Week 3 - Pre-summer Low Carb Bootcamp - the choice is yours!

Morning all. Sorry for the later than usual thread, but I'm away at the moment/1

Anyway, here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

As we've now completed the first two, more strict, weeks of Bootcamp you have a choice. You can move on to Bootcamp Light, (rules are on the spreadsheet tabs), which essentially means you can add in a few nuts/seeds, and some fruit (berries, and strictly in moderation), and you can have alcohol occasionally.

However, if you haven't really done Bootcamp strictly enough, or you cheated, or just because you think it's going well, you can stay on Bootcamp. (If you do, though, please make sure your carbs are mainly coming from vegetables and salad, to make sure that you're getting a good balance of nutrition)

Alternatively, you can do Bootcamp during the week but Bootcamp Light at the weekend. The choice is yours.

However, there is one thing I have to warn you about. Weeks 3 and 4 are notorious for little or no weight loss. If this happens to you, please don't panic! Just keep on keeping on and things will start to move again.

After initial big losses in the first couple of weeks, you can't feasibly expect to see that continue, and you should that weight loss settles down at around 1-3lbs a week, depending on how much you have to lose.

Good luck all! Flowers

I did the MM - sort of - with meal replacement shakes and a Med low carb dinner for a month before this bc. It was three shakes a day plus a meal so I was 'eating' regularly and never hungry. I stopped at a month before I got to an obsessive point. I'm much happier on bootcamp! Sometimes I do have not-hungry days, other days I'm ravenous!

LaserShark · 02/06/2016 14:53

saffy there was something in the Guardian the other day about the clean eating trend and how in some cases it covers up some serious food issues. I think the weirdest eating habits I ever saw was on an American episode of Wife Swap where a prepper couple ate raw chicken in anticipation of the apocalypse (when chickens would be available but not cooking facilities, I guess?) There are some odd people out there...

Veryflummoxed · 02/06/2016 14:56

Laser I need three meals. I might not want breakfast but I'll make up for it later. Yesterday I ate again after dinner, more of the same, because I'd not had breakfast. I'm not binging on this woe but I eat lots.

saffynool · 02/06/2016 15:02

That's truly grim Grin

I've been watching the media backlash against 'clean eating' with interest. I do agree that there is a lot of pretentious bullshit talked about bone broth and the like, and for most people (me included) life is just too short to think too hard about sources of bone marrow or the provenance of my agave nectar. But...given that the clean eating 'trend' is fundamentally about just eating normal, un-messed-about-with food, plenty of veg, decent meat, easy on the sugary crap, I do wonder where some of the vitriol has come from? My grandma wouldn't have raised an eyebrow at a pan of bone broth after all!

nekobus · 02/06/2016 15:34

Laser, I need 3 meals or the equivalent- if I skip breakfast because I'm not hungry then I end up having early lunch (12) and then want snacks about 5-ish as we don't usually eat in the evening until after 8, so sometimes the timings are a bit odd but I think I eat the same amount as 3 meals and don't like feeling hungry as that's why ww etc never work for me in long term as I was always hungry after all that sugary low fat crap!

WanHeda I'm loving the sound of your meals - have you done the sausage fennel one and can you share? Also recipe for Asian meatballs in broth please! Grin

WanHeda · 02/06/2016 16:21

I am making the sausage one tonight, but I can't find fennel in any of the supermarkets :( so going to leave it out and just hope it tastes ok with just fennel seed. I'll add the Asian broth recipe to the recipe thread.

nekobus · 02/06/2016 16:22

Thanks wan! Smile

IndianaJone · 02/06/2016 16:36

Just caught up with thread properly.

Flowers for those who are going through a hard time either with funerals, anniversary of loved ones, illnesses/hospital stays. Must be hard to try and do low carb during these stressful times.

Congrats on the promotion reader!

In terms of this diet I'm finding it hard this week. I don't know if it's because this is just how week 3 goes or because eating ready made burgers and outside food last few days has thrown me back because of the hidden carbs. Food has started to speak to me again...had to pull myself away from a chocolate cake today and was so tempted. Not good!

WanHeda · 02/06/2016 17:06

Nekobus, that's the meatball recipe posted :)

BursarsFrogs · 02/06/2016 17:29

I've had a busy day, and had one of those times in the city inbetween appointments, when I'd usually sit in a cafe with a giant latte and perhaps some cake. Today I found a Pret and think I did alright.

Foods today:

B: two fried eggs
L: Pret's chicken salad and black coffee
S: some LC crackers I'd made (linseed&almond) with Brussels pate.
D: will be frozen salmon cooked with cream cheese, served with spinach

ChesterDrawers · 02/06/2016 17:30

I will take both if that's ok BIWI. Just want to do this so badly but things keep conspiring against me, or so it feels excuses, excuses

In the fasting or not debate, I often skip breakfast on a weekend, but usually tend to have two larger meals rather than three normal ones, so a big brunch type thing, IYSWIM. I'm a binger so need to be careful not to get too hungry or obsessed with counting - 5:2 completely wrecked me!

