Morning all

Glad to see some positive news already this morning - [flowers[] Hesdeadjim

Here's the spreadsheet for your official reckoning

So we have four weeks left. A good push now and you could still lose at least 4lbs, if not half a stone.

Here's to a good week Gin

Hi all, I'm at the end of my week 3 and I know this is a difficult week but I've really stalled and my weight loss has really stalled with just half a pound off this week.
Did anyone else go through this? I know I need to be patient but those numbers on the scales going down is what's really kept me going. Will things pick up in week 4?
Grrr.

StuntNun · 24/03/2017 23:15

Wishful half a pound off is not a stall. A stall is where your weight doesn't drop for several weeks in a row. Weight loss is not a linear process. If you're following the rules then you will be consistently losing fat but you will never consistently lose weight. Keep on keeping on and the weight will come off. This way of eating works and it will work for you.

Kleptronic · 24/03/2017 23:20

Eyup wishful I'm sure the more knowledgeable ones will be along shortly, but in the meantime I can give you my personal experience, which is of an epic stall until week 6, and I was complaining on here about it. Now it seems to be flying off me. I am, I reckon, now 'in the zone'. I don't get hungry and my portions are small (still lots of veg, fat and some protein 3 times a day).

It might be different for you; I don't know your starting point. I'm relatively tall at 5ft 9 and was at a BMI of 24 when I began, and it's been said here and elsewhere that when it's the last stone/10lb it's more stubborn, so if you've a different vector it may well pick up sharpish for you in week 4/5. Although I think I was kidding myself there and it's the last 2 stone for me really! My body was well pleased to be where it was thank you very much, and has taken a bit longer to get with it. But it has now, for sure.

Consider your water intake, and consider carb creep. Post a typical day's meals, and the wise ones will comment I'm sure. Keep on keeping on, it surely does work in the end!

Kleptronic · 24/03/2017 23:21

Oh cross post with the very wise StuntNun

wishfulblinking · 25/03/2017 00:26

Thanks all. I know, I know. Am being a bit of a brat. Just want to have lost a stone already stamps foot.
Sadly have quite a lot of lose so this isn't just the last 10 pounds or so.
But definitely feel I'm following the rules so will KOKO. Next week am going to start exercising again -haven't had the energy to - so that should help me feel/look better.

StuntNun · 25/03/2017 06:41

Wishful exercise can also help by improving your insulin sensitivity. I always recommend the 30 Day Shred because it combines bodyweight training with HIIT which is one of the best forms of exercise for rapid results and it will tone your muscles all over. I suggest you find some other motivations because the scales are fickle liars and you don't want to be reliant on them for motivation. Think about how you feel on this way of eating - do you have more energy or are you sleeping better or do your teeth feel cleaner? There are lots of health benefits other than weight loss. Also why are you losing weight - is there an item of clothing you want to wear again, do you want to look your best at a future event, do you want to make sure you stay active in later life? If you have a fair bit of weight to lose then it is going to take months and there will be weeks where the scales don't drop or even go up. I work with a lot of people who are losing weight and I never see a graph where the weight drops continuously.

CaptainBraandPants · 25/03/2017 07:01

Wishful Wise words from Stunt there and a positive experience from kleptronic. My less than wise words are to ask what the alternative is? Mine is to eat "normally" again and rapidly put the weight back on. Not great and in the great sweary tradition of MN, there's no fucking way I'm doing that this time.
There were several weight loss charts posted several weeks ago on a thread and none of them were linear, but the important thing is that they all had a downward trend.
Saying that, if I could stamp my foot and lose a stone, I'd do it in an instant. Grin

I forgot to buy cream yesterday, so having to have my first coffee black, which is very upsetting. DH has instructions to buy me cream whilst he's out walking the dog. In fact, I've meal planned so well that there's hardly any food in the house! I've half promised DS1 dominos tonight, but don't worry, I have got the ingredients in for my fathead pizza. I might need to share it with DH, though.

KOKO everyone Flowers

CaptainBraandPants · 25/03/2017 07:05

Here's my daft dog, doesn't exactly look ready for a walk, does she? GrinDoesn't she know I need cream.

SayrraT · 25/03/2017 07:45

Morning everyone Smile

Feeling great today, and most other days!

Have started doing the 30ds three times a week with a friend. We text in the morning to check we are ready then check in with HR when we are done. We do L1 one day then L2 then L3.

I've also really really almost got my splits and I jumped my horse over the biggest jump we've done last night. It's not very big but it was humongous to me Grin

Off out for a gallop in a few minutes then meeting OH's parents for the afternoon.

It's to be a lovely weekend here so I hope you all have good weather and enjoy yourselves pGrin

SayrraT · 25/03/2017 07:47

Oh, and I've lost another lb meaning I've lost 18lbs in the last 11 weeks. I'm 7lbs ahead of my 1lb a week for a year aim. So I am DELIGHTED Grin

BIWI · 25/03/2017 11:17

wishful - you are being a bit of a brat Grin You've still lost weight in week 3, so stop panicking! As StuntNun says, you're losing fat now, which is the really important thing. And as others will attest, on this WOE somehow it seems like the weight comes off in 'lumps', rather than necessarily consistently/linearly.

