Terrible bad breath

Notagainmun · 01/02/2015 10:15

DH has told me it is really bad. I have noticed my urine is smelling strong too. I drink lots of water and have good oral heigyne. What can I do! Am I eating too much protein?

Breakfast: scrambled egg and sausage

Lunch:chicken salad and mayo

Dinner: pork chop and cauliflower mashed with butter and cheese.

How long have you been doing it? It's the ketones that make your breath/urine smell - it means you're in ketosis. The smell goes away after a few days in my experience.

I think you are eating a lot, and a lot of Protein.
How about the following. Get an electric toothbrush ( my dentist says cleaning with an ordinary toothbrush versus an electric one is like the difference between a pan and brush and a vacuum cleaner. ) and a water pick. A water pick blows a jet of air between your teeth to get rid of debrie. Not cheap, but cheaper than UK Dentists. Thoroughly clean your teeth and then water pick them so they are spotless. Gargle with Oraldene and then chew gum during the day, sugar free of course.
Also go to your Gp and tell him that you have Halitosis and has he any ideas. It can be a sign of illness, blocked sinuses etc.

You don't appear to be following Atkins as you are eating potatoes. Keytones can produce bad breath.
To be honest I don't think your diet looks healthy. An ideal protein/ carb breakfast is porridge made with water, a handful of nuts and a mashed banana in it. Plus a glass of hot water with a couple of lemon slices in it. I always have a glass with lemon in it as it makes drinking water more palatable.
Lunch : small amount of tinned tuna with anything green and red ( veg)
Evening meal, piece of chicken covered with Cajun sprinkles, grilled with roasted veg. You can make parsnip chips or cut up onions, peppers add green beans etc. and put a very small amount of oil on a baking tray and bake. Or a baked potato with different fillings. We have no meat days.

And occasionally a piece of Black Forest Gateau ! Everything in moderation.

Holeinmyheart, are you aware you're posting in the low carb bootcamp section?

Notagain, are you drinking enough water? I find that constantly sipping water helps with any bad breath. Also, you might try oil pulling, which is supposed to have excellent effects on oral health.

Notagainmun · 01/02/2015 12:33

Holeinmyheart I never said I was eating potatoes. Everything in moderation is not really low carb either. I do use an electric tooth brush and floss. Thanks for taking the time to answer though.

Amaxapax Might try oil pulling as I am drinking so much water I think I might drown. Thanks.

Oops sorry. I didn't know I was posting in the Low Carb section.

There are so many sections on MUMSNET. I think it is awfully easy to get Sectioned out.
What a lovely load of garbage I just wrote. I read mashed and thought it was potato. ( blushes deeply)

It just shows you how important it is not to eat breakfast and write on MUmsnet at the same time.

Hi this link breath explains the type of breath smells you can get.

If you not overdoing the protein - say good smelly breath means fighting fat. Grin

Hmm. You wouldn't be trying to advertise on Mumsnet, would you, Blessing? Hmm

I have reported your post.

BIWI · 08/03/2015 13:14

Notagainmum - it's a key sign that you're in ketosis, which is good! It should pass soon. In the meantime, drink plenty of water and you could, as a temporary measure, get some sugar-free chewing gum.
