Anyone a dinner lady ??

I always said I wouldn't be a dinner lady, mainly because it was all people seemed to think I was good enough for.

Anyway, there is a vacancy at a local school. It wouldn't get me off benefits as I'd not earn enough, but it would get me out of the house every day, and be useful in making my cv look like I can actually be bothered to get off my arse.

The only downsides I can see at the mo is that it is smack in the middle of each day and so any courses or anything I did would have to be arranged around it but this might be workable.

So, has anyone here done it ??

Sorry I don't but it would get you in the know a bit with what other opportunities come up at the school such as TA posts etc

I was a dinner lady (posh name Midday Meals Supervisor!) for a year and also did extra voluntary hours as and when I could. I never really told anyone what I was because some people do look down on you (even my sister!)

This lead to me being offered a Special Needs Teaching Assistant position, which I love,... and I have been put forward to do my NVQ Level 2... all paid for! This all fits in perfectly being a single parent, working school hours, getting all the holidays off and just being there for my children (not having to rely on others), and also my children get to see me at school too as I work at theirs! The pay isn't brilliant, but the rewards far outweigh that if you end up enjoying what you do! I now do enough hours to claim my WTC too which is a bonus.

Go for it... you may enjoy it and end up getting more work purely from starting on rung one of the ladder!... and like you said the main thing is you are showing other employers that you are willing to work!

Unfortunatly when I rang up they said I was too late, the closing date was Friday. I hadn't noticed.

They have taken my name though and said they will send me a form when they next have vacancies.

Ive just swapped from being a school kitchen assistant to being a school midday supervisor. I really enjoy it and manage to fit in what i have to do and where i go around my hours. Having said that my son is away at residential school all week so it is easier for me!

Not sure where you are but on my local Council's website, they have a list of job vacancies for school support staff.... might be worth having a look at your local council's site to keep an eye on any other vacancies coming up in all your local schools
