Time for the new thread ...

Am on iPad and have no time to link to the Spreadsheet, but please talk here! Will do links later (unless some kind soul could do them for me)

OP posts:
PeonyStick · 11/06/2014 20:32

Sorry - ready to control it .
Good luck - you can do it Thanks

pingufan · 11/06/2014 20:37

((Hugs)) locarblil I didn't want to read and run! I can't offer much in the way of advice but I know I had a wobble earlier when I got in from work and was tempted to eat something sweet. I did manage to walk away and start cooking a low carb meal and I was ok then, I don't think I'd eaten enough at lunch. I'll just hold your hand - I'm sure someone who has some advice will be along soon xx

Pisseslikeahorse · 11/06/2014 20:40

Locarbill - Hang in there, is there any chance you can get to see your GP and ask for a referral to a dietician / counsellor?
Also you could have a look at www.b-eat.co.uk, "Beat provides helplines, online support and a network of UK-wide self-help groups to help adults and young people in the UK beat their eating disorders"

Then look on the positive you've posted it on here so your ready to deal with this stuff and this totally the right place . So take a big positive from that Smile

pingufan · 11/06/2014 20:44

Funny old day today, kept thinking of 'wrong' foods as others on the office ate junk around me. I didn't really feel satisfied after lunch - I didn't feel hungry but just fancied something 'nice' all day. It's totm next week so I suspect that's it may be due to that. I've had a low level headache and I feel a bit waterlogged, 1lb up on the scales this morning :/

Today's food
B - BPC
L - tuna and lettuce swimming in oil dressing, babybel
D - roast chicken leg, mushrooms, courgette & peppers fried in coconut oil and butter

Hope you've all had a good day x

Pisseslikeahorse · 11/06/2014 20:47

Pingufan - have you had enough salt?

Locarblil · 11/06/2014 20:47

Thank you guys. Really really appreciate it.

Peony - It's just good to know I'm not the only one :) . I know what you mean about this WOE stopping deprivation. I'm definitely eating much better overall even if I'm not losing weight.

Pingu - I appreciate the hand holding!

Pisses - I've never thought of going to the GP. It's interesting actually thinking about the way I think about it as some stupid little girl problem I need to get over, that no-one else would take seriously. That beat link is amazing. There is a group near me, if I can get up the courage to go.

I hope you're all right and posting my angst here is the first step in dealing!

readyforno2 · 11/06/2014 20:55

Been pretty good today. Although I think the tonsillitis has returned Angry

B- 2 eggs scrambled with butter
L- cauliflower cheese with salad
D- chicken thigh with garlic butter, broccoli and mushrooms fried in butter with a splash of double cream
Loads of water too. Although one quick question which may sound stupid. Now that my weight is lower should I drink less water?

I have discovered a garlic, chilli and salt grinder. It was on B&M for about £1.50 and it's fab. So easy..

pingufan · 11/06/2014 20:56

Could be that I haven't had enough salt actually, I never add it to food ( I stopped when the children were small and we've gotten used to everything with no salt) thanks for the suggestion, I'll try to remember to add it when I'm cooking x

pingufan · 11/06/2014 21:01

Doesn't more salt make you retain water though? I had a really salty (to me) meal last night, it was bacon, I wondered if that's why I was 1lb up this morning

lowcarbforthewin · 11/06/2014 21:01

Locarblil that sounds really scary. I can recommend Overeaters Anonymous. Some counsellors do hugely reduced fees. And writing a journal can be helpful. For me back in the earliest days of binge eating I got out of it by planning the nicest meals I could. So I would say 'if I don't have this chocolate bar now I can have some roast chicken for supper with x,y,z' - basically whatever was healthy but also really tasty.

I can also recommend a meditation app on emotional eating by Andrew Johnson, it is fantastic. It has really helped me.

antimatter · 11/06/2014 21:03

CAUTION - this post contains discussion of cheating/failing so don't read if it triggers you to eat

I am having wobbles, hell I have fallen off the wagon too (only 9 days ago for 24 hours).
I felt terrible. It was caused by stress with my car - I thought I would need to write off my current one and my dd had a bump on her leg from a car she walked under.

I felt this enormous push towards carbs. In 24 hours I ate much more than what you written down. I disliked what I did. I want to emphasize change in wording - I didn't hate myself. I decided not to punish myself and just draw a line and start strict bootcamp again.

I think you can change your attitude towards failure. Don't make yourself miserable if you do. Just decide there and then not to repeat it again.
Prepare suitable snacks for those wobbly moments. Plan for 3 meals a day. Within 48-72 hours you are going to stabilise your insulin responses and feel much calmer.

