Does low carbing affect your cycle?

I don't know if it's just coincidence but I'm perimenopausal I'm missing periods and am bloated like mad. Every time I low carb my period is back within days. I wonder why? Is anyone else like this? I'm not complaining btw!

I think mine is heavier than normal and my cycle length has changed from 34-36 days to 31-32.

Lack of PMT symptoms apart from incredibly sore breasts though.

I have PCOS and I was really irregular from the very start. I actually had no periods at all for over six years (IIRC) before I started LC. After a bit less than a year I suddenly got a cycle again, and it's been regular ever since. For the first time ever I'm also (at least occasionally) ovulating naturally. Big yay. :)

Unfortunatelly I feel quite crappy and PMSy and they're quite heavy for a few days every month.

Mine become more regular, less heavy and (touch wood) I don't seem to get that 'oh it's finished'/'no it's not' thing going on. Less cramps, less PMT. Just as much pre period hunger though! - but I can low carb eat my way through it OK. Sore boobs some months but was ever thus.

It's bound to - we are stabilising our blood sugars which affects your insulin levels and insulin is a hormone :)

I'm on the implant, haven't had a period for 1 yr, started this morning. Bit of a shock!

I'm on HRT and am now having my 2nd period in 3 wks that arrived with no warning I usually spot for a day or 2 before I start properly but woke up to find I'd started in the night Confused

IamNotLegend · 16/03/2014 20:30

I think I started early. I never keep track as I know a week before i'm due as I suffer excruciating period pain, except I didn't this month!!! No pain, no bloating and no feeling over emotional. Even if I wasn't losing weight low carbing has been a God send. Having said that I was still heavy but not as clotty. Blush

Yes, I spot terribly when low carbing. It never happens any other time.
