Week 4 Low Carb Bootcamp - Keep on keeping on

BIWI · 03/02/2014 08:28

Morning.

I see that some of us are struggling.

I see that there is a lot of cheating.

Hmm. I wonder if there is a connection Grin

Seriously folks, this is not a terribly forgiving WOE. The idea of Bootcamp Light was to give you a bit more flexibility, but not to send you spiralling into a chocolate and alcohol-fuelled frenzy!

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness or on your own personal Weight Tracker

Remember that weight loss may stop in weeks 3 and 4 - sometimes 5. It takes this long for your body to become keto adapted, i.e. to switch fully from carb-burning to fat-burning.

And if you're continually pushing up your daily carb intake, all you are doing is delaying this process

Hope you all have a good week.

Aaagggghhh toddlers everywhere - niece/nephew staying for a sleepover so that gives me 3 DC under 5 tonight .... And they are going crazy !

Can't wait for bath time and toddlers in bed so I can release my inner gin weirdo ... Just the one biwi !

BIWI · 08/02/2014 18:38

I know changing room mirrors are evil. Which is why I mostly avoid them Grin. Sadly, though, what couldn't escape my eyes was the flab around my torso. I know that I have abs of steel from all the training I'm doing. It would be quite nice to actually be able to see them.

Think I have to have a good long talk with myself and just get on with it properly from now on. We're out to dinner tonight, but thankfully the restaurant menu looks brilliant for low carbing.

What do you mean by et on with it properly BIWI, is there anything we can do to increase the loss

ElBombero · 08/02/2014 19:02

quick help!

Dh is en route to the Indian. I want to be strict as strict can be, so have declined.

But, id murder a lamb korma. So thats meat, coconut, almonds, cream. Is there any reason not to have just a korma? Am I missing anything?

Dont want a 'cheat day' So far have been angelical except for the G&T in my hand, so if I have one it must be acceptable.

Thanks x

LittleMissDisorganized · 08/02/2014 19:15

BIWI would you encourage any of us to talk like that?? Really?
I know we all have our own goals, and maybe given that mine is to get back into a smallish size 16... maybe my thoughts are rubbish to you. But to be talking about flab with far-to-go at a size 8/10... is this connected to weight? Or something else?? My big stick is more about...do you really believe that, and think that's healthy??

DH tried to do my measurements earlier and got 5cm more than last week round by waist and 5cm less round my hips. We left it til later because the "tape measure wasn't working" Hmm - obviously, a common problem with tape measures. Maybe it'll be working better tonight.... Grin

ImATotJeSuisUneTot · 08/02/2014 19:29

Chicken and Kale stir fry for tea. Delicious!

BIWI!!! Shock

Ruprekt · 08/02/2014 20:00

((Beats Biwi with her own stick and a boot up the arse for good measure))

If any one of us posted what you did, you would be cross.

How tall are you?

I would look shocking as a size 8!!!!! Big feet and boobs here. SmileSmileSmile

CrabbyWinterBottom · 08/02/2014 20:11

Shouting my shit again as too tired drunk to read back. Will do in the morning, promise.

Here's the steak mushroom sauce recipe.
feastwithoutregret.wordpress.com/2014/02/08/steak-in-sherry-mushroom-sauce/

SarahBeenysBumblingApprentice · 08/02/2014 20:52

Crabby I've just had a look at your blog and that timings chart is quite simply the best thing I've seen all day and a brilliant visual representation of everything I try to get across to DH about cooking! (I need to do one for eggs, beans and toast- he struggles with that)

Shouting shit:
Brunch: 3 egg, shallot mushroom and tomato scramble in butter
D: steak salad with Mayo (ate out) 50ml wine.
S: 6 pistachios, 2 coffees with cream.
No idea how much fluid today! It feels like enough though, unusual for me.

Hope everyone has a good Saturday night.

Lighthousekeeping · 08/02/2014 21:16

I would think a korma would be alright but, the butter chicken better. I'd have it with spinach.

monkeyfacegrace · 08/02/2014 21:27

Booooo, well, I resisted the Indian and had sprouts and pork belly fried in butter. Then it all went tits up and Ive had 5 custard creams. But they were gooooood Smile

So today,
B: Pork loin and 2 fried eggs
L: Chicken drumsticks
D: Sprouts and pork belly in butter
Snacks: Jelly and double cream and custard creams.

Not too bad for a Saturday.

Ruprekt · 08/02/2014 22:11

Ambassadoryouarespoilingme · 08/02/2014 22:38

Hi all
I've been seriously good all week, and the scales have been steadily chugging downwards in tiny amounts. Then I really cocked up.... Very busy Friday, not enough water ( and I need gallons of water to keep migraines in check) but Friday night started with prosecco and nibbles at a friend's house and wine seemed to replace water.... Well although the food was fairly low carb ...steak, salad, berries, the gallons of wine did me no favours. Shamefully I was sick several times today and have eaten virtually nothing until tonight's roast pork and salad. What an idiot.... Have screwed up my diet, wasted a whole day feeling rubbish and put myself in no fit state to do my 10k road race tomorrow.

I'm very cross and ashamed of myself.

GatoradeMeBitch · 08/02/2014 22:43

Mm, dinner went wrong. I was supposed to do something chicken-y but just didn't fancy it. By 9pm I thought I'd better eat something, so I plonked the contents of a can of corned beef on a plate (I did intend to put the leftovers in the fridge!) with a big wedge of mozzarella that had a sell-by of yesterday. It was ok for a few bites, then I spotted a weird black something in the corned beef and couldn't eat anymore. I finished with a piece of cheddar. Really not good...