I think it is important to recognise this push towards something comforting, say to yourself - stop, I know what that feeling is and maybe have a drink of water or a slice of cold salted butter (works best for me).

That emotional reaction to stress which we learned to soothe with carbs is what's pushing us towards eating mindlessly.

I had a look at book [[https://wordery.com/eat-drink-and-be-mindful-susan-albers-9781572246157?currency=GBP&gtrck=dU1tRHFja1pGUllKY00ydGt5cmF6bGo0ZkdpOGNqQVNOZHc1NndNWnVyST0&gclid=CjkKEQjw_N-cBRD2k73X3OjJ8eMBEiQAbdPic5IOa0srCED2plKilXgrYCxmsq_f1mEXXSZtYq6pnubw_wcB]] in the bookshop today.
I think both me and you could benefit from reading it Smile

When I fallen off the wagon I put on 5 punds back over those 24 hours, I managed within week to lose it and one pound more too!

When I was eating those toasts and biscuits I felt numb, almost as if I didn't want to register what I was doing.

Try not to hate yourself for losing control. Try to stop and think and maybe even leave house for 10 min (or more) or go to the garden and talk to yourself that it will pass and it does!

antimatter · 11/06/2014 21:04

book about mindful eating

Pisseslikeahorse · 11/06/2014 21:17

Pingufan - You need the salt as your taking in such high amounts of water you wash it out of your system, also its a need for the potassium and sodium due to the WOE. Have a look back at week one as it was explained properly with the science.
If you've still got the headache then go for drinking a stock cube or some dioralyte its also an excellent hangover cure
Ive been putting 'low salt' on everything as Im training lots and having to up the vast amount of water, hence my nickname Grin

antimatter · 11/06/2014 21:17

lowcarbforthewin - list of ingredients is indeed very long
I have friend who works as a food scientist and biotech companies work on creating those ingredients from plants
I looked at all of them and IMHO they don't look that scary. It is US label and they have different regulations re:labeling of food than we do in EU hence list of ingredients which on products in UK may look more innocent.
I'll ask her if there's any online source to understand what those differences are

I also don't like crisps but would try that one you linked.

BIWI · 11/06/2014 21:25

BunsandRosess

Hi all, I haven't joined the bootcamp as I'm just starting out and don't have that much to lose. I'd just like to be a bit healthier and cut out the main carbs ( bread, rice an grains). I've just started today and wondered if anyone can say if it's a good start to eating a low-carb diet.
Thanks

Breakfast- banana omelette (2eggs+1big banana)

A banana really isn't great on a low carb diet - it's very carby

Lunch - Crayfish and tomatoes with lemon and olive oil

snack - 1 piece of 70% cocao and an apricot
half an iced latte

A really carby snack - lots of carbs especially in the latte as well as the fruit and chocolate

dinner - homemade burger (mince beef, garlic, chilli, red onion and paprice cooked in coconut oil), sweet potato chips (oven roasted in coconut oil) and lettuce and tomatoes. Also a big dollop of shop bought mayonaise blush (i can't give it up).

Apart from the sweet potato this is fine. And no need to Blush about the mayonnaise. As long as the carbs are low, it's fine - what are you concerned about? If it's the fat, then no need to worry. A low carb diet is a high fat one!

is that okay? Do I need to calorie count it all too?

Depends how near your target weight you are - it's a good idea to keep an eye on your portion sizes

oh and later I will probably have a handfull of pistachios and maybe another slice of 70% chocolate.

Again, this could add up to quite a lot of carbs over the course of your day

Thanks again.

It's really a bit difficult to advise you, as you're not joining Bootcamp! If you haven't got much weight to lose then you may not need to be as strict as other people. However, if you're wanting to eat low carb, then your day isn't especially low in carbs when you take everything into account

Locarblil · 11/06/2014 21:35

Thank you guys. helps so much to talk to people who understand.

Lowcarb - I've not heard of overeaters anonymous, will look into that too. Am shopping tomorrow so will buy delicious low carb food & try and draw a line.

Anti - that sounds awful - hope your daughter is OK. You're right about the drawing a line. What's done is done & it helps to know I'm not the only one struggling (sorry!). I've drunk 2 more litres of water this evening, and it has lifted my mood (altho I do wonder if water=weight loss is entirely down to the number of times I have to go upstairs to the loo!.) That book has amazing reviews. This stuck out for me "the key to changing the way you eat is not discipline over what is on your fork, but mastery over your hungry mind."

