I've hit a wall

I can't face breakfast. I've forced myself to have a couple of sausages and half an avocado but the mornings are starting to feel like a real effort. Do i have to have breakfast? I'm about 2.5 weeks in. My weight loss has ground to a halt. I want to cry at the thought of another egg or this afternoons salad.

We do low carb as "standard" in this house (no bread, pasta, rice or potatoes in the house)

There is more to it than eggs and salad :D

For breakfast, why not have yoghurt? Cheese and cold meats? Green smoothie?

For dinners, we just make "normal" meals and replace the carbs with extra vegies basically, So last night we had chilli con carne, but had a pile of sweetcorn and peas instead of rice :)
Tonight we'll have sausage casserole (onions, garlic, sausges, tomatoes, stock etc), with swede and carrot mash and probably broccoli (as it's looking a bit... yellow)

We also have fajitas, either with thin omelette wraps, cloudbread or lettuce leaves :)

We love a cooked breakfast too - I have a slice of grilled bacon or a chipolata, fried mushrooms, halloumi and onions :)

DH has a giant salad for lunch with either cold chicken, sausages, tuna, cheese, peppered mackerel or boiled eggs.

He will happily eat eggs for three meals a day Hmm but I can't, I have them once a day, if I have them :)

3perfectweemen · 09/05/2016 08:27

Have you made cloud bread? I've just had it with mushroom pate it is delicious and its a quick breakfast :)

CleanDaHouse · 09/05/2016 12:58

No, please talk to me about cloud bread...

I think yoghurt is a no no at the moment. I had sausage and avocado instead of eggs. It was...functional.

Dinner will be roast pork and lots of veggies. I'm just feeling a bit over dosed on eggs/fat etc

Three tbl spoons cream cheese tbl spoon stevia or any sweeter and three egg yolks mixed well in one bowl the the three egg whites add 1/4 tsp cream of tartar whisk to they stiff and fluffy . Gently add the cheese mix folding gently then add to parchment paper in small bun sizes makes 9 buns. Cook on 150℃ for 20 minutes let cool completely the put them in a air tight container ready to eat next day. They can be froze. They last few days.

Heathcliff27 · 09/05/2016 13:39

I'm feeling the same. Two weeks in and only lost 5lb. Can't face food much today, have had two cups of coffee with cream and a chunk of cheese. Will be making chilli tonight so will have mine stuffed in half a pepper with cheese on it.

00100001 · 09/05/2016 13:40

5lb is a lot to lose in 2 weeks :)

Heathcliff27 · 09/05/2016 13:42

I suppose I was hoping for more but in the grand scheme of things I don't have that much to lose. Another 14lbs and i'd be happy.

3perfectweemen · 09/05/2016 14:16

Also for snacks if you miss crisps put small slices cheese in oven 150℃ for ten minutes maybe less depending on oven. Make sure to use parchment paper. I like to add sprinkle chilli to it b4 placed in oven. :)

We love sugar-free jelly in this house too :)

CleanDaHouse · 09/05/2016 17:05

Thanks all. Not feeling quite so bogged down this evening.

I'm wondering whether i can skip breakfast, or have a small mid morning snack. I'm just not feeling as hungry now after doing this for a couple of weeks, but come lunchtime i'm starving.

I have had leftovers from the night before for breakfast! No rules saying it has to be specific breakfast food, thats probably just a marketing ploy by the cereal companies anyway Grin

00100001 · 09/05/2016 18:48

You do lose your appetite, so combined with the hit weher it's understandable.

If you miss breakfast, just make sure you tale something sensible for later, otherwise biscuits/cakes/crisps etc are all too easy to scoff!

BIWI · 09/05/2016 22:23

You don't have to eat breakfast if you're not hungry, once you're properly into low carbing, which it sounds like you are.

You're never going to be able to stick to it if you don't enjoy the food!

saffynool · 10/05/2016 07:11

We try to low carb as standard at home too (although crisps and Diet Coke sneaks in for DP), and I almost never eat breakfast. I just can't face it first thing in the morning, and find that low -carb eating means that I actually rarely feel hungry until lunchtime anyway. So actually most days I only eat between 12-8, sometimes start even later than that if I'm busy at work!

Like BIWI says, once you're into the swing of low carb you should only eat when you're hungry, never force yourself. Some people get fat-adapted quicker than others - it sounds like you might be one of those people, so don't sweat it imo. All too often when we're eating a standard high sugar diet, what feels like hunger is actually blood sugar swings (or sometimes thirst). Low carbing stops those swings, and brings us back to our natural human state of being able to go fairly long periods without eating, with no bad side effects. We didn't evolve eating three square meals a day, after all.

Just listen to your body, eat when you're hungry, don't worry about it when you're not. Make sure you drink some water though!

HolgerDanske · 10/05/2016 07:15

Yes, a few weeks into low carbing it's quite common to not want breakfast anymore. I hardly ever have it as I only eat when I'm actually hungry.

I also eat lots of other foods for my morning meal when I do have it, not just official breakfast foods. I'll happily have leftover curry or whatever I had for dinner the night before.

ClopySow · 10/05/2016 18:35

Oh! Bloody marvellous news! It was starting to become such a chore to eat all those bloody meals. Breakfast is out then. Interestingly though, i feel really hungry at lunchtime even if i've had breakfast.

I'll take something to work to have a bit later in the morning in case i'm hungry. Any good mid morning snack suggestions?

ClopySow · 10/05/2016 18:37

I've been drinking masses of water. I've never felt so thirsty. And my blood sugar crashes in the afternoon were huge. I don't get them anymore which is amazing. My energy levels remain constant

BIWI · 11/05/2016 01:11

If you're drinking loads of water but you're still thirsty, apparently this is a sign that you should increase your sodium levels.