I just wrote a really long whiny post, basically about how I want to eat chips followed by doughnuts when I'm away next week. It turned into an inner self conversation about why I can't have chips and doughnuts, and I think I've talked myself back on track. I've lost 10lbs, the scales have agreed on that for a couple of days now and part of me feels like I should get a bit of leeway because of that - which is not rational given how much I need to lose.

I also think I may have had a bit of an intervention this evening, because my farmer friend is going away too, so she dropped off 24 eggs for me.

EvaTheOptimist · 08/02/2014 22:45

Chester its quite possible that the effects of the food you eat are not instantaneous on this WOE - therefore you're down 1lb because the dairy-free days got your body's systems into a better readiness to burn fat, and after that it didn't matter so much whether you had a bit of dairy or not?

LittleMiss 11lb off so far is AMAZING so hold on to your pride in that achievement while you battle your low feelings. Hope you feel more cheerful soon.

Monkeyface next time order a curry (no rice, no naan) that's one of the pleasures of this WOE, that you can eat curry!

Hmm BIWI - I think most of us are finding it hard to believe that someone size 10 can be displeased looking in changing room mirrors. ALTHOUGH those mirrors are the very devil. I don't know why shops do it, it should be in their interests to give a flattering reflection. There are NO other mirrors anywhere so unflattering.

I went shopping today too - as all my trousers are way too baggy again. The now-baggy trousers were bought last November, in my last baggy-trouser crisis... This WOE is pricey! I have to say it was pure pleasure, and trouser-buying has never been pleasure for me ever. I was entirely happy with my reflection, I must say. Normally I am lucky to find a pair of trousers that even fits, let alone any other considerations of style. Today I tried on a pair of jeans - "Hmm they look good - I'll get them." Next pair of trousers - "Hey, they look great - I'll get them". Next pair - "Hey, they look AMAZING - I'm going to have to make actual choices based on style here; and those "merely good" ones are not necessarily going to be picked". Shopping has never been like this for me. This is the joy of having stuck to this WOE, if anyone can get any encouragement from this experience! I'm now a 14-sometimes-a-12. Last year I was size 18-20.

GatoradeMeBitch · 08/02/2014 22:49

monkeyface are we allowed jelly? I would love jelly and double cream!

I am considering bootcamp lite on weekends - berries would be lovely. I think I'll do bootcamp proper till weigh-in day, but then allow myself berries on the weekend.

EvaTheOptimist · 08/02/2014 22:53

Ambassador really good luck in the race tomorrow.

Forgot to say, my mum came to visit today, almost the first thing she said (quite aggressively) was "Are you still on that diet? Did you see the Horizon programme?"

We did manage to talk more calmly about it a bit later. I outlined my plan to stay on it for 6 more weeks then attempt to maintain my weight. Which is NOT going to involve a head-first into carbs. "Well will you be eating fruit then?"

GatoradeMeBitch · 08/02/2014 22:54

Wow Eva that's fantastic! I'm 18-20 now. Can I ask how long you've been on this WOE and also if you've stuck to it faithfully? (I hope that's not cheeky!)

EvaTheOptimist · 08/02/2014 23:08

Since May 2013 Gatorade so that's 9 months. Its come off completely gradually - I am the poster-girl for 1lb a week average or slightly less (gained some weeks). I have definitely stuck to it faithfully - I can think of only 7 off-piste moments during those 9 months (if you count Christmas day and Boxing day together as one!). No cheating here!

GatoradeMeBitch · 09/02/2014 00:06

Thank you, that's really useful to know. I know my experience can't be exactly the same as yours, but I do love the thought of being able to wear a 12-14 by Christmas!

I feel much healthier already, only one month in. A month ago I felt like I was straining at the seams! I had joint pain in my knees and neck, I would come home from a 25 minute walk from town red faced and needing to collapse into a chair, I could get out of breath walking up the stairs, and I regularly had a racing heartbeat at night. I'm in my thirties! Some of it was due to a thyroid issue, but my diet was TERRIBLE. I'm shocked at how complacent I am already now that I'm starting to feel better! I think I need to get some post-its and stick little reminders all over the kitchen - and maybe a picture of me in a size 12 dress and a Christmas hat on the fridge! Grin

Lovecat · 09/02/2014 00:36

Eva that's wonderful :)

I have a shedload of clothes in the 10-12 that I want to wear again, currently I'm a large 14 (ie in vanity sized clothing), so that's really good to know.

Gatorade my knees are feeling a lot better - they had started to get very painful around Christmas, so it's lovely to have them back again. I still get v. out of breath on stairs but that's because I'm hideously unfit. If it stops raining (hah!) I'll start running. Otherwise challenging DD to a Just Dance-off on the Wii will have to do...

Just about to go to bed, have been rubbish with water (on the go all day and had

ChesterDrawers · 09/02/2014 07:21

No loss today but no gain after two gins last night Grin

Had mini nightmare last night. We are out for lunch today so I diligently checked the menu online and made some great choices. Checked again last night and the menu has changed, with hardly any LC choices. Think I will have to go for roast dinner with gravy on the side and not eat yorkshires, potatoes, carrots etc. Gutted though, cos this makes me look fussy whereas my other choices were just fine Sad Luckily the friends we're out with are great and I'll have no probs telling them what I'm doing.

So today's food:

B: bacon, eggs, mushrooms, sausage
L: roast pork and crackling, veg, cheeseboard if others having dessert, two or three gins
D: not sure, maybe just BPC or some nibbles

With regard to dairy, I think I am going to keep it to a minimum but not stress too much if it's part of a meal a few times a week.
