Week 3 - the parting of the way! - Low Carb Bootcamp

Morning all

Here's the Spreadsheet

Hope you've seen a good result, making for a very satisfying first two weeks.

Now. Those two weeks were probably quite tough, so if you want to, you can now move on to Bootcamp Light - the rules are on the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet.

Essentially this means you can start to skip breakfast (or another meal) if you want to - if you're finding that you're not hungry. (Please don't skip meals for any other reason)

You can also introduce some fruit - mainly berries - in moderation, and also nuts and seeks - again, in moderation - and alcohol - IN MODERATION!

But. It's very often the case that in weeks 3 and 4 your weight loss will slow right down. Sometimes you may see a slight gain, even though you know you've been following Bootcamp to the letter. So you may not want to relax things quite yet.

Entirely up to you.

Remember, though, if you choose to stay on Bootcamp, please remember to make sure you're getting your carbs in the most part from vegetables and fruit - you need that for proper nutrition.

If you like you can do a hybrid - Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

But whatever you choose - good luck and I hope you have a good week. Flowers

I can open that sheet on the PC just fine. Thanks, grumpy!

ClearEyesFullHearts · 24/10/2017 12:12

GrumpyOldFucker I've opened your cheat sheet on my iPhone. I have the Dropbox app downloaded, if that makes any difference.

Thanks for the cheat sheet. I'm going to print it (once I unravel the mysteries of my new Tesco wifi printer grumble grumble)

Scabbersley · 24/10/2017 12:28

NSV ALERT
So happy - my mid thigh length down coat does up again! Comfortably! It got to the point where it kept popping open. I'm really chuffed as I live in it!

StuntNun · 24/10/2017 13:04

I'm staying at my mum's house for the funeral tomorrow and she is planning fish and chips for dinner tonight (which seems reasonable as there are 13 of us here). Is there anything low carb I can order from the chippy or is picking the batter off the fish the only option?

Grimbles · 24/10/2017 13:06

Any advice on what to do about high cholesterol? DH is in a flap because the doctor has told him his is too high!

He has lost about 15lbs so far (hmpff) so doesn't want to ditch lchf completely!

prettybird · 24/10/2017 13:08

Re Holger's comment about eating even Boot Camp Lite compatible treats: I like to have a square of very dark chocolate with a mug of peppermint and liquorice tea. Eating it slowly and savouring it alongside the tea us reminiscent of a mint chocolate Smile

Because I'm staying on full Boot Camp for the moment, I'm trying to forget about the bar of Lidl 80% Ecuadorian chocolate that I opened the week before starting Boot Camp! Grin

prettybird · 24/10/2017 13:19

Grimbles - does he have a "pre" Boot Camp cholesterol level for reference? He might find that his level has actually gone down. Which levels are too high - both HDL and LDL or just one of them? If he doesn't have a base line, maybe continue for another 2 or 4 weeks and then re-test. If there is no change for the better, then maybe reconsider his diet.

Caveat: I am not a medic.

Scabbersley - congratulations on your NSV. I'm hoping that with the winter rugby season upon us and the need to support ds from the touch line, I'll be able to do up my ski jacket over my hips as opposed to hoiking it up to my waist Blush Should be ok as I'm back to the same weight I was went I went skiing a year past February although it was very snug then and putting a lot of strain on the bottom of the zip Blush

TempusEejit · 24/10/2017 13:19

Stuntnun does the chippy do chicken? Or unbattered sausages? Pickled eggs, gherkins...erm can't think of much else. Hope all goes as well as it can do Flowers

Mimosa1 · 24/10/2017 13:19

Scabbers great NSV

I though my fellow bootcampers would appreciate this anecdote. I took the baby to a baby yoga class this morning and in an effort to drink the approved BC amounts of water, took a water bottle with me. I must not have closed the spout and it spilled under the mat so I didn't notice until the end of the class. New pregnancy yoga class was starting right after and I was wittering on tidying up when a nice pregnant lady looked at me sympathetically and said "ah yes.. lady problems..." GrinBlush

Gammeldragz · 24/10/2017 13:26

stuntnun if they do a deep fried chicken quarter, have that. Crispy skin and everything :)

Grimbles · 24/10/2017 13:27

I don't know details yet pretty, but I will ask when he gets home later. I do know it was 'normal' earlier in the year

prettybird · 24/10/2017 13:36

Also Grimbles - how "good" has he been at following HFLC? I know he's lost lots of weight (over how long?) but men seem to annoyingly be able to go "off-piste" more easily than women without knocking themselves out of ketosis.

