Ask anything you want here!

Hopefully between me and some of the other experienced Bootcampers we can answer your questions.

Thanks Saffy. I've got a couple of books on paleo and like th look of it. A friend is a personal trainer and has done a nutrition course a few years ago and she spotted my books and has borrowed them and is trying it for a month. She is a lot more disciplined than me though! I do think it's going to be my goal though. To end up there. I'm doing Bootcamp till I go on holiday in mid July. Three weeks in Florida. Could be a nightmare food wise! Then I think I will Bootcamp again when I get back to get back into low carb and lose any holiday gain and thn gradually move to paleo.

wombattoo · 20/05/2016 15:41

Nate butter is fine. I have seen many low carb eater say that they eat butter slices with toppings, such as pate or marmite

StrawberryLeaf · 20/05/2016 17:45

Peng my teeth feel weird too!

I didn't put it down to this but it's exactly like you said, they feel coated in something!

stilllovingmysleep · 20/05/2016 18:03

What exactly is paleo and how is it different to LC?

Justmuddlingalong · 20/05/2016 21:27

I've been following the 'rules' on a previous boot camp thread for just over 4 weeks now. I can't believe how easy this way of eating is to follow. I footered about for a few years half heartedly attempting to lose some weight, and by following the low carb threads on mumsnet, I'm down 10lbs already. Thank you BIWI for taking the time to organise bootcamp. I for one really appreciate it. Good luck everyone.

BIWI · 20/05/2016 21:32

Thank you, Justmuddlingalong! Flowers

Saffy Welcome to the thread and thanks for the spiralizer info.

I'm impressed that your family eat courgetti, I think my teenagers and probably DH as well would mutiny if I tried to feed it to them. Grin

I like the sound of your salad but I don't think we're allowed carrot in the first 2 weeks of BC. - But I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong!

BIWI · 21/05/2016 09:38

Yes, carrot is a tricky one - but if you have it in small quantities, as I'm guessing you would be with the salad, or in the coleslaw recipe on the Ubercamp section on the spreadsheet, I think it would be fine.

I'm going to finally get my spiralizer out today and have a go with it. I'm keen on seeing if I can make something crispy and salty with celeriac. I'm going to try spiralizing it, coating it in oil and baking it. Might not work, but we'll see!

Equiem89 · 21/05/2016 09:59

I think on paleo you aren't allowed to eat dairy. Might be wrong though

stilllovingmysleep · 21/05/2016 12:08

Can I ask how courgetti are cooked once they've had the spiralizer treatment? Boiled like spaghetti? Stir fried?

wombattoo · 21/05/2016 13:16

still I'm led to believe that they are lovely fried in butter

bettyblueeyes83 · 21/05/2016 14:04

Would be grateful for any help navigating this menu. It's a friend's big birthday tonight and we're eating...Australian? Ignoring the eye-watering prices (at least I'm trying to!), what do you think will be the lowest carb offering? I don't know how many courses we'll have but suggestions for potential choices for all three would be super helpful! Grin

affinitybarsandrestaurants.co.uk/dickiefitz/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2015/05/DINNER-menu-6.pdf

I'm thinking the nettle soup or asparagus (ignoring the nuts) for a starter and maybe the Halibut plus cabbage and Parmesan for main? Is anything likely to have hidden carbs? Cheese seems the obvious answer for dessert (ignoring the crackers/chutney etc of course)?

At least I'll be saving money by not drinking...

saffynool · 21/05/2016 14:34

Yes, carrot not strictly a bootcamp veg as it is sweet, but tbh the quantities are very small in the salad. Perhaps best for bootcamp lite though Grin

Strict paleo is dairy-free, grain-free, refined sugar-free, no processed foods at all. It can be quite a bit higher in carbs though as things like sweet potatoes and the carbier fruits, even honey etc are OK in small quantities. Fundamentally it's about eating natural, unprocessed food (vaguely based on what our paleolithic ancestors might have recognised as food) rather than specifically low-carb, but obviously a low-carb version is very easy to do.

I love dairy though, so am definitely not 'proper' paleo!

Anyway, apologies for the slight hijack, KOKO with bootcamp because it is fab and you will never think about the food you eat in the same way again!

BIWI · 21/05/2016 14:55

bettyblueeyes - quite a lot of stuff that you could eat there, I think!

crudités, dips and smashed avocado sounds lovely - it doesn't say that it comes with any kind of bread, which obviously you wouldn't be able to have

Tuna tataki, avocado, ponzu - sounds good

Asparagus, soft egg, miso, macadamia - I'd have the macadamias, to be honest. They are the lowest carb nut, and I doubt there will be that many of them

Wild garlic & nettle soup, goat’s curd - this would be fine too

In terms of the main courses, the grill looks like it's your best bet:

Rib-eye on the bone, bone-marrow, lemon
Halibut, yuzu hollandaise
Lobster, wild garlic, chilli

these would all be good, with the green salad or cabbage and Parmesan salad.

Then cheese (no crackers) for afters.

Hope you have a good time! It sounds lovely! and just look at all that gin!

bettyblueeyes83 · 21/05/2016 15:21

Thanks so much BIWI! Going out to eat is always my downfall, especially if I'm drinking, so it's great to go knowing I've got good options. It's going too well to ruin it with a drink or eight so I'm keeping my eyes strictly averted from the beautiful tempting gin menu. And it does sound yummy!

stilllovingmysleep · 21/05/2016 15:22

Saffynool, thanks for explaining paleo to me. To me it sounds exactly then like the Whole30 plan I followed in March (but on which potatoes were allowed as were fruit).

saffynool · 21/05/2016 16:18

Oh yes, Whole30 is definitely full-on Paleo - too hardcore for me Grin

stilllovingmysleep · 21/05/2016 16:26

It's not that hardcore actually saffy, in fact much easier in a way than LC. But I didn't lose any weight whatsoever on whole30 which is why I'm now doing the Bootcamp.

Iamdobby63 · 21/05/2016 20:15

The other thread isn't accepting any more posts, is 1000 the limit?

Mookbark · 21/05/2016 20:31

That's weird Iam, I just posted on it, although I was 1001.

poorbuthappy · 21/05/2016 20:40

I didn't think you coin post past 1000 but I have...

BIWI · 21/05/2016 20:48

Which other thread? Confused

OP posts:
BIWI · 21/05/2016 20:56

Ah. Got it!

Here's a new thread

OP posts:
BIWI · 21/05/2016 21:18

Ignore that - we had a duplication of threads Grin

Here's the new thread

Thanks BIWI, don't know how others managed to add other posts, I had the red message at the bottom. Will head to the new thread.
