things i hate being about a single mum part... unblocking the toilet

what joy! first thing this morning, i unblocked our toilet with a coat hanger. because there is no-one else to do it, and i cant afford to call anyone in. urgghhh

I did that when I was married.

Things I hate so far (only been a week):

Not being able to open hot-water bottles (except I simply asked the nice-looking single Dad two doors down to do it for me );
Having to go up into the loft myself (I did the door wrong and brought it crashing down into my eye);
How everyone puts their head on one side when they ask, "How are you?" when actually I feel happier than I ever felt when married;
Worrying about money.

Otherwise, it's awesome!

Nah, feminism works both ways in this house and whoever finds a blocked toilet unblocks it.

I'm not a lone parent but I opened this thread because it was the very first thread to catch my eye when I sat down at my computer fresh from unblocking a particularly shitty loo not 3 minutes ago.

i think my point was not the toilet itself, but not having any choice.

I hate being a single mum because...? the blardy dishwasher has just blown up and fused the whole house with it! I am now fiddling with fuses pretending I know what I'm doing..! because I can't afford to call in an electrician.

Will now have to go and grab one of the neighbours husbands - think of me...

I really hate putting the bins out! Wednesday nights are the only time I miss my ExH- when I'm dragging a weeks worth of stinky, wet bin bags through the house to put out for the bin men!

two days into being a single mum with a 6 month old baby, my DD developed chronic vomit and dioreah - I knew from that moment on at 2 am scrubbing vom and poo off the floor that I could cope.

DD and I are doing just fine

OWOFB - wouldn't want to bring you down. there are tough, shitty (sometimes literally) bits - but i wouldnt be with my ex for anything. and dd is 6 now and amazing and we are really, really happy...

Oh yeah, when DS is up all night poorly and the morning comes, I realise that we are going to be ok!

Flat pack furniture has posed a problem now and again but I get there in the end.

I remember I bought DS a trike for his first birthday (had been seperated about a month).
I sobbed for hours over this bloody trike, it came in about a million pieces. It might have taken me until 2am to make it but it was at that point I realised I was going to be ok. Every time I look at the trike it makes me smile.

I am a full time student, I work freelance as a photographer. My daughter is nearly 3 and am battling violent ex P for his rights to no access.

Hate DIY, decorating, heavy gardening, not having a break ever, lack of money, no one to get rid of spiders and other creepy crawlies, no one to share troubles of the day etc but XP is an olympic twat, so I'll have to cope with these and other things as and when they arise.

when you do finally get a babysitter.... you HAVE to get up with toddler dc at 5am... no matter how late you came in... even if it means you survive the day on 1 hr sleep.....

... but its worth it for that rare odd night out you manage to get.
and of course you persuade said toddler to go for an afternoon nap

Sounds worring citronella Hope it worked out OK.

In my case it is having to deal with the cats deadthings--presents on the back doorstep in the morning.

Oh and trying to check my own hair for headlice...don't think I could ever ask a friend to undertake that task for me!!

At least now that we are single we don't have to argue about who does what chores. And there is no resentment if our partners aren't pulling their wieght. We are also learning valuable life skills.

Having said that I hated having to deal with the MASSIVE spider in my bedroom on my own.

I had the trike in a million pieces too! From sodding ebay. I'm still not sure why I have two spare screws! I like doing flatpack now! i feel independant.

DD and I have had some sort of viral gastroenteritis this week. She spent 2 days sick, now I am vomiting and dizzy and struggling. There is no one else to make her food or keep on top of the house or get up with her at 6am or give me a chance to get better. She is back at nursery today thank goodness.
