Week 4 Low Carb Bootcamp - Keep on keeping on

Morning.

I see that some of us are struggling.

I see that there is a lot of cheating.

Hmm. I wonder if there is a connection Grin

Seriously folks, this is not a terribly forgiving WOE. The idea of Bootcamp Light was to give you a bit more flexibility, but not to send you spiralling into a chocolate and alcohol-fuelled frenzy!

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness or on your own personal Weight Tracker

Remember that weight loss may stop in weeks 3 and 4 - sometimes 5. It takes this long for your body to become keto adapted, i.e. to switch fully from carb-burning to fat-burning.

And if you're continually pushing up your daily carb intake, all you are doing is delaying this process

Hope you all have a good week.

Tonight for dinner I filled a roasting tin with sausages, tomatoes, mushrooms, shallots and broke some eggs on top, stuck it in the oven for 30 mins and it was delicious!!

I ate loads so not even tempted to snack. A win win situation all around Smile

Stuffed mushroom burger was good!

SteeleyeStan · 06/02/2014 20:40

I'm sorry you're feeling so crappy Calamity. :( I'm sure any WOE where you're not eating certain stuff can feel limiting. I can't really say anything else to that except with time it's just normal - just like I'm sure not eating meat wouldn't feel limiting to a long term vegetarian.

I couldn't face my dinner tonight. I cooked a beef and veggie stir fry, lots of chopping and fresh spices etc. and DH said it tasted fine, but I nibbled on a couple of bits of broccoli and shifted the food round my plate, making faces... No point in forcing it down, I guess.

So tired. I've been sorting through stuff and packed two boxes (might be moving in two weeks!), and in between I've dozed off three times! Better have an early night.

monkeyfacegrace · 06/02/2014 20:46

Thank you precious. That puts it in perspective. I just feel shit as I have a problem with wine and had been dry since the weekend

Ruprekt · 06/02/2014 20:48

Chorizo and kale was v nice. Very rich and flavoursome, glad I did an experimental portion, couldn't have fitted another mouthful in.

Daisy DS first bear is also a Snowy Smile. Wouldn't it be funny if one of his chickens was a Daisy?

daisychicken · 06/02/2014 21:14

Glad you liked it Snowie! My chicken was a Daisy hence the name!

SnowieBear · 06/02/2014 21:21

Well... I am Snowie (for real!), the bear is wee lovely polar bear and I bought it when I was still PG with DS, so it obviously became SnowieBear and afterwards, so did I on MN.

SayraT · 06/02/2014 21:25

I can't believe how quickly asparagus made my wee smell?! I had some at dinner (about 630pm) and just went for a wee and it stinks Grin

Does it really go through that quickly Shock

SarahBeenysBumblingApprentice · 06/02/2014 21:32

To everyone feeling a little frustrated with traditional dietary advice:

I've just been on the BMJ website as I was interested in looking at he reporting of the Swedish guidelines and some other stuff on sugar. Amongst other things if found, Gary Taubes wrote an article in April, "The science of obesity: what do we really know about what makes us fat?" (Gary Taubes being a US journalist who has been a keen and probably key proponent of LCHF diets).

I haven't read it all as I'm starting to go bog-eyed with tiredness but one of the rapid responses caught my eye; these are two quotes from it:

I very much enjoyed Gary Taubes’ recent essay exploring the historical precepts surrounding what many obesity specialists routinely observe in clinical pratice; that carbohydrates not fats are the root cause for obesity and metabolic dysfunction in the individual and indeed the population.

Coming from a background as a journalist rather than a clinician, Taubes has been able to comprehensively investigate this subject and thoroughly assess the evidence base from a novel, but entirely compelling perspective, suggesting that as a profession, we could be a little less stubborn in translating evidence into practice and start making inroads in the management of obesity.

Who said this? Only David W Haslam, Professor, Chair National Obesity Forum.

The tides are turning.

SarahBeenysBumblingApprentice · 06/02/2014 21:34

(The bits I didn't C+P were about ancient Greeks and Scots and it's too late for that kind of stuff for me!)

SnowieBear · 06/02/2014 21:52

Sayra asparagus is rather interesting, isn't it? Grin

SarahBeeny it is NEVER too late for an ancient Greek or two. Never! Especially if the come with a lovely mezze and top quality ouzo.

Lighthousekeeping · 06/02/2014 22:02

Are you all off bootcamp then ?

SnowieBear · 06/02/2014 22:04

Nope... just messing around.

Lighthousekeeping · 06/02/2014 22:09

You all seem to be having a lovely tone . Drinking one night, getting back on track the next. I'm envious. I just know if I fall off my regime that will be me as big as a bus agsin.

BIWI · 06/02/2014 22:14

Calamity

Hmmph. Have to be honest. Getting pissed off now.

Hmm. So it's only week 4. We've already established that you weren't following the rules initially, so you've only actually been Bootcamping for lesser period of time

*No loss for ages in fact 2lb heavier. Have been following LC rules properly. I love the food and I'm not hungry but ultimately I did start this to lose weight. Which I did at the beginning but tbh its starting to feel every bit as restrictive as any other diet albeit in a different way!!!! Earlier I decided not to take painkillers for a headache because I read that ibuprofen can stall weight loss on LC! That's a ridiculous way to carry on!^

You're not hungry. That's fabulous! It means you're in ketosis, which means you're burning fat. However, we are in the 3/4 week stage of adapting our bodies to burning fat rather than carbs. I have posted about this - and the fact that during this point you may not see any weight loss and, also, that it's possible that you may see some weight gain. You love the food. Hallelujah! How often would have said that if you were following a low calorie diet? And how come this WOE is suddenly restrictive? You might have had a headache originally because that was the carb flu. And yes, ibuprofen isn't great - but you could have had aspirin or paracetamol. And the carb flu should only have lasted for a few days.

And have you really been following the rules properly?

It's just becoming so much like hard work compared to the first couple of weeks. Am I eating enough fat...am I eating too many carbs...or maybe I'm not eating carbs...maybe it's water retention that is making me heavier??? But if I lose a pound that's fat of course...

How the actual fuck is it hard work if you follow the rules? There are ten, very simple and straightforward rules. The whole thing about Bootcamp is that it's designed to be really simple and straightforward. No weighing, no counting - just follow the rules. Are you really doing that? Honestly?

I dunno. Really getting hacked off with the whole thing

It's up to you. If you don't want to follow the rules, if you don't want to listen to what I've posted - up to you.

No, Lighthouse, not at all! I am on my fifth week of BC proper, the only cheeky stuff that has passed my lips is the odd glass of low alcohol sparkly... I'm being super good and utterly terrified of anything that may throw me off course.

I have even started to stress about how will I manage DS's birthday (March) and our Easter holiday abroad with my family in Spain. Oh God! There I was being all happy, flippant and nicely stuffed with chorizo and kale... must not stress, must not stress... baaaad for your weight... must not stress... Sad

Lighthousekeeping - please don't let yourself get distracted by other posters - I am really concerned about the amount of cheating/slacking that is going on.

You will be far, far, far better not to slack off. Honestly. You will be the one, in a few weeks time, feeling smug about your progress, whilst others will be moaning and complaining Grin

SnowieBear · 06/02/2014 22:29

no slacking or cheating here at Snowie Towers - 7 lbs down, thank you madam BIWI!

BIWI · 06/02/2014 22:30

Brilliant! And well done, snowie.