Flowers Sayrra!

@Captain - I've been whacking myself with my own stick Grin

I have another difficult week to negotiate, but I'm determined not to let it get in the way this time. I am, at least, able to get home rather than being in a hotel, so can have more control over my morning/evening meals.

OP posts:
wombattoo · 25/03/2017 13:10

Sayrra - woo hoo!
wishful I am always banging on about how clothes fit is a better indicator than the scales. Many will have seen me say before that I went for a long period with no movement on the scales, but I dropped a dress size. As Stunt has said - the scales lie.

LazydaysofSummer · 25/03/2017 21:41

Wishful - weeks 4-6 I stayed the same, put on 1lb, stayed the same, but the way I see it is I would have probably put on weight had I not been doing this WOE. I think I wasn't eating enough fat I consciously added more fat and now I'm losing again.
I do however agree weight isn't necessarily the best measurement. When I started this I wanted to lose a stone, half a stone lighter and I think I still need to lose a stone looking at the amount of fat I have. I now wish I'd measured myself and used that instead of weight.

thenightsky · 25/03/2017 22:49

bloody buggering carbs. I think I've now got an intolerance to them since cutting them out.

Today I was invited out to a friend's place for lunch of trad roast type food. I got away with approx a tablespoon of thick gravy and tblespoon of mash potato. Two sausages and a pile of veg which was mostly broccoli and sprouts.

Now, 3 hours later, I'm farting like a very windy thing. Am I allergic to carbs now forever?

CaptainBraandPants · 26/03/2017 07:38

thenightsky I think I would blame the sprouts rather than the carbs for that. Grin
Sayrra Well done Flowers
BIWI hope you aren't too bruised.

Had my lovely fat head pizza last night when all around me had dominos and didn't feel as if I was missing out at all. It was supposed to make two portions, but I only ate a quarter of it as it was so filling, so lots left over for lunches.

Good luck with the weigh in tomorrow, everyone.

CaptainBraandPants · 26/03/2017 07:39

Week 7 - Spring Low Carb Bootcamp - lucky 7 for some!
BursarsFrogs · 26/03/2017 09:28

That pizza looks lush, Captain. :)

DH got told on Friday that his blood sugars are really out of whack, and he's at risk of getting diabetes. He's on medication that increases his risk, and he has been piling on the pounds around his waist, so it's not completely unsurprising. He's got an appointment to disguss diet and lifestyle with someone at our surgery, but I'm trying to get in there with all the low carb info before they get to him!

It's not my favourite day of the year today, what with having a complicated relationship with my own mum, and being infertile. So I'm going to drink wine.

thenightsky · 26/03/2017 10:09

BursarsFrogs they will 'get to him' with low fat messages. It happened to me at the well woman clinic.

BursarsFrogs · 26/03/2017 13:51

thenightsky sadly I think so, too. I have been talking to him about low carb for ages now, though. He usually has greek yoghurt for breakfast and a fairly low carb dinner. It's just the stuff in between. Which is usually sandwiches, crisps, chocolate and donuts. I'm sure any nutritionist would agree those are good things to improve on!

wombattoo · 26/03/2017 14:26

Bursars there is so much hype around Mother's Day. I had a difficult relationship with my DM however, she died several years ago. I hope the day is not too painful you Thanks

BIWI · 26/03/2017 17:47

@BursarsFrogs - get him to read Escape the Diet Trap, by Dr John Briffa. That should really give him some insight into why low carbing is good for health generally, but for dealing with diabetes specifically

OP posts:
CaptainBraandPants · 26/03/2017 18:52

Bursars Flowers and Wine, today does seem to be a tad overhyped especially on here
I keep extolling the virtual of this woe to DH and he loves all the main meals I make (and doesn't have extra carbs), but doesn't seem interested in taking it further. It is frustrating as I think it would benefit him so much, but you can't make anyone do something they don't want to do.

Had leftover pizza for lunch and roast chicken, with mashed cheesy cauliflower, broccoli and green beans for dinner. Spoilt for choice re lunch tomorrow - more pizza or leftover chicken? Great dilemma to have. Grin

The Diet Doctor is a great site generally, so it's also worth having a read around it.

OP posts:
CaptainBraandPants · 26/03/2017 19:17

I love the Dietdoctor recipes BIWI. I think almost all my new dishes come from there. Some interesting articles, too. The one that was linked to a while back about cheating really resonated with me.

BIWI · 26/03/2017 19:28

I think the only thing about them is that a) they tend to give US measurements (e.g. cups rather than grams/ounces) and b) they're often higher carb than I'd like - so using things like onions rather than shallots.

But overall, it's really inspiring and can give you lots of ideas.
