, don't worry too much!

YoLoHogwomanay · 09/03/2018 20:55

interesting re your blood test stuntnun. I shall be posting my latest results to update my own thread on this next week when I get them. Hopefully you will have a good old nosey at them again for me!

shagme I like your update. Sex on legs really suits your username! Your mother's day sounds wonderful just a bit envious

twoo me too with the brassica fetish. Cavolo Nero is my total fave fix. Followed by kale, sweetheart cabbage, broccoli, savoy and spring greens. Often several of the above together. Sprouts I can do without as i find them bitter, but can tolerate them shredded thinly and stir fried in butter, which is how I do all my green veg anyeay.

BerylStreep · 09/03/2018 20:56

Cherries the beach wave hair is gorgeous!

Bluntness I actually think your friend has been quite manipulative. Saying something negative in the hope of everyone shouting 'no, don't be silly, you're waif-like' is just fishing for compliments, and it was pretty shitty for her to completely ignore your achievement. For her to try to turn her own negative comment around on you is really poor form.

I'm continuing to log intake on MFP - there is no way I could manage this long term, but it has been quite revealing. Did I mention that one of the small bags of Lidl macadamia nuts are almost 1000 calories? Shock I'm also quite surprised at my salt consumption. I've managed good macros - today has been 19g carb, 104g fat and 68g protein and 1400 calories (not that I'm counting calories).

Inspired by you lot I have also downloaded the c25k app. Not making any commitment to do anything, but at least I've got the app. Grin

BTW, where is PrettyBird? I don't think I have seen her on this week's thread.

YoLoHogwomanay · 09/03/2018 21:02

time bloody well done on the running. I want to do this too, but can't right now for various reasons. I'm walking loads more though which is a start.

blunt don't beat yourself up. You've probably upset her just by the fact that you've successfully lost weight and she hasn't. You cant help that or her feelings about it. But along with some grovelling for living up to your username here Grin maybe you can convert her and get her to join us here. A tactful and genuine offer to share with her about how you achieved your weight loss and support her IF she wants to try it too. You are the best ambassador for this WOE and she will thank you for it if she takes you up on it. and we will welcome her here with open arms!!

YoLoHogwomanay · 09/03/2018 21:05

I meant IF above as in the actual word 'if' meaning 'in the event that' and not IF meaning intermittent fasting. That's too hard core for a newbie!!

Bluntness100 · 09/03/2018 21:21

Thanks beryl and yolo. I know you're right, she's not being very nice but think it's due to sensitivity. I think she was looking for something because she's pissed off ive lost weight. However I should have been more sensitive, no two ways about it.

She won't loose weight or diet I don't think. I think it just seems too big a hurdle for her. She is few stone overweight and she jokingly talks about it a lot, so I have misconstrued that as not being as deeply sensitive about it as she is.

Judging by last night the fact I've lost weight is a subject that won't ever be discussed or acknowledged in any way. No way could I recommend a diet or way of eating.😔

Twoo · 09/03/2018 21:28

YoLo’ me too! I’ve always enjoyed my veg but as a side. For me now, it’s being increasingly the main event with a side of fish, meat or cheese Grin

BrassicaBabe · 09/03/2018 21:55

I've had a huge duck roast dinner. This is not going to be pretty in the scales tomorrow. Although I did restrict myself on the cauli cheese for front

Craftypuss · 09/03/2018 21:56

Riggins, you asked about my week's food. This week:
Sunday - B -none
D - slow cooked pork, crackling, loads of veg with butter
T - can't remember, but not much!
Mon - Thur -
B - none
L - homemade curried cauliflower soup (from the recipe thread, I think - gorgeous!)
D - leftover pork with kale and butter/pan-fried salmon with fried sprouts, mushrooms and green pepper/homemade bolognaise with cabbage/belly pork slices (2) with broccoli, cauliflower + cabbage.
Snack - small amount of walnuts/salami

Friday B - none
L - cauliflower + cheese (having weighed and discovered that avoiding dairy had not led to weight loss!!!)
D -fried steak, leeks, swede, spring greens, butter
Drinks: at least 3.5 litres of water each day, black coffees, herbal tea.

Craftypuss · 09/03/2018 22:05

Twoo, I do have rest days, I've been doing gym & aquaswim twice a week for over a year (Mondays and Wednesdays), and have just started on C25K 3 times a week (Tuesday, Friday and Sunday), resting on Thursday and Saturday.
I can't believe I'm doing it - I spent more energy dodging exercise than I ever put into doing it for most of my life, and now...!! Shock
Maybe I'll put my hopes on water weight and just koko! Grin

mickeymacca · 09/03/2018 22:07

Ilovecherries I love your hair especially the first one and your eyebrows are awesome 😍

Almahart · 10/03/2018 03:34

cherries your hair looks amazing! All of it. I’m so in awe of how you have handled this.

I’ve been thinking about cheating and how much of it is driven by self sabotage/rebelling rather than actual desire/cravings

When I thought this diet was about eating as much as you wanted as long as it was low carb (facepalm) I cheated by eating carbs.

Now that it (for me) is about eating three lchf meals a day, I cheat by snacking, or by having seconds. My desire to cheat with carbs has totally gone - my cheating gremlin has found another outlet.

I find the insight that it’s the desire to cheat per se rather than desire for specific food really interesting

BrassicaBabe · 10/03/2018 07:41

I'm eating out tonight. I found Indian easy to navigate; I just had the meat dish sans rice and bread. But we're eating Thai. We normally share a mixed starter. (Think the contents are pretty universal) So prawn toast and spring roll would be out. Everything else ok? I wonder what's in the dipping sauces. Then I normally have a green curry and sticky rice. That's out! The curry is very wet. Without the rice it wouldn't be much fun. Can anyone recommend some Thai options to help me navigate the carbs?? For the last week of BC I don't want to be trying to shift the 4lb that I know I'd gain if I cheat!

BadlyParkedRangeRover · 10/03/2018 07:57

shagme Beta blockers don't just reduce blood pressure, they reduce the oxygen demand of the heart (your heart muscle only gets it's oxygen supply when it's relaxed, a lower heart rate means more relaxed time) heart attacks and angina are conditions where the oxygen demand is more than the supply.
Discuss it with them next appointment?

Rshard · 10/03/2018 07:58

Thanks stuntnun and shagme, I’ll do a but more research. I do like to have pretty nails!

Almahart · 10/03/2018 08:07

Brassica Thai is pretty tricky, my guess would be that those chilli sauces are packed full of sugar

Tom yum soup? That salad with peanut and lime juice? Can you post a menu and we could have a look?

BIWI · 10/03/2018 09:02

Thai is hard! I usually have chicken satay to start with then Crying Tiger which is steak

AthelstaneTheUnready · 10/03/2018 09:20

sorry to post and run, frantic yesterday/today, but had to say...

another 2lbs overnight!!!!

so down nearly 3lbs in the last few days, just from swapping out some meat for more butter and avocado instead, even though calories went up! and I've been sitting on my arse reading and writing for the last 48 hours!

BIWI and Stunt, you are miracles of wisdom! Flowers to all!

i really thought that 2 month stall was it for me.

Twoo · 10/03/2018 09:54

That’s great Athel’

Bluntness100 · 10/03/2018 10:00

Ooh congrats athel, I bet that's satisfying!

Rshard · 10/03/2018 10:01
