Last week a man gave me his phone number. I don't know why and it has been puzzling me.

Do people give out phone numbers just to be friendly?

We are both students, he has just started uni. He told me the number was incase I wanted to chat or "do something", whatever that means. Arrrgh. I have been single for far too long, I am confused.

I'd say, if you fancy him or a night out call him and go out! [he likes you!]

He fancies you. And he's either a refreshingly open-minded New Man type who is keen on egalitarian relationships where the woman is just as entitled to make a move as the man is, or possibly he's a bit passive and if you date him you're going to have to do all the work.
Do you fancy him? If so, call him up and ask him to come and see a film/have lunch with you or something. If not, lose the number.

I'd say he's trying to arrange a date

Heated · 17/11/2009 22:43

He's interested and putting out 'feelers' - depends on how many others he's doing it to

beansmum · 17/11/2009 22:43

really though? I thought maybe he was just trying to make friends since he is new at uni. hmmm.

I wouldn't want to go out with him. I don't think so anyway. He is nice, but not really my type. Although maybe I should stop being fussy, I haven't had a date in 6 years.

Maybe so but he also l-i-k-e-s you. Have him as a friend and just enjoy the company.

Met dh at uni, he was tall, lean and blond (still is 2 out the 3) and not my physical type at all.

What uni course are you doing?

Men almost never just want to 'make friends' with a woman and giving out his number is definitely a sign of interest imo.