Logging my food for the first time in ages:
B: none, not in the mood
L: broccoli and blue cheese sauce
S: scratchings and a couple of cheddar chunks
D: have got spag bol, but it's made with 5% fat mince which somehow found it's way into my freezer eyes fat-phobic DH with suspicion, courgetti

And, let's face it, there will be gin... Blush

Flisspaps · 02/06/2016 17:41

Today:

Breakfast - Greek yoghurt, cinnamon, blueberries
Lunch - bacon, avocado, salad leaves
Snack - strawberries (instead of the Danish pastries also on offer)
Tea - belly pork and veg, maybe some halloumi

Need to do a food shop as am out of pretty much anything I can eat Grin

AuntieMaggie · 02/06/2016 18:00

BIWI I love how you pull no punches Grin it's cheered me up

WanHeda I seem to stall for a few weeks, lose a couple of pounds then stall again and it's driving me mad!

This afternoon I have not had ice cream when I normally would have ice cream.

reader77 · 02/06/2016 18:05

Biwi, gosh that told me, eek!

Fear not. It was a one off (crap) day, I usually eat much more I promise! I knew I wouldn't be able to eat/drink as I normally do so stated on track as much as I could.

Today:

B- yogurt.

L- mushroom omelette and salad

D- mini burgers With cheese and grilled veg

Today:

WanHeda · 02/06/2016 18:14

The sausage recipe in Lean in 15 was really good, kinda glad I didn't put fennel in it though as the fennel seeds were enough for me! It made 2 generous portions, so saved the other one for lunch tomorrow.

trixymalixy · 02/06/2016 18:22

I'm struggling today. I've had an upset stomach and I would kill for a slice of toast. I feel horribly bloated.

B ham and cream cheese roll ups
L scrambled eggs with cream and butter
D chilli with cauli rice.

Flisspaps · 02/06/2016 18:33

I've just taken a look at that 'what have you eaten thread' and all I can see are carbs and low fat tat.

I was scrolling through going no, no, shouldn't be eating that, no, nope, no, you're going to be hungry later, no, ooh look more carbs!' Grin

Interestingly I've lost more weight in 2 weeks on bootcamp than in 12 months on Slimming World.

Funny how such a big shift in my mindset has happened in 2 weeks! I am hungry now though, but DH has gone to Tesco armed with a shopping list to keep me on track.

regularbutpanickingabit · 02/06/2016 18:37

Things I have learned today:

  1. Two boiled eggs with spinach makes a great breakfast on the run BUT without added fat you get the 11am slump I haven't had since starting this boot camp.
  2. Scoffing a large Tupperware box of last night's roasted veg and feta staves off those hunger pangs but only it ok you get home at 2pm
  3. Then you eat a lot of cheese
  4. And almost a whole large tub on that Greek yoghurt that's allowed.
  5. And at 6pm you are still hungry.

Interesting.
Back to scrambled eggs and cream and mushrooms in butter tomorrow!

Gcalgske · 02/06/2016 18:39

To weigh in on fasting it's not all about quantity of food, it's about resting the metabolism and resetting things to do with insulin process too (it's all far to complicated for me to keep in my head - I understand it whilst I read it) Dr Jason Fung is your man. I find I lose weight better on IF plus I'm not hungry until after lunch most days. I track on MFP sometimes and my calories and macros are the same on IF as non IF days (usually) but I have less fat dense meals on non IF days (a bit less butter etc)

princessconsuelabannahammock · 02/06/2016 18:41

Struggled today as out with the kids on a half term adventure.

B - BPC, small piece of cheese
l - 50g smoked almonds - yummy. Cheese cubes and a creamy coffee
d - bacon, cheese, avocado spinach salad

Def too much cheese today and not enough veg but was the best i could do whilst i was out. At the start i really avoided dairy but it has slipped back in and i have such a bunged up snotty feeling, i am blaming the cheese. I was eating much more asian food as that doesnt contain dairy however i was just struggling to get enough fat in.

I dont have any scales as they make me demented and weigh myself multiple times a day but my size 16s were very tight and now they are def looser. I am praying to get into my size 14 shorts and dresses before my hols in a month otherwise i have NOTHING to wear. Off to drink more water.

princessconsuelabannahammock · 02/06/2016 18:43

oh forgot also a pack of scratchings.

wombattoo · 02/06/2016 18:50

Hi everyone
Gcal Thanks
Chester I think we've been on a few bc's together. There have been times when I have sabotaged myself and don't understand why I do it. I received fantastic support at the time. Get back on track with me. We CAN do this Thanks
SingTome As above. Come on. We are on week 3. Let's crack on and reassess when we get to week 5 Thanks
kitty I'll add you now

wombattoo · 02/06/2016 18:53

kitty just enter your weight in the relevant column. Please don't touch the blue columns. Smile

LaserShark · 02/06/2016 19:56

My 5yo is keen to bring me a pain au chocolat in bed for breakfast so he can look after me Grin He can probably be persuaded to eat it for me as well though!

Have been amazingly hungry yesterday and today which surprised me as I've been so sedentary. Read online that the body requires extra calories- esp protein and calcium- to help it heal after surgery so am wondering if there is anything in that. Have craved yoghurt and cream in particular. Stayed on plan anyway:

B - Greek yoghurt and cinnamon
L - bacon, avocado and feta salad
D - smoked mackerel, buttered leeks, broccoli and green beans followed by Greek yoghurt with cream and cinnamon
S - cheese and a creamy coffee

Have been drinking a lot of sparkling water but not measured it.

WanHeda · 02/06/2016 20:09

Ok, this may be TMI, but I mentioned before that I don't get periods because of the type of contraception I am on but I got some spotting at some point in the last 2 weeks. Well, I have spotting again, except this time it is almost black? Very dark - does anyone reckon it is anything to worry about? I haven't had bleeding for about 15 years so can't really remember!
