Evening all!

I'm setting up this thread this evening, because I have to be up and out early tomorrow morning.

So, here is the thread for you to ask any questions that you might have about low carbing.

The chat thread tends to move really quickly in the first couple of weeks, so if you post questions on there you're not always guaranteed to get an answer, as it just might not be spotted. So use this thread to post any questions.

I have a couple of itdms I'm unsure about if anyone knows?

Firstly these flavour pots. I know they have carbs but the carb per portion is 0.7 so ok on BC or BCL or best avoided.
Same question but about onion granules.

Also corned beef. I'm really fancying it could a tin be ok?

Tia

Fatstacks · 23/01/2015 14:35

Oh and monin sugar free syrups?
Obv not in BC but BCL?

I need to cancel most of the things from my Amazon subscribe n save.
I think they secretly added all the biscuits and snacks.
Wink

Thank you BIWI. I'm in!

Violettatrump · 23/01/2015 14:46

Starting tomorrow Grin

BIWI · 23/01/2015 14:48

What's a flavour pot?!

Onion granules - unlikely that they are going to be low carb, but what does it say on the pack? I'd also be avoiding, though, given that they're highly processed and we're trying to avoid foods like that on Bootcamp.

Corned beef is perfect low carb food. And there's a great recipe for corned beef hash on the recipe thread!

I have started to drink soya milk unsweetened. It says that 250ml has 0.8gr of carbs. I wonder if is ok to drink it??

Almahart · 23/01/2015 16:48

Can anyone explain fatbombs to me? I was wondering if I could be excused such a fatty breakfast if I had a fatbomb in later morning.

Would it be possible to eat less mayo etc, if I had a fatbomb a day? And I saw a recipe on an old bootcamp thread that had ground almonds int it I think, are all fatbombs okay?

Fatstacks · 23/01/2015 17:27

Flavour pots can be stock or spices that you just chuck in, I mainly use them for stuff like chinese or thai flavouring (the spices i'm less likely to have around) they are set in a jelly type stuff.
I can avoid them easy enough, I think the onion granules have carbs too.

Not that I can read it as it was out of date in 2008 when I bulk bought em at 10p per jar because they were changing the product line Blush

Love corned beef.
I shall replace ALL my sweet items with corned beef!

Thanks BIWI Flowers

Alma - why are you worrying about eating less fat? It's really important on this WOE! Eating properly is also important, not faffing around with things like fat bombs.

Fatstacks - I think you'll find that those things have sugar in them. Probably best avoided!

Supermum - that sounds OK, but just keep an eye on how much you're drinking. Your carbs should be coming in the main from veg and salad.

Is anyone else doing HIIT while on boot camp?
I had been trying to but am finding it makes me feel a bit rough and a lot more hungry Hmm

BIWI · 23/01/2015 18:09

It's because your body is in the process of switching from burning carbs to burning fat. Once you're fat-adapted you'll find exercise becomes a lot easier. Give it another week or so, and you should be fine.

But - you've also illustrated why exercise doesn't always help with weight loss. You exercise hard (and HIIT is very hard!), so you're using up energy - your body responds to this by telling you it's hungry!!!

OP posts:
Almahart · 23/01/2015 18:14

I know I need to eat lots of fat, I'm just struggling to get it into me tbh!

BIWI · 23/01/2015 18:15

In what way are you struggling? How can we help you?!

OP posts:
jmtj · 23/01/2015 18:36

Yes I would love some helpSmile
I've did low carb about 2 yrs ago and it worked a treat, I didn't exercise and the weight came off.
Started low carbing again in December and I didn't have that steady weigh loss I got first time round.
So lasts Monday I started strict boot camp and HIIT.
I am feeling that I'm bit slimmer and know the scales may not show a loss on Monday but that's fine.
I feel quesy and get headaches. I just don't feel great like I did the last time I low carbed. I don't feel like eating but I get hungry a lot. In the evenings I do get an appetite and really enjoy eating while relaxing in front of the TV. I am Trying to drink lots of water and green tea and eat when I am hungry.
I am happy to just stick at it for another week if this is normal and what to expect while doing boot camp and exercise.

mootime · 23/01/2015 18:56

Super mum - try and milk. Unsweetened. Less carbs and more palatable.

BIWI · 23/01/2015 19:03

jmtj - it's entirely normal in these early days for exercise to be an issue. It's really worth getting hold of this book which will explain it all.

If you're getting headaches then that suggests that this you need to sort your electrolytes out - you need sodium, magnesium and potassium. So eat salt, cook with salt - consider drinking a hot drink made from Oxo/Marmite and/or Bovril. And eat spinach, salmon, avocado and natural full fat yoghurt.

OP posts:
jmtj · 23/01/2015 19:25

Off to make myself a cup of bovril Smile
Could I try a smoothie made with avocado, spinach and full fat natural yogurt and sip as and when throughout the day?
I had a look at the link for the book. Is it easy to read as it looks a little technical?
I am interested in learning more about this topic and I know DH would too as he is also low carbing and is finding his usual full on exercise regime hard going too!

Supermum0203 · 23/01/2015 19:29

BIWI & MOOTIME,
Thanks to both for taken time in answering my question.

BIWI · 23/01/2015 19:29

It is easy to read - don't worry!

OP posts:
Almahart · 23/01/2015 20:25

I suppose it's about integrating fat into meals really. So a salad with lots of oily dressing is good, as is an avocado with dressing, and tonight I had low crb shepherds pie with steamed kLe and butter.

What I struggle with is the first part of the day, when I find it hard to amalgamate fat into food. So I had olives and butter for example, or egg mayonnaise, which is fine every so often, but not all the time. At those times I really struggle to eat fat, especially as I think that cheese might stall me.

Does that make sense?

BIWI · 23/01/2015 21:22

I'm not really getting why you're struggling to eat fat though! Why isn't egg mayonnaise fine every day if you want it? Or olives and butter?

Do you know that cheese stalls you? Why not just go with it and see what happens?

How about something like scrambled eggs, made with butter? Or full fat yoghurt? Or bacon and eggs? Or a cheese omelette?

OP posts:
Almahart · 23/01/2015 22:18

I was really waffling there! I suppose I am a bit sick of mayonnaise and butter, but I still think this is a fantastic woe and I feel pretty good. Just struggling to get used to it.

BIWI · 24/01/2015 09:49

Have you done much reading about low carbing? Once you understand how it works, and that fat isn't the enemy, that might help you.

And you don't have to stick with mayo and butter! Look for fattier cuts of meat, and add oily dressings to salad, etc.

OP posts:
vdibley · 24/01/2015 09:53

I thought I was doing a good job yesterday, made bolognese for the kids (minced beef, tomatoes, aubergine, courgette, onion, red pepper) and I had mine with courgette spaghetti. Weighed myself today though and I've gone up a bit. I know this can happen, but do you think this dinner is too carby?

BIWI · 24/01/2015 09:55

Without knowing quantities, I'm not sure! But onion and red pepper are carby, and tinned tomatoes can be - altogether that could have been quite a carby meal.

However, it also very much depends on what else you've been eating, whether or not you've been eating enough fat/drinking enough water, etc.

And when you say you've gone up 'a bit' - how much?! Your body weight naturally fluctuates from one day to the next anyway.
