Morning campers!

Sorry for the late start. But what with it being the Bank Holiday and everything, I didn't have to set my alarm.

Anyway, you can now sign into the weight tracker

And a quick reminder of the rules:

You aren't allowed to eat:

potatoes
pasta
rice/noodles
bread
sugar
flour

And for the first two weeks you can't eat fruit or drink alcohol

The idea behind Bootcamp is that whilst it should be strict (and therefore, hopefully, work!) that it should also be easy - therefore there is no weighing or counting of anything. Just ten rules that you need to follow.

And here are the rules of Bootcamp (the first two weeks)

1.Eat three, proper meals a day.

You must eat breakfast. It doesn’t have to be a lot, but you must have something. For the rest of the day, if you’re eating enough food and you are in ketosis then you shouldn’t be hungry. But if you are hungry, eat something. (Hard boiled eggs make a great snack)

2.Avoid processed food,

and focus on pure, natural protein as the basis for your meals – meat/fish/eggs. Things like sausages, ham, bacon, pre-prepared burgers etc should be avoided as much as possible. Avoid foods marketed as low carb, e.g. Atkins Daybreak bars.

3.Maximise your fat intake.

Fry in butter, add butter to vegetables, eat salad with a home-made vinaigrette dressing (not made with balsamic vinegar though), add mayonnaise where you can (just check the carb count on your mayo first). Eat fattier cuts of meat – e.g. pork belly, roast chicken with the skin on and/or eat the fat off your lamb chops. Absolutely no low fat/light foods of any kind!

4.Make sure you are eating vegetables and salads with your food

This is where your carbs should come from. But choose only those vegetables that are on the allowed list. You don’t have to weigh/count carbs – this is one of the great joys of this WOE (way of eating), but if you’re new to low carbing it can be helpful to weigh your portions of veg in the early days, just so that you know how many carbs are in the sort of portions that you like to eat

5.Minimal dairy

(Apart from butter, which is unlimited). If you are drinking tea/coffee with milk or cream, try to restrict yourself to max 2 cups per day. You may eat cheese, but only in small amounts.

6.You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day.

"The more weight you have to lose, the more water you should drink. This is from www.low-carbdiet.co.uk/. Water is essential to weight loss for those who eat low-carb. The minimum consumed in a day should be:

Your Weight----Litres
140lbs-----2.5
160lbs-----3.0
180lbs-----3.0
200lbs-----3.5
220lbs-----3.5
240lbs-----4.0
260lbs-----4.5
280lbs-----4.5
300lbs-----5.0
320lbs-----5.5
340lbs-----5.5
360lbs-----6.0
380lbs-----6.5
400lbs-----6.5

High levels of ketones in the blood stream can lead to a reduction in ketone production, therefore being well hydrated could aid in keeping the levels low and ketone production ongoing. Consuming enough water can have many other positive side effects: aids your kidneys with the processing of protein, reduces the retention of water, helps with preventing constipation, and reduces the levels of ketones released by your breath, which in-turn will reduce breath odour.

However, drinking a lot of water can mean that you also need to keep an eye on your electrolyte balance. You need to make sure that you are consuming sufficient sodium and potassium. On a low carb diet we can eat more salt, so make sure that you are cooking with salt and adding salt to food, if you like it. Good, low carb, sources of potassium are spinach (raw), avocado, mushrooms, courgettes and asparagus, as well as salmon and yoghurt.

7. No alcohol

Alcohol is the easiest source of fuel for the body to burn, so it will always use this first before it starts to burn any fat - which is why you need to restrict it, especially in the first two weeks of Bootcamp, when we are encouraging the body to stop using carbs for its source of fuel and turn to fat-burning instead. If you really can't do this - at least try and restrict it to the weekend. Vodka with soda is the best thing to drink. Or Champagne, red wine or dry white wine.

8. No fruit.

Really. Seriously. Honestly. None at all. Zilch. Nada. After Bootcamp you will be able to introduce certain fruits, but at this stage fruit is simply too carby. We are also trying to break the addiction to sweet things, so cutting fruit out is part of this process. If you are getting all your carbs from vegetables and salad, you will be getting all the nutrients and fibre that you need.