BunsnRosess · 11/06/2014 21:38

Ahh okay. For some reason I thought that Paleo and Lo-carbing were really similar. I think I need to go back and revise my lists of what you can/can't eat and decide which way I want to go! Thanks for the feedback. I want to lose around 10 pounds, is that a lot/not much??

Thanks again.

SarahBeenysBumblingApprentice · 11/06/2014 21:59

Locarblil haven't really got much to add as you've had such good advice already but I wanted to give you some Thanks. It's a silly little mind game but when I'm craving something, I promise myself that I can eat it if I still want it in the morning. Of course, in the morning, I feel better and I can start the day again.

Bird/Lowcarb thanks for the recipe ideas, it all helps! I find it really easy to get stuck in a rut - if I find something I like, I'll eat it again and again and again for about three weeks and the end of it I'm thoroughly bored and have also forgotten that other food existed. (I'm currently putting sumac and smoked garlic in everything)

Today:

B: BPC
L: 2 pepperamis, an egg, salad. pork scratchings.
D: courgette fritters, coriander mayo, roast courgette, aubergine and shallots with cumin, coriander, cinnamon and sumac, salad.

3 coffees with almond milk. Somewhere over 3l water (I stop counting at 3l)

antimatter · 12/06/2014 06:25

Locarblil - I am glad you are feeling better, knowing that others struggle in the same way with temptation of old habits is reassuring to me too.
It shall pass, it shall pass - I am humming to myself Grin

Now I wish I bought that book yesterday Smile it was made of lists and check points and lots of strategies to use.

My dd just got 2 big bruises on her shin (lits of frozen peas and onion went on it for a day or so). I was worried sick anyway as she is doing her GCSE's and we can't afford her to be ill!

SayraT · 12/06/2014 08:02

locarblil nothing to add but thank you for sharing. Many of us have felt like that or done similar I am sure but like anitmatter said try not to hate yourself. Put it behind you and we will all help you back on the wagon.

It sounds like lowcarb had some good suggestions, maybe next time you feel like having a binge you could come here and tell us how you are feeling and we can try and help you deal with it?

bunsandroses there are some good links on the speadsheet at the bottom which will tell you all about LCing and what you can and can't eat on this WOE. I don't think that 10 lbs is much to lose but that's because I've got 65 lbs to lose Grin

I am totally converted to BPC, I love it Grin it is much nice than coffee with just cream.

B: BPC, fried egg
L: Leftover taco bake, little gem lettuce, cucumber sticks, some pepper sticks
D: TBC
S: FF yogurt with a few blueberries, babybel

Oh, has anyone else seen the new babybels? You get gouda and cheddar now as well as the normal ones. The cheese is not a good as "real" cheese but I like it cause they are easy to take to work as a single portion. I've only seen them in one shop so far, the cheddar is purple wax and the gouda orange wax.

Supermum0203 · 12/06/2014 08:06

Morning sweet LC ladies..!!
BIWI. ANTIMATTER, BIRDINACAGE and CQ, thanks ever so much for your replies.
I coudnt post anything yesterday due to a different things....:(
Anyway I'm starting work in about 2 mins, when I finish I will catch up with everybody.:)
Have a great day all of you..!!!

pingufan · 12/06/2014 08:11

Morning all, poor nights sleep - I wondered if it was because I fried my veg in coconut oil last night - I was still wide awake at 1am feeling pretty wired.

I have dull backache this morning in the kidney area :/ I am drinking lots of water so not sure what this may be - I'll try & up it a bit more as I'm noticing my urine is quite dark still.

Usual menu for me today
B - BPC & Babybel
L - two boiled egg & salad with oil & mayo
D - probably roast chicken & something

Have a good day everyone x

antimatter · 12/06/2014 08:30

pingufan some ppl say that coconut oil gives them a lot of extra energy
I remember now that after having it at 8 pm 2 days ago I was up till 1 am even though I was exhausted!

SayraT - I have been buying various flavours of babybel at least 8 years ago (in Waitrose), I thinjk there are 4 falvours, I've never noticed green one though.

Week 6 - Low Carb Bootcamp - Drawing a Line Under It
pingufan · 12/06/2014 09:12

Ah there we go then, it could very well have been the coconut oil keeping me awake!

lowcarbforthewin · 12/06/2014 09:47

I just fried my eggs in pork fat. Wow.
Locarblil hope you hsve a better day. Just say to yourself 'just for today I will not binge'. Don't try to tackle more than today. Can you think of some distractions for if the urge strikes you?
