Do girls send first messages on dating sites?

I joined a dating site a few days ago. Not had any messages sad I don't think I'm THAT hidious!! So I'm considering contacting a few myself but I'm scared of rejection and of looking desperate! Do girls send first messages on these sites? if so, what do I put to stop myself looking like a bunny boiler?

I have done in the past, to be honest I think I have always made the first move but I am single so maybe not best person to advise on how to conquer the world of dating sites?!

I'm on match, it has a thing where you can wink at them then they either wink back to indicate that they are interested , or just email directly. Most seem to just email rather than wink back. Has yours got that? Its fine to email first though, I have done it when I think there is something easy to say, for example if their profile has something I can mention. A couple of sentences is enough. No harm done if they don't reply!

actually, the only ones where i have actually gone on to meet them is there ones where i've contacted them

make sure you add a question so they have to reply. if you just send a one liner or comment on their profile they probably dont reply. specially if you dont have a photo

I sent a message to a chap on match in December, because his profile really made me laugh... we met up, got on like a house on fire and are potty about one another a few months on - he'd probably never have contacted me, so do it I say! Don't take it personally if people don't reply though, online dating is a very transient, strange new world. Enjoy it and good luck!

I've contacted 2 people and not had replies but this may be because my photo isn't on display, guess you just gotta take the lack of response with a pinch of salt!
