I was thinking of trying to get away this summer. But it has to be really cheap - and I would want to be pretty sure it would be good, because it will be the only trip for a while. I have tried a week away just me and dd before, but it didnt work because she wanted me to swim and build barbie sandcastles all the time. And I wanted to spend a bit of time relaxing. Conclusion - relaxing beach hols out the question (cant afford mark warner etc).

Also - went away with friends before, but found going with a couple and kids means I upset the equilibrium somewhat. And I ended up babysitting so they could go out.

I guess I was thinking a pootling around somewhere interesting in europe (inc uk), with some swimming, and some looking a stuff, and nice food and wine and reading in the evening for me would do the trick. But I'd happily take advice/suggestions. Oh - and I have a two bed flat in zone 2 (london) so I could swap, but I've never done it before and I'm a tad nervous.

What/where does everyone else do/go? All advice gratefully received.

How about centre parcs?
Loads to do together for you and DD but also a spa and kids club (for time apart).

How about camping? That's what DS and I do.

brightwell · 07/05/2009 20:35

Another vote for camping...that's what I do with my dc. They make friends with other children and only come back when they are hungry.

Sounds ideal! My DS is only 1 so the idea of camping does not appeal yet but sure it's something we'll try in the future.

We are lucky enough to be going away with my family. Staying in a huge villa. Sure it's going to be hard work with a 1 year old though!

What about Haven/Butlinsy type places or trying to ge Sun holiday? I take my kids camping in Italy and they have great fun making new friends and playing with them during the day - I actualy got a to read abook on the beach while they played with new friends beside me!! then there are things to do in the evenings if you want or go back to your apt/mobile and drink wine!

Another vote for camping, I just got back from a weekend at a haven camp with ds who is only just 2 and he loved it, I even managed to put the tent up by myself! Or you can stay in a caravan, yes there was alot of swimming and going to the park but I also got to relax, whilst he played with the other kids and even managed a few drinks in the club in the evening whilst he watched the entertainment. Ive booked my next trip already!

Try singlewithkids.com, I've just booked the shell island holiday weekend which is very cheap indeed but they have all sorts of other holidasys.

Good luck : )

I'm on that too, it's .co.uk rather than .com

It's a huge trip and I can't wait. They have lots of other hols too on the site civilfawlty, worth a peep