9. No nuts/seeds.

In Bootcamp Light these are a great snack, but they can very quickly add a whole load of carbs to your day, so they are best avoided during Bootcamp

10. No sugar or artificial sweeteners.

Sugar is an obvious ‘no no’, but artificial sweeteners are also an issue. One of the aims of this way of eating is to eat pure and natural foods, so including sweeteners is not recommended. Some people find that artificial sweeteners can impede their weight loss, and there is some suggestion that your body can respond to sweeteners as if they were sugar, by releasing more insulin - and therefore laying down fat.

Given that the aim of Bootcamp is to help us lose our sweet tooth and addiction to sweet things, then it is a good idea to avoid sweeteners altogether in this first two weeks.

You might find it useful to print these rules out and stick them on the fridge, or somewhere handy.

And, although I'm not sure what's happening about the spreadsheet this time, have a look at the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness at the tabs on the bottom, there is loads of useful information

notamonkey spoonful of double cream, or I did make a low carb hot choc last time I was going insane. I used water and cooked the cocoa in it - make sure it's just cocoa though.... I added a really good slug of cream and I had also put in vanilla from the lidl deluxe pods. Essence would be fine. It's not sweet but it's uncshus. (sp Hmm) and smells right and leaves you with the texture you want failing that find a brick wall and smash face repeatedly off it, oh I didn't but I wanted to keep yourself as full as possible, don't worry if you're overeating on the right foods for now, you can easily tackle that once this has passed. And this will pass. It's important not to cave in at this point, because it's basically like having a fag once you've quit - re evoking the addiction.

trashcanjunkie · 06/05/2014 19:05

sayra there's been no fucking orgasmic duck in my lidl for weeks now! What the actual hell?

Lighthousekeeping · 06/05/2014 19:05

Anyone tried the Morrisons cauliflower rice yet?

linesandlines · 06/05/2014 19:06

Oh. Is BPC only OK if you're maintaining? I thought you couldn't really have too much fat with this woe, but because that's so alien to everything we're told, it takes some getting your head around, and ideas like that make me waver.

So: can we eat as much fat as we like or not? Presumably it'll never be that much as it's so filling.

Also, my mum brought round a load of rhubarb from her allotment. Would that be acceptable with some truvia once in BC Light?

linesandlines · 06/05/2014 19:07

Also, any MN old lags know if it's possible to go straight back to where you were up to in a thread without having to scroll back & forward looking for the right spot to catch up, please?

Hissy · 06/05/2014 19:11

Use the bookmark button lines

prettybird · 06/05/2014 19:12

On a PC/laptop, you can "watch" the thread and it'll show you where you were. You can then bump and reset periodically. Doesn't work on the app at least the old one I still use - you can watch the thread but it doesn't remember where you were.

teawithlemon · 06/05/2014 19:20

Evening all, hope second LC day went well? Personally am feeling a bit euurgh, carby fluey headachy sickly yuckiness. Nearly finished 2L water, haven't eaten what was planned
B- herbal tea
L- cheesy celery (again)
S- mince with courgette and salad
Not got much of an appetite, feel bloated, wasn't like this last time I did bc.

GuyMartinsSideburns · 06/05/2014 19:25

Peony When you put it that way I guess I might aswell tackle all the madness in one go! Im a bit 'eeek' about the training and what have you though... I had a lab when I was younger and he was the best dog ever but obv my parents dealt with all the poo etc Grin Ooh youre lucky renovating your house, we're in a already-cramped-to-the-ceiling 2 bed but I figured I could handle it for another year or two whilst we save up a deposit. I long to be in my dream house.

Havent had a bad day today, been drinking lots of water and have also done lots of walking so at least that's something Smile Just wish this belly would piss off

notamonkeysuncle · 06/05/2014 19:29

felix ive used the same amount of cheese as I would for a sandwich and have got about two portions of chessy crisps.
Definitely what I needed!
Now time to do a meal plan ready for tomorrow's shop

StringBeanJean · 06/05/2014 19:39

Hi all - day 2 down and feeling a bit crap here, headachey and tired. Knowing we are all in this together is keeping me strong!

Am enjoying reading what you've all been eating, and shall be stealing recipes left, right and centre.

As for me:
B - Greek yog and coffee with cream
L - smoked salmon and scrambled eggs
D - think will be warmed up creamy chicken and leeks from t'other day with cabbage pan fried in lashings of butter and garlic. Yum.

