Will I get funding if I do an MA?

I am thinking about doing a distance learning ma to enhance my career.
Does anyone know if I will get money off as a single parent?

Well, the college might have grants for people who find it difficult to afford fees (OU does) or your work might contribute if they agree it will enhance your job performance. I don't think single parenthood in itself is a criterion for getting funding but a low income might be.

i asked the same question when i was out of work as the job centre has funds available for training and education. at the time tho i wasnt a job seeker as such as i wasnt available for work or signing on. and as i was already qualified to do my normal job i couldnt get any help toward an OU degree course.

i think if you are out of work and on jobseekers then youll get the same help as anyone else if itll improve your chances of getting back to work. otherwise if youre working its up to you or your employer to sort it. dont see being a single parent makes much difference either way, would think its more income based.

The OU has a fund (Crowther fund?) for continuing students - i.e if you got your hons degree through the OU, they will help with the cost of your MA, though I don't know by how much. You also have to apply far in advance.
Sorry I can't be of more help.. But they are lovely, so if you do get funds from somewhere to do an MA, I would recommend the OU!

Can't help with your original question, but would agree that the OU are fab. I doing a science degree with them at the moment, and they couldn't be more helpful with regards to financial support.
