Hope I can be forgiven for posting this on LPside but would appreciate any feedback. 2 lone mothers and nine children (!) want to leave Germany (on-going dilemma) to visit London for 3 days in August to do all the tourist things..travel, group tourist things seems viable but where do we stay that is cheap and safe...any ideas? Also is the underground daily travelcard the cheapest alternative for a group of 11? Thanks for any suggestions!

Try a family room at a londo youth hostel?

Four children per adult can travel with an adult on an oyster card as long as the adult pays their fare.

try look at flat rentals - will give you some space and make it cheaper in terms of buying breakfast etc.

Children under 11 don't pay on the tube or bus, and under 16s don't pay on the bus, but children over 11 need their own Oyster card which you can't get as a non-resident. Ask at the tube station, the staff know all the fares well and it is probably worth your while paying for pay as you go Oyster cards for the adults (£3 deposit) because cash fares are often double the Oyster fares. Never pay cash if you can avoid it. Try the tfl website for more info www.tfl.gov.uk.

again thanks, certainly good to look into oyster fares. Don't think flat rentals are going to be a cheap alternative though, couldn't find anything for a few days under 700 pounds so looks like Hollandpark FYH. Just been shocked by return fare prices for us all to travel from Stanstead to central London..perhaps a car rental would be a choice but for 11 of us?!

Have you thought about getting a easyjet bus from Stanstead? they are relatively cheap and can be booked in advance.

Enjoy your hols

get the bus from the airport not the train - book in advance national express .

dont get a car -you would need to pay congestion charge and parking !
