Dropped ds 6 for a play date at his friends dads house this am. Friend is 5.

Having dropped off, i pop to supermarket a stones throw away to get some bits. Upon leaving supermarket I run in to ds friends dad.

"Wheres ds" ? I question. " He's ok he's with my ds" They are playing on the playstation, I have locked them in.

I was and still am furious. I told friends dad that under no circumstances would I leave ds alone, let alone a child who was under my supervision.

Im upset as the dad is a close friend of mine and the children best friends. Ds has spent an awful amount of time there over the past year and feel alarmed that this may have been going on.

He is a single dad and we help each other out alot but this has upset me. What do people think?

i think it is totally unacceptable to leave a 6 & 5 year old locked in the house whilst going to the supermarket

you are uncomfortable with it , and rightly so and need to speak to him about it

5 & 6 year olds unsupervised cna get into terrible danger/trouble

harimo · 02/05/2010 17:17

I think 5 and 6YO is FAR too young to be left at home and, even worse, to be locked in.

I would be furious too.

TheCrackFox · 02/05/2010 17:27

Out of order. It wasn't his decision to make that your DS could be left alone.

chipmonkey · 02/05/2010 17:57

very irresponsible! Particularly as boys of that age can get up to all sorts of mischief when unsupervised!

nixnjj · 02/05/2010 21:26

This is just so wrong. I would ensure that all future playdates are at your house. I'm fairly sure this is ilegal.

Clary · 02/05/2010 21:32

Yes I agree this is not OK.

I personally wouldn't leave a 5 or 6yo alone; but even if I did I would ask a friend if it was OK to do the same with their child.

lollopyT · 03/05/2010 23:56

reading this made me feel sick - it is absolutley not ok! what an irresponsible man.

cestlavielife · 04/05/2010 09:55

not ok. if he needed stuff he should have asked you!

Niceguy2 · 04/05/2010 14:20

It's not actually illegal. There's no legal age for leaving children alone. However, if anything went wrong, he could have been charged with neglect.

I'm usually pretty laid back but even I wouldn't leave a couple of 5 year olds alone whilst I went shopping.

Crazy!
