Can I do bootcamp while breastfeeding?

I am breastfeeding a 9 month old and I don’t want my supply to drop, as I need to BF him until he’s two because of cow’s milk protein allergy.

Is it safe to LCHF? I used to do it long term and I really miss it and I’m desperate to shift another 10kg of baby weight.

Try it and see. Express a bit and freeze it, do your camp. If it affects your supply / quality top up withthe expressed and cut down on the bootcamp next time. Dont use bf as an excuse not to exercise though, moderate exercise can only be good for you and ulti
ately your baby.

I’m sure your GP would trot out the NHS line about low fat diet being the way to go but realistically our ancestors had a paleo diet and would have BF for longer than the societal norm that we have now.

If you're breastfeeding, hormones can mean your joints and ligaments are looser than they should be. You will likely be prone to injury. Be careful with high impact moves and take it easy.

Billywilliam I can’t take the risk that it might drop; if it does it will take me weeks of pumping to get supply back up and I don’t want to have to do that. I’m looking more for experiences of people who might have done it really.

Exercise is sorted thanks, I just want to know about low carbing. I really miss it as a way of eating.

feesh maybe worth posting again on infant feeding board? You can get more views then.
Good luck.

I think @StuntNun (amongst others) breastfed while on Boot Camp. Iirc, Boot Camp Lite is suggested.

orkneyfudge · 16/02/2018 13:16

I breastfeed and low carb. My LO is older now but I started when he was around 9m. I have had no supply problems or other issues. My LO still feeds 6-8 times every 24 hours.

I breastfed while eating LCHF from when my DS3 was seven months and right through pregnancy and breastfeeding my DS4 to 18 months. I didn't experience any supply issues. I followed Bootcamp Light as a precautionary measure although there is no physiological need for carbohydrate while breastfeeding. If you're worried about supply then make sure you're drinking plenty of water and also that you're eating enough, don't worry about trying to lose weight, just let it happen at its own pace. I would suggest a minimum of three meals a day. If you're still breastfeeding at night then you may find you need a snack in the night or first thing in the morning, especially during the first week or so while your body is adapting to burning fat. I also suggest a breastfeeding multivitamin and a lot of women breastfeeding a CMPA child take a calcium supplement as well. My DS4 is allergic to dairy, egg, soya and coconut and I had a pretty limited diet while I was feeding him as it was just meat and veggies for a long time. When he was over one year old he became less sensitive to allergens in my breastmilk and I was able to reintroduce eggs and hard cheese.

I'm not a medical expert so please do seek advice from your doctor if you have any concerns. I am happy to answer any questions on my own experience of low carb / breastfeeding / CMPA if there's anything else you want to know.

No problems here! Make sure you have enough fats and eat healthily - eg lots of good veg as well as protein - good luck! 🤗

Can someone point me in the direction of info on bootcamp light please? I’ve trawled through lots of old posts but am struggling to find the rules

Boot Camp Light Rules will be on one of the tabs of the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness, which will be linked to in the OP of each week of the Boot Camp threads.

They will also have been outlined in the OP of the Week 3 thread, when the option to choose "Boot Camp Light" begins.

Sorry - I can't link as I am on the app.

Feesh I've done it since my baby was a few weeks old. He is ebf and no supply issues. In fact he's bigger than my first now after starting out the same weight haha.

I can't see how it could possibly affect your supply. If you're eating plenty of fat you'll eat plenty of calories so energy in won't be a problem.

Just make sure you drink loads and loads of water due to the initial loss of water when cutting carbs.

Jenala · 20/02/2018 08:09

Also meant to say I did track to start to aim for 40-50g max carbs a day so probs not full keto, just to be on the safe side. Only 10% of calories from carbs though.

Diet Doctor has a page on lchf and breastfeeding.
