Ham egg and chips....without the chips.

I love a bit of ham egg and chips, and so do the rest of the family. But I want to loose some weight for summer so chips are off the menu. How would you accompany your ham, and poached egg while the rest of the family are tucking into their fried eggs and chips?

I'd probably just double up on eggs tbh. Maybe also have a small rocket salad with homemade dressing and parmesan.

Celeriac chips

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 11/03/2024 12:18

Parsnip chips

If you must have chips, then celeriac or swede chips. I think parsnips are carby.

Though TBH I'd just have more eggs, and loads of leafy greens (no 'small' salads!) with mayo.

Broccoli and cauliflower roast really well. Toss in oil and whatever herbs or seasoning you like, then roast in a hot oven for short 20mins.

Fried kale is also lovely. A wonderful mixture of crispy and crunchy.

If you're doing low carb, then some halloumi fries (I just cut into chunky fry shapes and dry fry it) could work.

WYorkshireRose · 11/03/2024 12:42

What's the issue with chips? Just do them in the oven/air fryer to cut down on oil.

Essie274 · 11/03/2024 12:45

Honestly, I'd just have the chips - just less of them! And add some greens to everyones plates if not already served.

Hoolahoophop · 11/03/2024 12:47

I like the idea of swede and courgette wedges @Westfacing . Also roasted cauli @Dilbertian

The trouble with chips @WYorkshireRose is that I suffer from lack of control with portions, and a heap of chips would not be good for me. Rather than a smaller portion of something. I need to replace it with a large portion of something else that is lower calorie! Just my psychology.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I'd turn my meal into a ham and egg omelette and would bulk it out with added veg in the omelette like mushrooms, peppers and a little bit of spring onion. That should be a more satisfying meal and still low carb.

Coming back to say sorry I didn't see this was posted in the low-carb board Grin Veggie 'chips' (carrot/parsnip/swede) might be better than my previous suggestion of just have some chips lol.

I used to eat a lot of sautéed tenderstem/purple sprouting broccoli when I was eating lower carb - made a nice side and feels fancier than regular broccoli imo

Low carb lunch - sausage and chips!

The chips are swede 😀 and the green blob is East End hot mango mint sauce

Spice up some cauliflower and roast it in the air fryer

Hoolahoophop · 26/03/2024 08:52

Your swede chips look good @Westfacing

In the end I did courgette, carrot, sweet potato and parsnip chipped, shaken in salt, pepper, olive oil and semolina in a high oven.

They came out more soft than crispy but very tasty.
I think I need to work on the recipe.
