Failing to plan is planning to fail
I know it's cheesey, but it's absolutely true!
Low carbing isn't an easy way to eat, because the world is set up for carby twats.
Just think about it. Every time you go into town, or up the high street, or travel anywhere on a train or a plane - look around you. If you want anything to eat, it's all carbs. Sandwiches, pasties, burgers, chocolate, pastries, cookies ...
At work you're not protected from it. How many times a month do you have tea and cakes in the afternoon because someone is leaving/having a birthday/had a baby, etc?
Think about what you have in stock at home for a quick snack. It's probably biscuits, or bread for toast/a sandwich, or a packet of crisps.
So - you need to be aware of this, and make sure that you are planning your food. You don't have to get into meal planning if you don't want to, but you do need to think ahead more than you might have done before. Make sure that if you're travelling, you have something to hand to eat, or you know where you can get something (M&S Food are pretty reliable - you can buy individually wrapped portions of cheese, or sliced cold meats, or prawns, etc, and Pret-a-Manger do a couple of salads that are relatively low carb)
It is really helpful to think through what you're going to cook for the week ahead, and make sure that you're serving meals that you really like to eat, and that aren't going to end up with you cooking one thing for you and one thing for the rest of the family.
Have a look at the recipe thread for some really good ideas for family meals. If you're used to cooking pasta or rice-based meals, it's a good time to consider switching away from those. The rest of the family will never notice! But I can guarantee that if you start cooking something like spaghetti for them and having something different for yourself, you will soon get resentful (as well as irritated by having to cook more than one meal!)
The other thing to think about is how often you serve up carbs to the whole family. Do you always need potatoes, for example? There's no reason why you shouldn't drop the potatoes for an extra, low carb vegetable, or replace them with a salad. (With an oily dressing, of course!)