IF my darling toddler ever goes to sleep, that is...

fukkigucci · 06/05/2014 19:54

Hi All,

Is the spreadsheet of fabulousness up and running? For some reason I can't open it...

lowcarbforthewin · 06/05/2014 19:56

Good day here.
Breakfast bacon and eggs
Lunch a low carb sausage and some veg
Snack kale crisps
Supper sprats and a salad and some Greek yogurt with coconut cream

The yogurt and cream was lovely. I have some orange blossom water lurking somewhere and I think that would be great with yogurt too. I've been much less hungry today than normal, and had fewer cravings, it's amazing how good upping fat levels is.

No carb flu for me because I was low carbing already but I just wanted to say if you have it, stick with it, it does pass and then gets much easier. I think days 3-6 for me were hideous when I first started this but day 7 I felt like a different person.

ForeskinHyena · 06/05/2014 20:00

2nd day of managing a full 2 litres of water, thanks to my genius plan of marking a big bottle with a marker pen at hourly intervals. Honestly, anyone who is struggling to fit it all in, this works!

I've done pretty well. Leftover chicken & veg soup for lunch and salmon with creamed swede, broccoli, baby corn, butter fried mushrooms and mayonnaise. 'Twas lush.

Breakfast not strictly on plan, sorry BIWI Blush (a LC shake as I still felt nauseous from being ill at the weekend and couldn't face eggs etc) but still on the right track so I'm feeling pleased so far. Last time I think I only managed one day before caving and scoffing cake!

bellediva · 06/05/2014 20:00

Haven't eaten much today because I seem to have come down with some bug. I've had loads of water and green tea, along with a yoghurt and some tuna salad. Reckon I'll be heading to bed soon....I feel like death! Hope everyone has had a successful low carb day today! Seems like most have made a great start.

ForeskinHyena · 06/05/2014 20:02

Btw, I know I didn't invent the idea of marking the bottle Smile

lowcarbforthewin · 06/05/2014 20:16

Anyone else find the more they drink, the thirstier they get? If I don't make an effort to drink I can easily get by on a couple of glasses a day and not feel thirsty at all. Push that to drinking several glasses and I'm constantly reaching for more.

FelixFelix · 06/05/2014 20:23

lowcarbforthewin I'm exactly the same. I've been so thirsty today despite drinking loads more than usual. Wondering if ill ever go longer than 15 minutes without needing the loo Grin

PeonyStick · 06/05/2014 20:26

This is so much fun - loving it ! ( the chit chat - not necessarily the woe - although that is pretty brilliant ) . No, haven't had too large a gin -just shattered from DD3's new birthday doll crying in the night - I shit you not !,
So - fuckery I like your commitment to the marmite cause!
sayra and trash - it's the same here..... The last stocks in my freezer have run out of duck . I think they may have stopped doing it Shock we do need to wrestle crabby if whatever fishy madness thread she is on and get her busy Grin

harderthanitlooks · 06/05/2014 20:28

I'm loving this woe. I'm sitting down to a dinner of sirloin steak and crumbled blue cheese with mushrooms and greens in garlic butter. Yum!

ImSoOverIt · 06/05/2014 20:34

Belle diva it will pass. I was feeling ropey as hell yesterday and really nauseous and crap this morning even, but this pm it seems to have lifted - and I even managed a forty minute evening swim in our local outdoor pool which was glorious!

I also felt a lot sharper mentally this afternoon - I had to deal with some busy/tricky situations at work and I felt a lot more on it than when I am being a carby twat and get my post lunch slump.

Today:

B - eggs in a cup and bp coffee
L - Greek salad
D - roasting up some veg and I will make a frittata with salad.

ImSoOverIt · 06/05/2014 20:35

That sounds yummy harder and I don't even eat meat! Smile

NeverHadANickname · 06/05/2014 20:36

I know people have been talking about no carb flu and stuff but I haven't cut anything out today I'd normally have, just eaten more protien, fat and more water but I feel really rough, got a bad head and feel sick. Is this jus coincidence?

Locarblil · 06/05/2014 20:37

OOh, fellow carb flu sufferers. I had some salty broth a few minutes ago. Was very sceptical that it would work but am suddenly feeling tons better!

NeverHadANickname · 06/05/2014 21:04

I've just been sick Sad if this isn't normal I must have caught something but I never get ill. I'm going to try and sleep now I don't feel so sick.

I'll come back for a read tomorrow and hopefully stick at it.
