What can I eat for lunch that I can buy from M&S and the like?

yes yes I know I should make time to prepare something the day before...
However, when rushing out to buy a lunch, what would you suggest?
Am currently eating my way through the deli section at M&S!

I can't eat another prawn cocktail - do you have any good ideas?

I seem to remember having some sort of take away Greek salad from there. Otherwise it was just blocks of cheese (they sell tiny ones by the sandwiches) and tubs of olives!

Eminybob · 07/10/2014 17:30

Quiche with a side of beetroot salad. Or chunky soup and a bread roll.

BertieBotts · 07/10/2014 17:33

Boots do various non sandwich options on their meal deals.

Pret have lots of breadless sandwiches, I should think any of the M&S salads, hot smoked salmon, nicoisse etc would work.
cocktail sausages, mini cheeses,

CillaBlacksOrangeBouffant · 07/10/2014 17:52

or the packets of ready cooked chicken etc with tikka flavourings, there are others but I can't think of them.

I'm a saddo who also carries a jar of mayo in my bag :o

ChesterDrawers · 07/10/2014 18:14

M&s do lovely packs if crispy bacon strips, processed but lovely on a salad or scoffed straight from the packet with roast chicken slices or their packs of salmon.

Finbar · 07/10/2014 22:44

I have my jar of mayo in the fridge at work !
Most of the salads I could see had pasta in them sadly.
I guess the mozzarella and sun dried Tomatoes deli salad is a no-no?

Eminybob - think you might not have seen that this is a low carb diet?

Op - ham, cold meat, salad, olives, cartons of green soup?

WrigleysBum · 07/10/2014 22:49

Sticks of cheese, marinated prawns/calamari.

Tanukisan · 07/10/2014 22:52

They do roast chicken drumsticks. That and a bag of salad, dressed with mayo. Add an avocado?

JimmyCorkhill · 08/10/2014 08:00

Watch out for the roasted chicken. They all seem to have sugar in them. Just whyyyyyyy?????

Yes to carrying mayo with you, I had it with a salmon salad in IKEA!!

pootlebug · 09/10/2014 08:05

They do poached salmon fillets - buy one of those and a bag of salad, and/or an avocado if you can find a ripe one. Or smoked salmon and salad.

They also do Olives stuffed with Feta I think.

I find M&S quite dull for low carb options, the only thing I like is the spanish meats platter which has some cheese with it too.

Pret does some lovely salads that are low-carb if you have one nearby?

Finbar · 12/10/2014 08:31

Sadly no Pret nearby.
The choice is M &s, Tesco, Boots, a pasty shop (!), sainsburys and deli (££)
Help me someone!

M&S is a pain for adding sugar to chicken. If I could I'd open a low carb lunch place. I've had nuts for lunch before and it's a bit miserable.

middlethird · 21/10/2014 14:36

tesco also add sugar to chicken, and starch!

I only looked yesterday, thought I was doing SO WELL Sad

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 10/01/2015 09:51

My go to lunch option of choice is such a scenario is a double cheese burger from mcds, minus the bun Grin

If you have a tesco (a big one?), i'd go with something like a dish of plain salad, then some meats and cheese added on, rather than attempting a pre prepped salad that could have any crap added to it?