TempusEejit · 24/10/2017 13:46

Mimosa Grin Are you counting that as an NSV?!

dataandspot · 24/10/2017 13:50

BIWI

Is there a mistake on the spreadsheet then? Pistachios are listed as lower carb than peanuts?

Am really grateful for answering my questions. I hit 50lbs lost in 15 weeks today. Thankyou for all your help.

Grimbles · 24/10/2017 13:53

Pretty, yeah he is that annoying type who hasn't really been trying that hard!

SoMuchToBits · 24/10/2017 14:06

StuntNun, depends on the chippy. If it also does kebabs etc, you could have kebab meat and salad.

StuntNun · 24/10/2017 14:43

Thanks for all the chippy tips, I'll check out the menu when we get there.

SayrraT · 24/10/2017 14:55

data the spreadsheet might be wrong, for somethings it's hard to find a consensus. That's why it says on the spreadsheet to check the back of the packet you have.

TimbuktuTimbuktu · 24/10/2017 15:00

I am sooooo hungry today. I guess I’ve probably not had enough fat? Or it’s just one of those things? I was good yesterday so don’t think I am out of ketosis.

B- celery and baby sweet corn with cream cheese and pate (heaped dessert spoon of each)
L- pumpkin soup with tsp of cream cheese and an inch of feta crumbled in

S- about to eat my own arm if nothing else presents itself! I am on a site visit today and there is no food available!

Lenl · 24/10/2017 15:12

A teaspoon of cream cheese and an inch of feta is nothing! Probably you need more fat can you have a spoonful of cream cheese when no one is looking?

Thiswillbemyusername · 24/10/2017 15:30

I can't remember who suggested it but I've just had coffee with butter and coconut oil: and it really does taste like toast Halloween Grin

DrDiva · 24/10/2017 15:39

Mimosa Grin

Well an interesting day. I have several things wrong with me at the moment, still on massive doses of antibiotics. Came home at lunchtime starving, and had more fat than I normally would, e.g. Butter with pate on top, followed by courgettes sautéed in lots of butter and mixed with cream cheese. And I suddenly feel loads better! Not quite sure how infection and low carb might be linked.

Oh, and thanks for the reminders about having a stock cube drink. That also really hit the spot.

FurryTurnip · 24/10/2017 15:59

Food today....

B: two baked eggy muffin things with spinach and Brie in
L: same as breakfast but with homemade coleslaw (a revelation! Just shallot, cabbage and courgette but was lovely)
D: leftover thai veg curry
S: almonds.... And a slight cheat as I'm only in week 2, a tiny piece (1cm square) of dark chocolate.

Finding tiredness makes it tricky to stay on track but not giving up now!

TheMonkeysOnTheTable · 24/10/2017 16:13

My NSVs...

  1. The dress I am wearing today is baggy on me. It wasn't 2 weeks ago.

  2. I feel like I've broken through a barrier and I'm now enjoying drinking so much water. My body feels grateful and quenched rather than overwhelmed when I drink it.

  3. I haven't had my hair cut in a year. I've been feeling so frumpy that I haven't bothered at all and told myself it would be a waste of money.
Well right now I'm sat in the hairdressers having a proper (and fairly pricy) cut and colour. I'm not the lightest I've been in the last year (not far off it though) but I'm feeling so much more positive about myself that I feel my hair is worth investing in again.
I've had a load of hair hacked off but I'm still at the head in foil bit though so haven't seen the end results yet. It may still be a mistake!

  4. I have managed to happily ignore the chocolate chip cookie the hairdresser has put in front of me.

Mimosa1 · 24/10/2017 16:32

Tempus - I don't think I can hehe

DrDiva - hope you feel better soon. I believe (not remotely medical though) that many vitamins are fat soluble so you might have got a shot of vitamins more easily assimilated iyswim

Pretty bird - precious indeed Wink

Feeling very annoyed at the moment aaargh aaargh aaargh. I somehow had it in my head that the upper boundary of a healthy BMI for my hight was 75kg (i.e. Only 3,5kg to go which felt manageable by the end of bootcamp) but it's bloody 71.5kg, so 7kg further to go. It feels unachievable, or at least anytime SOON and Christmas is coming up and I'm going back to work and FFF. Intellectually, I know I've done very well in this WoE with 10kg off since the baby was born and he's only 4m but aaaargh. It doesn't help that in my postnatal yoga class this morning, a positively sylph-like lady was there with a similar aged baby. If I'm honest with myself, there's only so much I can blame on baby weight and a lot more I can blame on eating all the cakes, sigh...
