So what do I tell my dd when she asks why she hasn't seen Daddy???

Background: dd aged 2.8, XP that is on-again-off-again with contact, I do everything I can to facilitate it.

It's been 4 weeks.
It's 3 weeks til he says he is free enough to have her again (abroad with new GF at present).
DD finally asked tonight, "when am I going to see Daddy again? Why can't I see him soon?"
A lot of words for such a little one. I had got out of these questions before, because she was not so eloquent to voice them. I want them to have a good relationship. I am also angry and tired.

What do I say to her? My heart breaks for her, I love her so much.

just tell her the truth, in a kind child friendly way.... that daddys abroad just now and he will see her when he gets back......

yes the truth - "daddy's busy right now" "daddy's gone on holiday" .

or have her leave a voice message on his phone asking him directly.

smooth it over with her

but he needs a serious kick up his backside. believe me,its not good for kids this wishy washy behaviour with contact. fast forward to when she's at school. she'll be full of questions then.

She was very sad and angry when I said daddy was on holiday and would see her soon. Poor little thing (I know other little ones deal with worse). I don't want to lie to her but it makes me more tempted to just distract.
